Zi Wei Dou Shu
and the
Laci Peterson Murders

by Barbara Finch
In a previous article I gave an introduction on Zi Wei Dou Shu Chinese astrology. In this column I will show you a little of what can be seen in a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart using Scott and Laci Peterson's charts.

A Zi Wei Dou Shu chart has 12 palaces, one for each important aspect in one's life. The chart shape looks somewhat like a type of Vedic astrology chart, with 12 boxes arranged in a rectangle around the page. The 12 Palaces are: Ming (basic personality), Parents, Karma (emotions), Property, Career, Friends, Travel, Health, Money, Children, Spouse and Siblings.

The 14 Major Stars

There are 14 Major Stars in Zi Wei Dou Shu. Each of the major stars has its own unique character and personality.

1. Zi Wei - The Emperor

Zi Wei is the emperor and likes to give orders, not take them. Zi Wei can be somewhat arrogant and prone to flattery. As long as it is treated with great respect and adulation, and placed favorably in your chart, Zi Wei is the beneficent king. Placed adversely, it can be quite lonely and even more imperious.

2. Tian Ji - Heavenly Machine

Tian Ji indicates someone who is very smart and active, and who learns quickly. It is good at mediation and negotiation. However, it is a somewhat unstable star, which can cause problems if it is located in your Spouse palace.

3. Tai Yang - The Sun

Like the Sun, Tai Yang is masculine and strong. It can indicate your ability to make a living and obtain fame, but can also be too blunt and even harsh.

4. Wu Qu - The Army General

Wu Qu is the workaholic army general. Wu Qu can bring you a successful and distinguished career. But it is can also be tough on other people because it does not negotiate, thus making the person lonely.

5. Tian Tong - The Relaxed Lover of Life

Tian Tong loves all of the good things in life - art, leisure, spirituality, music, and good food. Tian Tong doesn't like to work very hard and is a romantic. This star has a good heart and is very sensitive, so its feelings can be easily hurt.

6. Lian Zhen - The Politician

Lian Zhen is the politician star and associated with "peach blossoms" or romance. It is competitive, loves to win, and is attractive to the opposite sex. As you can imagine, like a politician, Lian Zhen can be slick and influenced by the wrong people. Lian Zhen can make you popular with its friendly and humorous personality, but when poorly aspected can indicate a problem with drinking, gambling or fidelity.

7. Tian Fu - The Emperor's Treasurer

As Tian Fu's English translation suggests, this star represents money and property, and can bring great wealth and power. Tian Fu generally thinks like a company president or CEO - it can look far into the future to strategize. Tian Fu well aspected is a competent, prudent financial manager. Poorly aspected, Tian Fu indicates a person who will do anything to achieve his/her goal, even embezzle or steal.

8. Tai Yin - The Moon

Tai Yin is the Moon. It symbolizes femininity, spirituality, the arts, and the mysterious. It is gentle and refined, and can indicate if someone is physically very attractive. Tai Yin does not have its own light, as does the Sun, so it can be easily influenced by others.

9. Tan Lang - The Hungry Wolf

Tan Lang is the hungry wolf - it wants everything yesterday! Like Tian Tong, Tan Long loves the good life - learning, romance, metaphysics, etc. But Tan Lang has a drive, a hunger, a craving to get what it wants, and it will not stop until it gets it. This star can be a very helpful motivator as it is fearless and determined. But without clear and sound guidance, Tan Lang can become greedy, out of control and ruthless.

10. Ju Men - The Huge Door or "Big Mouth"

As you might imagine, Ju Men has to do with the mouth - your speech, eloquence and communication skills. However, since the "door" is big, Ju Men can easily get itself into trouble via its mouth. If you have Ju Men in your Ming you can often find yourself involved in poor communication with loved ones, gossip and scandals.

11. Tian Xiang - The Emperor's Minister

Tian Xiang is the follower, the person who prefers to stay out of the spotlight and work quietly. Its passivity keeps it from being an entrepreneur, but allows it to take orders and work at tedious tasks.

12. Tian Liang - Longevity

Tian Liang loves to help people, and can indicate someone who is a religious leader or in public service (but in the limelight). As longevity suggests, it has to do with a long life and getting through difficult times. However, because Tian Liang can turn misfortune into good, it requires you to go through the bad first before you can receive the good.

13. Qi Sha - The Risk Taker

Qi Sha is aggressive and loves to take risks! Qi Sha is very stubborn and wants to do what it wants to do. Qi Sha's irrepressible nature can bring unhappiness and isolation because it is so strong and does not like being regulated or controlled. This star needs careful guidance to help the person understand his/her nature more easily in order to get along with others and achieve success.

14. Po Jun - The Resistance Breaker

Po Jun is another strong character similar to Qi Sha. But while Qi Sha's nature is to stir things up, Po Jun's is to shatter and breaks things. All must be torn down whether for good or bad. Guided properly, the person can learn to create a new, better structure. Po Jun is also not easy to get along with because of its tough, aggressive and suspicious personality.

The Murders

A very good-looking couple, Laci and Scott Peterson met as students at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. They were married on August 9, 1997, finished college and moved to Modesto, Laci's hometown. Scott was a fertilizer salesman and Laci a substitute teacher until she became pregnant in the spring of 2002. They found out they were expecting a boy and named him Conner. Laci had long looked forward to having children and was overjoyed.

Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she mysteriously disappeared between December 23 and the morning of December 24, 2002. Scott claimed he left his very pregnant wife alone on Christmas Eve for a fishing trip to a Berkeley marina. There was no direct evidence of a crime but the police suspected Scott immediately and put him under surveillance. Scott's demeanor was very odd for a supposedly distraught husband whose wife and unborn child are missing. He avoided the spotlight instead of embracing it in the hopes of finding Laci and Conner, and he often spoke of them in the past tense. Scott approached two realtors about selling their home fully furnished within just one month of Laci's disappearance. He also traded in Laci's SUV for a new pickup truck for himself.

Very quickly the Peterson case became national and then international news. Questions were asked how such a handsome and seemingly happy couple could have come to such a tragic end.

As the police continued their investigation, Scott's life and lies began to unravel. Scott had been having an affair with a young woman named Amber Frey, and continued to be involved with her as police and volunteers scoured the area looking for his wife's body. Scott lied to Amber, telling her he was a widower. He even phoned her from a candlelight vigil for Laci, telling her he was in Paris and describing the scene at the Eiffel Tower! Amber said she was horrified when she found out Scott was not only married, but had a missing wife and unborn child whom he was suspected of killing. She contacted authorities and aided in their investigation by recording her telephone conversations with Scott. Scott's cell phone records and interviews exposed his many lies about his locations at the time of Laci's disappearance. While Laci's family initially supported Scott and proclaimed he was innocent, they turned against him as this information came to light.

In April 2003, the remains of Laci and her unborn son washed up only 3 miles from where Scott told authorities he had been fishing on the day of her disappearance. Police had been following Scott for fear he would attempt to flee to Mexico and arrested him as soon as the bodies were identified on April 18, 2003. Scott was charged with murder of his wife and unborn son. It appears the police arrested Peterson just in time. He had dyed his hair blond and grown a goatee. He was traveling with his brother's driver's license, credit cards belonging to family members, extensive camping equipment, food and clothes, Mexican currency, and nearly $15,000 in cash.

Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, on November 12, 2004 at 1:12 pm PST in Redwood City, California, Scott Peterson was found guilty of murdering his wife and unborn son. Scott showed no reaction when the verdict was read. As of this writing, the sentencing phase had not yet begun, but Scott faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Scott Peterson's Chart

There are many more stars to look at in a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart than just the 14 major stars, but for space purposes in this column I am showing the very basic chart. Again, there are 12 boxes or palaces, one for each life aspect for the person's lifetime. Each palace contains stars that are either actually present or reflecting in from the opposite palace. Each palace is used for several purposes - the lifetime palace, the 10yr cycle, the annual cycle, the monthly cycle and more.

The natal Ming palace shows the person's basic personality. Scott has Wu Qu/Hua Ji. Wu Qu is the Army general and having Hua Ji attached to it brings out the worst of Wu Qu. As you might presume, Wu Qu has a very strong personality and does not work well with others. With Hua Ji it can be even more unfeeling and cold-hearted. Most friends of the couple ended up testifying for the prosecution. Scott's Karma palace is located here, indicating a cold, stubborn, lonely and determined mindset.

Interestingly, Scott's 10-year Spouse palace was located here at the time of Laci's murder. This indicates that Laci's personality was also quite strong and not easy for Scott to get along with.

Tian Fu, the "CEO" star is in this palace. It is far thinking and loves money. Both Scott and Laci liked to live well, and Scott bought a boat that he did not tell anyone about. Qing Yang, the knife star is reflecting in. Qing Yang and Tian Fu together can indicate someone who will exploit any means to obtain his objective. It is clear from the evidence at the trial that Scott carefully planned and executed the murder (however guilty he acted afterward), making anchor weights from concrete, and disposing of Laci's body without anyone seeing him or leaving direct evidence.

Scott's natal Karma palace and 10 year Ming contains Tan Lang, the hungry wolf. Tan Lang is desirous and wants everything yesterday. It likes money, and is impatient and unwilling to wait. Scott wanted to get out of his marriage and responsibilities to the baby - he went out with Amber while leaving Laci to go to a Christmas party alone. Reflecting into this palace is Lian Zhen, the politician star. This is considered a "peach blossom" or romance star, making it more likely that Scott would get involved with other women. Amber was not Scott's first affair. Within the first year of their marriage, Scott started an affair with a classmate in college. Later another lover walked in on Scott and Laci as they lay in their own bed.

Scott's natal Spouse palace has Zi Wei reflecting into it. This means that his mate will want to be treated like an empress. This would cause dissatisfaction in Scott as someone must serve the empress and that would be Scott. Tian Xiang is also here - a passive star indicating a dependent spouse. Laci was working part time as a substitute teacher before becoming pregnant. Scott's natal Ming palace is here, indicating that he wanted to be treated like the emperor. With both him and Laci wanting to be treated like royalty, this would require some maturity and love from Scott to handle effectively, but he came to increasingly resent Laci.

Murder is the leading cause of death in pregnant women. Instead of it being a joyful happy time, often anger and violence can escalate as a pregnant woman becomes more vulnerable physically. Friends and family say they saw no signs of strain or abuse in the relationship between Scott and Laci Peterson. I do not know if Scott was physically abusive to Laci during their relationship. No one ever saw any evidence of it but it is still quite possible. And Scott's anger increased. After expecting to be treated like the king, his needs increasingly had to come second to Laci's pregnancy and their coming child. Scott would no longer be the king.
Scott's 10-year Karma palace is also here, indicating he not only wanted to be treated like the emperor, but that he felt lonely and misunderstood. Po Jun is also here, which is a "breaker" star that tears things down. Neither Scott nor Laci were wallflowers, but strong and aggressive personalities which can cause serious clashes in a marriage.

Scott's 10-year cycle shifted after the murders. His new 10-year Ming palace contains Ju Men, the big door star. Having this located in the Ming indicates someone who can get into trouble with gossip and scandal. This case caught the eye of the nation like a house on fire and will continue to for some time. It is interesting that Scott's 10-year Spouse palace contains the knife star. This indicates his spouse holds the knife against him and is fitting as her murder has convicted him.

His annual Ming palace is back in his natal Ming palace where Wu Qu/Hua Ji, the Army general star resides. Scott sat almost completely stone faced during the entire trial, which lasted for several months, keeping in tune with the very cold nature of this star.

Laci Peterson's Chart

Laci's Ming palace contains Qi Sha, a very aggressive and risk-taking star. Like Scott, Laci had a strong personality and was quite stubborn. People born with Qi Sha here often feel discontent, wanting something more, and this can cause emotional suffering. Zi Wei, the emperor star, reflects in which indicates someone who wants to be treated like the empress - which matches Scott's chart of having a spouse who wants to be treated royally. Tian Fu, the "CEO" star also reflects into her Ming. Tian Fu loves money and will plan long-term goals carefully.

Her Karma palace (emotions) contains Wu Qu, the army general, and Tan Lang, the hungry wolf. This is not someone with a great deal of patience. Laci was tough mentally, knowing what she wanted and determined to go after it. Are you beginning to see the correlations between Scott and Laci's charts?

Laci's natal Spouse palace contains Lian Zhen, the politician star. This star has a tendency to tell people what they want to hear and is a peach blossom or romance star. It is very interesting to note that Laci's natal, 10 year, annual and monthly Spouse palaces have a "helper" star in them, which in this position can show that her husband has a lover or someone who helps themselves to her mate.)

Laci's annual and 10 year Spouse palaces also have Qi Sha, Zi Wei and Tian Fu. Scott was not easy to get along with, either, with his very strong and stubborn personality. In my opinion, they were having repeated clashes and unable to see each other's point of view very easily. None of the very strong stars in their charts that were active natally and at the time of the murders - Zi Wei, Wu Qu, Qi Sha, Tan Lang - will back down on anything easily. Zi Wei wants to be the king and to be taken care of, adored and obeyed. Wu Qu is the Army general who gives orders and will not take them. Qi Sha is very aggressive and pushy. Tan Lang lacks patience and wants everything right now. Zi Wei and Wu Qu are the leaders so feel lonely and unable to turn to anyone for help. Who does the king turn to without looking weak? Who does the Army general turn to without looking indecisive?

As I look over their charts, I feel that their marriage had been very bumpy for a long time. Scott probably came to resent his wife's pregnancy because he would no longer have Laci's undivided attention or the freedom to pursue other affairs. He began to plan a way to get rid of her, waiting for the right time. Both of their monthly palaces show very high emotions and clashing in the marriage at the time of the murders. I think things finally came to a head, and Scott killed her in a fit of rage. Laci's Health palace is hit by two Hua Ji's - when two come together it often indicates death.

This is such a tragedy for all concerned. Although there is much more detail in a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart than I was able to describe above, I just want to give you a taste of what a Zi Wei Dou Shu reading can provide. In understanding our charts and others' we can strengthen the best in our personalities, careers and relationships, and hopefully keep these kind of tragedies from happening in the future.
