All You Need is Faith

Dear Reader,
Spring has arrived bringing the promise of flowers and songbirds. And as I watch the beautiful blooms appear, my heart fills with a sense of faith that this will be a bountiful year.
Faith is a powerful and complicated concept, and it is the focus of this month's article. Please enjoy.
And, remember that I'm here to answer your questions. Please send your questions and comments to Teri at info@ArtofConsciousCreation.com.
Many blessings,
Teri
All You Need is Faith
"Come on! Let's jump," my best friend smiled at me. She had finally coaxed me into taking skydiving lessons with her, and now here I was several thousand feet off of the ground, a parachute strapped to my back.
"Don't worry. It's easy. All you need is faith."
I watched as she leaped away from the plane and disappeared.
Gripping the bars on either side of the open door, I nervously waited for my opportunity to follow. I calmed myself by repeating, "You can do this. Just take a deep breath and relax. Remember, all you need is faith" Then, at the instructor's signal, I leaped out after her.
Faith. It's everywhere. It's not just a word, or an idea, or something we find in church. Faith is the foundation on which every success, every accomplishment, and every step forward is taken. It's not money that makes the world go around, it's faith.
Faith is a catalyst. It lies behind everything we create and everything we do. Our lives would be chaotic without faith. To quote Deepak Chopra from his book Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, "The people who succeed best at any endeavor are generally following a pattern of handling their desires without undue struggle with their environment-they are in the flow
." I wonder if he meant to say that they are in the flow of faith? When faith fills your life, things seem to run smoothly and come to you easily and effortlessly. Faith is a wonderful thing to have. But what actually is faith? Where do we find it? How does it grow? And, how do we maintain it? I started asking these questions one morning many years ago. It was the morning that defined the direction of my life.
"You mean I can walk on water?"
Normally squirmy and restless, like any child confined for an hour on a hard church bench, that particular Sunday I sat still, unusually quiet. I was transfixed by what I was hearing. The preacher was describing the amazing power of faith. Acting as though sharing a wonderful secret with us, he joyously declared, "All of the miracles performed by Jesus you can do too. All you need is enough faith." I was ecstatic. A bright-eyed seven-year-old with thick, bouncy curls of red hair, I ran up to him after the sermon. Ignoring the adults who were patiently waiting, I worked my way to the front of the crowd. All of the energy that I had contained so well during the service came bursting out. "You mean I can walk on water?" I asked. The preacher smiled and bending down to look me in the eyes answered, "With enough faith you can do whatever you want." At that moment my life mission became clear. I had to understand faith.
What actually is faith?
Faith can be defined as a sensation of acceptance and inner peace-a feeling that all is right with the world. It can be thought of as a belief, a sense of confidence, a feeling of trust, or a deep conviction about something. In the strictest terms, however, faith is more than just a belief; it's uncompromised belief. It's more than just trust; it's total trust. Faith is also more than confidence; it's unwavering confidence. And, it's is more than simple conviction; it's absolute, undeniable conviction.
Faith can be, and is, defined in many different ways. Personally, I like to define it as the building block of creation. I see it as the force that bridges the gap between unlimited creative potential and the physical manifestation of that potential. To me faith is what makes all things possible.
Faith is the energy that causes the seed of a hope to gain enough strength to become a desire. Faith then builds an aura of excitement around the desire, urging it to expand into an impulse. Faith infuses the impulse with so much inspiration that it soon sprouts the roots of urgency. Next, faith deepens the roots of urgency until they form into a mandate for physical manifestation. And finally, faith nurtures the mandate with patience until it has the necessary time needed to flower into a perfect physical form. Without faith, no potential would ever stand a chance of becoming a reality.
Where Do I Find Faith?
We usually think of faith in conjunction with religion or spirituality. But, faith is not a term regulated strictly to these areas of life. Faith is in every area of life. Think about it. You have faith that the sun will come up tomorrow morning, that night will follow day, and that the cycle of the seasons will continue. Most people have faith that their best friend will listen when they need a shoulder on which to cry. Or, that their bride or bride groom will always love them. You have faith that apart from some major catastrophe, the walls of your home will remain standing and that the roof will keep the rain from drenching you. If you really think about it, you'll find that faith is the underlying sensation of every experience in your life.
Generally faith is thought of in positive terms, but we can encounter negative faith as well. For instance, in most cases, you experience faith that your car will start when you turn the key in the ignition and fill the tank with gas. However, if your car has been acting up, you may find that you carry some faith that it won't start and that you'll be stranded. The interesting thing about faith is this, whatever you have complete faith in, will manifest. And it doesn't matter if that thing is positive or negative, abstract or concrete.
Faith can be thought of as the ultimate "Yes" man. If you're ill and you have complete faith that the doctors and the prescribed medication, or the alternative treatments will heal you, faith will say "yes" and you will be healed. If you have faith that nothing can heal you, faith will say "yes" and you won't be healed. Faith does not discriminate. It says "yes" to all of your desires.
How does faith grow?
Both our outer being and our inner being experience faith. Faith is a function of psychology as well as spirituality. From the human, psychological perspective faith is built from repeated sensory experiences. Our human mind learns to have faith in something because our senses of sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing always repeat the same behavior when confronted with the same input. For example, every morning you smell the coffee, you hear the buzzer signaling the end of the preparation cycle and you believe-you develop faith-that the coffee is ready to drink.
Faith formed from the spiritual perspective, however, is somewhat different. Spiritual faith is a deep internal "knowing" that evolves from the acceptance of certain beliefs and ideals. Where as, human faith is triggered by external stimulus, spiritual faith takes place through an inward journey to Source. Spiritual faith then grows through the continued experiencing of your spirit. The spiritual faith building process is an encounter with your entire being and the relationship you form with yourself because of this encounter.
Increasing and maintaining faith.
Increasing and maintaining outer focused human psychological faith is a fairly simple process. It's a form of habit building and is accomplished by immersing the mind and the body in a desired and repeated thought, action or behavior. For instance, imagine that you wish to increase the level of your faith in your ability to introduce yourself to strangers. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this. One way is to attend mixers, networking groups, social gatherings, or anyplace where people congregate, and force yourself to talk. With each successful encounter, you will feel more and more comfortable and will eventually develop complete faith in your ability to talk to strangers. Another way would be to imagine yourself easily and comfortably talking with strangers. This type of autosuggestion, if repeated long enough and with enough conviction, will also increase your level of faith. Building psychological faith is similar to building your self-confidence through repeated experiences.
Spiritual faith is increased and maintained through a process of internal reconnection. Building Spiritual faith necessitates focusing the mind and the being inward, and going ever more deeply into Source. Several moments of daily prayer or meditation will help you to accomplish this.
Learning to develop and increase your level of faith will change your life. It's not more money, or love, or success that we need in our lives. It's more faith. When our lives are centered in faith, we are in the flow.
Note: This article is just meant to convey a general concept of faith. There are many dimensions and depths to faith. And there are few true masters. Generally, those beings who have truly mastered faith have had religions built up around them. They were not masters of religion, but masters of faith and we worship their attainment of uncompromised faith.
I believe that it's our purpose in life to try to master faith. Most of us have some understanding of it. Those areas in our lives in which things seem to flow are the areas in which our faith is strongest. But whether we are, or are not conscious of it, we are always testing ourselves and seeking to gain more faith. I applaud all those brave souls who fight a terminal illness. Some have miraculous recoveries, others don't, but each of them in their own way is furthering their understanding of faith. And, each one who beats the odds in even the smallest way, like outliving their prognosis for any length of time is conquering fear and gaining faith. They are heroes and master's in training. And, for those of you who believe in reincarnation, the next life will be much easier.
Patrick, you're a hero and a miracle!!!!
