In Practice: How to Create a Successful Holistic Practice from Start to Success!

StarGates and Mentors
by Shaun Brown
Dear Ones:

The beginning of this read will be devoted to explaining a physics lesson. Youwill also discover the reasons for entering your StarGate, the portal of the mind where all of the answers are. Also this will be the beginning of expounding on the importance of Self-Care, and your need for Mentors, those wonderful Angels on Earth.

Entering the StarGate

In order to understand our place and Power in the Universe I think it is important to try to explain what Einstein saw and brought to the world. He analyzed the four dimensions that the majority of us live in, by explaining his theory of relativity. This of course is the short and sweet version as it was given to me.

I know that we all experience separateness and mental confusion regarding our questions of who we are and what we are supposed to be doing. Many others and I are also discovering that once we become more disciplined in meditation and prayer our answers come from within our own hearts. Letting the Universe bring us to wholeness is what most of us have been searching for.

The StarGate, the portal to all information, can be entered through meditation and prayer. Let me explain how this works. Lets start off with a simple little physics lesson. For all of you non-math people, don't freeze up this will be painless and fun! Here we go!

Fourth dimension: Time regarded as a coordinate dimension and required by relativity theory, along with three spatial dimensions, to specify completely the location of any event. Dictionary.com

Coordinate: Any of a set of two or more numbers used to determine the position of a point, line, curve, or plane in a space of a given dimension with respect to a system of lines or other fixed references. Dictionary.com

There is the first dimension, which is length; the second is width; the third dimension is depth and the fourth dimension is Time, or animation, the Life Force. The first three dimensions plus Time are all required to specify the location of any event. Without time the other three dimensions can't be animated: to give life to. So we must be influenced on some level by the fourth dimension-Time.

Einstein's theory of relativity: E=Mc2 states if you can reach and pass the speed of light Time stands still. It is my understanding that this event also contains the past, present and future all at once.

Saints and Sages of all religions have documented the experience of being in the past, present and future all at once. Some Eastern philosophies call this state of being "tat," meaning "that" all dimensions merging at once. Nirvana-the speed of Light.

If you are working toward balancing your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual coordinates you will discover your own fixed reference to the StarGate. A StarGate is an ancient door, when passed through by a portal-of-the-mind, provides a means to step into an expanded mind-set capable of connecting a massive assortment of information and offering keys to your own answers about your own personal past, present, and future.

Why is she bringing this up you might wonder? In trying to explain quantum physics in one easy lesson it is important that you really understand that when you take care of your body, learn how to clear your mind in meditation, work on emotional issues that keep you stuck, and seek Guidance from The Force, you will have all of the answers that you need.

If you are engaging in Self-Care you are self-contained. Look at the possibility that you don't need to pay someone to heal you BUT you can pay a trusted holistic therapist to hold Sacred Space in whatever capacity their craft entails. In this manner you can look at what you need to change and heal yourself. The Master Jesus was very clear about the matter of healing, "Physician Heal Thyself." He only touched those who were willing to be healed. All you need to do is live in these four dimensions and you will have all of your answers. Trust me, I am not there yet, BUT I have had glimpses enough to have totally re-designed my entire belief system based on this paradigm!

It's all about you. We are already whole and perfect and come from a perfect Source. So let's get to the place where we can start recognizing the filters of lack and separation and replace that with care for the Self. There are four essential food groups: Spiritual, Emotional, Mental and Physical. These are the most important areas you will be educated in because you are the most important thing in this whole equation. Who can give to others what they don't have?

Jesus, a Master of the four essential food groups, once taught a very simple but not easy marketing slogan. He said, "Know Thyself." Hmmm. There is not one major religion or Spiritual practice that doesn't have that basic bottom line of "Know Thyself." So what do you think? Now that you understand Einstein's' theory of relativity let's get relevant!

Self-Care is probably the least addressed area in a practitioner's education and lifestyle, but definitely the most important. Time after time, I see therapists working constantly with others. Day after day, they take care of their clients' needs. They go about the routine of building their holistic practice, without the slightest concern for their own personal well being. Most of them do not realize they are not taking care of the most important person in their lives, themselves. If you can't care for yourself it is impossible to care for others.

If you have not created a plan designed to keep you healthy, both inside and out, no one can do this for you. When it comes to clients and your practice, if you are not there for you, then you cannot be there for them. To be totally "present" in a client's healing process is what it is all about. This is why they come to see you. They need to see what center feels like. If your focus is scattered elsewhere, with needs that keep you distracted, then the job you are getting paid to do will be ordinary.

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the "extra." The intent is to be "present," as an athlete is in competition, present to perform a well-defined task. The client will greatly benefit from this attitude of honor. That's the Power of who you are, without being anything else.

The next column will speak specifically about Self-Care but become familiar with the foundation of the holistic therapist. Again, these are the four food groups:
c Spiritual c Mental c Physical c Emotional

The holistic therapist must integrate all of these categories in order to maintain a healthy energy level and not feel drained at the end of the day. Energetic balance enables you to keep an even keel. At least have the intention to start integrating these into your life. This is a life-long process. You might have a better handle on some of the groups. Others may be out of balance. The ones most out of balance are probably the toughest ones for you to change and the ones to get going on right away. The most difficult one for me is Emotional. I will continue to be in therapy counseling and embrace my shadow sides until I am only light. Ha! Maybe not in this lifetime. However, I do believe that I can only be present in someone else's life when I can be present in my own.

Sometimes you will find yourself working with clients that are "needy." You will feel "drained" after being with them. They are needy because they perceive themselves as "Powerless." I call them sucky, needy, "vampires." Their belief system requires that they must pull energy from others, instead of becoming disciplined and obtaining their own connection with a Higher Power. Generally, the therapist will not be presented with on-going vampire cases. Most people just want help getting into the boat and on to the other side of the river. If the "vampire" persists and is unable to make the leap into the boat, do not reschedule them.

This pathological behavior stems from a lack of connection with the life force. Symptoms are: the client is always late or is a no-show, is always in a crisis, saves up large groupings of crises and draining stories to dump on you all at once; and fails to move forward when the therapist tries to assist in the healing process. The therapist will always feel a loss of energy. The sucky, needy "vampire" will be discussed in great detail in a later column.

There is a solution, and as therapists not only are we getting in balance, but the clients start following suit, or they drop off. We have been gifted on this planet with many paths to connection. The therapist and the client can learn, by choice, to seek Inner Strength in a myriad of ways. We can each obtain our own Inner Power, and not feel the need to prey upon others. All it takes is Intention.

Meditations, yoga, and Tai Chi are some forms of breath discipline and ways to connect with Spirit. Remember we are connecting so we don't carry the world by ourselves. Walking in Nature is another. If you are using any of these techniques, and they are working, point these in the direction of the client, "if" the client asks you how you stay so centered. They will integrate them into their own life or not.

I teach meditation to interested students or clients. I have found that a quiet morning habit of simple meditation, (evening possibly too), has given me the experience of ongoing Inner Peace and a place to go for Sanctuary.

There are millions of people waiting and wanting to move forward that need your time and as you become more and more intentional about balancing your four food groups you will attract healthier clients.

MENTORS

In my opinion, until you have spent some time discovering your StarGate, you need outside coaching. Having a Mentor is absolutely essential to your health and well-being. A Mentor is someone who will tell you his or her Truth. They have acquired a lot of practical knowledge by experience, and can lead you out of the deep dark forest, when you are lost. Sometimes we get so deep into the forest, before we ask for help, we then realize that we aren't going to be helicoptered out. Choose a Mentor that has what you want. Ask yourself, "Do they walk their talk, or do they talk in rings of smoke?"

I highly suggest finding a Spiritual Mentor, someone who has been there before you. This is someone to bounce things off of instead of always trying to figure out the challenges alone. They will make suggestions only, not tell you how to do things. For example, it is suggested, when jumping out of a plane, you carry a parachute.

Mentors share their wisdom freely. There is no charge. Usually the agreement is made that when you have learned from the Mentor, you must become one too and pass it on. I have had the experience of exchanging talents with the ones I have Mentored and with my Mentor also. That's just a bonus! Information can flow in both directions. There is nothing wrong with buying your Mentor a gift or lunch to show your appreciation every once in awhile.

To find a Mentor you must ask for one, and listen, and that person will appear. You know the old saying, "When the student is ready the Teacher will appear." The relationship may last a few months or a lifetime depending on the need and circumstances.

Once you find that special person ask them officially if they would be willing to work with you. Come in the front door. A Mentor is not a babysitter, and if you find yourself not taking specific suggestions in a timely manner your agreement with each other is over. Do not waste someone's precious time. You either resonate with someone or you don't. A Mentor is not a token figurehead, because "everyone has to have one."

When you become a Mentor you will also not accept someone into your life to guide unless they are on fire. If you are not discerning about whom you choose to work with, you will find yourself wasting time, when there are plenty of people in line waiting for your guidance that will truly take your suggestions to heart. If someone wants me to work with them and he or she are not on fire, I will charge by the hour for consultation. Please make sure to honor your Mentor; do not take that person for granted.

A Mentor can help speed up the process of letting go of things that no longer serve you. Once your "Temple" is fairly clean from processing and dropping a lot of the baggage give yourself a pat on the back. Schedule time at a spa. Buy yourself flowers or a new power tool. Have a party, schedule time with special friends to celebrate Life! This is hard work.

The effective therapist has to be seasoned enough to release most of their baggage and move to the other side. By the way, this process is never ending for us. The depth and weight of a person that has worked on and released their "stuff" speaks without talking. As far as the therapist/client relationship, significant healing of the therapist has to have occurred or the client will not feel safe. S/he might feel judged, and the original reason for the client being there to facilitate their healing, will not take place.

Because most of my journey has been, by choice on some level, a long road of hard knocks, I can relate to most of my clients. They are then relaxed and able to share and process what they came for. My job is merely to be an observer of their ability to heal themselves, because they know you relate to what they are saying. Even though my craft is bodywork therapy it is just an avenue. I could sit across from a client and not even touch them for their healing to take place.

The client is really with you because of your ability to hold sacred space. I have heard some pretty wild things that were shared with me by my clients, and the most important thing when hearing something shocking is not to blink! You need to be open to all thoughts and perceptions of the clients. Crossing the line would be when a client talks about harming themselves or others. It is against the law not to report that kind of behavior to the authorities.

Sometimes a client will move on, you have done your job, vibrations change, people grow with you or not. It is OK for the client to choose to move on from the therapy you offer, or choose to have you continue as maintenance provider on a consistent basis. Sometimes we don't always know why people come and go; it isn't always about us. I used to think it was. Bless them, and thank them for their Patronage. Iyanla Van Zant states that, "People are in your life for a reason; a season; or forever."

Questions for your eyes-only:

Do you have a therapist or Mentor or someone to share your fragile side with or talk to about fears and demons?

How often do you make yourself accountable to them?

If you are ready to get rid of old behaviors and belief systems, what would that look like?

Column six, Self-Care, is dedicated to educating you in depth about the four essential food groups that anyone working with others must consider and embrace: Spiritual, Mental, Physical, and Emotional well-being.

Maybe you have some thoughts and ideas that you would like to share with me? I am always open to learning new things. Please feel free to email me at shaun@BeWellPublications.com
