In Practice: How to Create a Successful Holistic Practice from Start to Success!

Wisdom From The Mothership

by Shaun Brown
The end of the year is here and I want to thank The Meta Arts Magazine for giving me such a successful platform to share my work. I hope that the past eleven months of my holistic business columns have offered tools that continue to point you to success. It is my biggest gift of the holidays to know that I have been of Service and I am looking forward to hopefully inspiring more in 2005. There is much, much more ahead!

This month is devoted to giving you the gift of some wisdom thoughts. The topic is Wisdom- Volunteer, Responses and Choices.

With some effort and a few tools, if being of Service is a calling for you, a very successful business in the healing arts profession is a process. Just remember to be the turtle and not the hare. Although nothing is really original this column is about things I can share with you, that I have probably learned the hard way, or actually took the advice of someone who has been there before me. Have safe and Happy Holidays!

Wisdom

The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight dictionary.com

If there is one thing that is a stand out c
ore theme I am still working on that I want to share with you it is: Everything takes time. Sinna, my best friend since high school reminds me that I live in "Shaun time" and not "Earth Time." We live on a very energy dense planet and I want things to happen yesterday and my expectations are usually way ahead of physical time. It is essential to have at least one good friend in your life to remind you that it takes time to manifest your fourth dimensional ideas into the third dimension.

Begin to find balance in the four quadrants of your life: Spiritual, Emotional, Mental and Physical. It is also critical that you start with meditation and prayer-daily. Your Teachers, Mentors, and Others that reside in the fourth dimension connect with you in Meditation and provide the information you seek. The Temple of God Lies Within-really, really.

In this time of existence as a species, we are being asked to move into a higher level of consciousness so that our beings can experience Peace, Kindness and Love for ourselves and each other. It just feels better. In order for this to happen, we need to have some degree of balance. As this occurs, we start attracting others with the same like-minded degree of balance. Those who seek a constant connection with the Universe will support you in your quest. You will grow as fast as the people you surround yourself with.

Attraction is a vibration. People feel comfortable with someone that has a similar vibration. If a person thinks negative thoughts, and chooses the same negative responses to the same pattern of negative things, they will continue to ride on the drama merry-go-round. They wonder how this could happen to them again; this is the law of Attraction.

There will always be many who choose not to wake up, the zombotics, as I like to refer to them. They are the ones that do not take responsibility for themselves, their lives, or the situation their lives are in. Accidents happen to them, their thinking is negative, and their Temples are quite "dis-eased."

As humans, we can't seem to understand how this Law works. There is a possibility that even though we know how the Law of Attraction works we STILL dig our heels in when we perceive a change coming. We don't realize that all of this design is for our own best interest it's kind of like giving a cat medicine. They don't perceive it as a good thing when they are ill, and they will kick and scratch all the way back to health.

The fear of change, which is a typical human response, keeps us thinking thoughts, making familiar choices, and staying where we are, wondering why we are not happy. Even though we want to feel better, we are afraid to drop the rocks we are carrying around. I have said this before, it's kind of like sitting at the bus stop waiting for a bus and God pulls up in a Mercedes and we keep looking down the road for the bus! Does that make sense?

Try an experiment, once again when you reach the edge of your cliff, take a leap of faith and jump! I promise that you will land in a soft nest or God is going to teach you how to fly! In other words let go of expectations and give your problem to The Universe. Visualize the problem floating into space and then get on with the task in front of you. There is nothing safer and more serene then letting go of expectations and letting the Universe point you in the direction of a great life. Take a chance you are worth it!

As your consciousness is raised by Trusting the process of your growth, and you become a pretty good cliff jumper, the people in your life that stay in the non-growing state will fall away from you. That can feel a little scary but the good news is the ones who resonate more like you will appear. This is a constant process in Life; "People are in your life for a reason, season or forever." Iyanla Van Zant
Marianne Williamson remarked that, "our biggest fear is not that we are small insignificant humans. Our biggest fear is that we are Powerful beings beyond our imagination." Can you dig it!

Life And Plenty Of It-Volunteer!

It comes back to the self-esteem thing again. We get so stuck in our fear of change that we become complacent about moving forward because that will constitute change. Well yeah! Some wise person once said, "The only thing that's constant is change." In regards to giving, the only way to get out of the low self-esteem, non-abundant belief is to Give.

Maybe volunteer your time in an old folks' home, go pet kittens. Commit to at least 3-6 months. It teaches discipline, accountability and volunteering your time is tax deductible. There are tons of organizations starving for your time. Give without effort. Commit to even once a month to share your Life Force in whatever manner you are called to do. Meditate and pray and ask to be guided in a direction of Service. I always ask for billboards. You never know who you will meet and what gifts await you!

The way to get the energy going and keep it going, as stated by the "Law of the Universe," is to give. Why sit around waiting for the phone to ring when you can be busy helping or volunteering your time to hundreds of worthy organizations? The most awesome experiences occur when you least expect it. It's a good idea to get out of yourself and volunteer not necessarily in your occupation. Just show up as a worker bee it keeps your motives really clean. When you do give without any intentions of getting you meet the most amazing people. I just finished a year volunteering for hospice. Those organizations can always use an angel that can just show up too.

I also continue to support the local public TV, women's shelter, SPCA, and so on with money. Once a month I send money to a religious group I resonate with even though I rarely attend services. These are ways to symbolically keep the flow going for me. The Universe doesn't need money it is already Abundant. This is a symbolic way for me to cast the most prized possession out into the Universe and trust that it will return 10 fold. It does. Try this experiment for three months.

If you are half-full, instead of half-empty, the concept of giving will be easier to incorporate into your life. Instead of waiting to get, put some business cards in your pocket and volunteer your time somewhere. If someone in conversation happens to ask you for your business card, that's great! If the chance encounter with a new client doesn't happen the way you thought it needed to, pay attention to the gift you are learning just by being there. Energy can be directed at observing all the miracles taking place around you rather than wasting time on your expectations. So let go!

As a sidebar, when you find yourself getting cranky, tired and out of sorts, it is probably that you are not having fun. We forget the most important person in the giving quotient-you. A client once asked me, "What are your hobbies?" I replied, "Getting a massage and watching movies." I have many more interests, I don't want you to think I am a total couch potato, but in my busy world, just like yours, it doesn't have to be anything extravagant. Make sure the first person that you give to in the morning is you-prayer and meditation. And make sure you receive from others too. Giving equals Self-Care. Give your Soul meditation, give your heart emotions, give your head a good movie every once in a while, and give your body a good dance or massage!

Responses

To show some effect in return to a force; to act in response Dictionary.com

If you do not know who you are or where you are going, how do you expect to get anywhere? Positive thinkers and doers attract the same like-minded counterparts. They usually have a pretty good idea of who they are. As a holistic professional you are being asked to respond to yourself, and help others to find meaning in their lives. Know the purpose for which you were born-Become a Spiritual Adult.

Many different art forms being created today all point to the same message-become responsible for you. I am an old hippie from the West Coast and was fortunate to experience the transformation of the sixties. I witnessed a change in the thinking and environment of the collective human Consciousness. It was a time of incredible change and those of us fortunate enough to witness this phenomenon, Knew this was a very special time to be alive.

That time is here again. Remarkable change is happening again and we are being called to a Higher Order again. I don't know about you, but I am noticing a pattern here. The ones who stand up and respond to themselves and to others in these next several years, will become the leaders, guides and coaches and help those interested in choosing a better life, one that is guided by the Universe.
Having been born and raised in California it might have been a little bit easier to think independently. Because we are so multi-cultured here there is an infinite choice of paradigms to create ourselves. We are lovingly referred to as the land of fruits and nuts." Although, as I contact people all over the world, I have found that regardless of where they live all healers are in harmony with the concept of Self-Care and response to the Force that guides them.

We are growing up as a species, we no longer need to rely upon what another person tells us in order to respond to who we are and how we express our own life. We are finding balance and receiving our own information through the StarGate, the mental portal accessed through meditation. We are finding ourselves on missions that are leading us and others towards that all-Knowing Light Force.

Learning balance

can take many forms such as teachers, professionals, coaches and speakers, just to name a few. We are all being asked to share our message and leave our unique fingerprint on the Souls we touch but we must constantly expand our Spiritual growth. The multi-leveled job of a holistic professional is much more than what most people perceive it is at first. The ones with the calling are called. As a holistic professional, just your presence in your neighborhood will hold sacred space for all of those neighbors you surround.

This is your time as a holistic professional, to take part in a Life so beyond your creation that there is no point in speculating what that will look like. When walking into a supermarket, whether you know it at first or not, you might as well wave to the masses because your vibration is influencing everything around you as if you were emitting the most beautiful music for all to hear.

There will be deaf ears too, but do not be concerned. The ones who hear your beauty have chosen to. Respond to yourself and others by choosing to make an intentional connection with the Universe.

Fear-The Paper Dragon

Intentional Success understands how to get to the Gate and walk through it. All of your answers are not that hard to find. It does take a little disciplined effort such as daily meditation and learning to let go of fear. Did I mention daily meditation…smile?

A well know pioneer that lectures about the energy system, Dr. Carolyn Myss, says take fear to dinner. Table for two please, have eye contact and a discussion with your dinner mate. As you face each fear you will find that it is only smoke and mirrors and a big paper dragon. By going forward, and acknowledging your fears, you become more of a grounded, attractive person. You will attract clients that need to feel what that type of courage feels like. You become a calming vibration and represent Freedom from bondage of self-imposed fear.

I have learned to let go of a lot of fear by looking at one issue at a time, like a piece of the puzzle. I approach each one with special attention, letting go, grieving, and moving on to the next one. This way I don't get overwhelmed. My goal is to be free and as I mentioned earlier-it takes time.

Years ago I had reached a place where even though my "outsides" looked pretty good, my "insides" were killing me. I had a pretty successful housecleaning business, raised my son, and earned my degrees. I also divorced my husband, because you see, it was all his fault. I was totally in charge of my life. Upon turning the milestone of 40, I had reached a bottom with my obsession to control. My life was a mess and I used many substances to try and keep everything around me including my feelings, in control.

I did not realize that all of this turmoil and dissatisfaction was choice and that self-perceived fears, the belief system of 'survival mode' kept me on the perpetual merry-go-round of the constant need to control. I thought trying to control everything would make me feel safe, it didn't.
Reaching a stage of hopelessness I FINALLY got help, got counseling, got in a 12-step program, and got on the journey into myself where I finally got real. I wish this for you or anyone who finds no joy in there life. Life doesn't have to be a struggle.

Choices

No matter what type of holistic business you choose, when influenced by your heart, you are getting guidance or connection in some way from the fourth dimension. These hints, signs, and feelings about someone or something, and the ability to "read" or scan someone's energy system because you are so familiar with your own-are all gifts. Every professional can achieve these experiences. Guidance will become stronger as you decide to take your own responsibility for it and not run it by a committee. A student once asked me, "How will you know when you start receiving information from your Guides and Teachers?" I said, "When you stop trying to."
The work involved is Self-Care. The re

dundancy of this subject is Intentional. This is how I was able to receive a Successful Life and I would like you to have the opportunity to be successful too. I can't stress this enough. There are many ways to success; I can only share my experiences. Try them all and choose the method that works best for you.

Physically, keep your body moving, whether it is dancing, swimming, or just having constant good, safe sex.

Mentally, keep your mind stimulated. Read stories to old folks, write books or articles or just write down ideas to yourself, listen and/or play music, paint with watercolors just because.

Emotionally, find a professional or Mentor with whom you resonate that wants to work with you. Start looking at your fears. Let go of each as they come up for you. Place your fear in a balloon that floats up into the sky; pop the balloon as it rises. Visualize this in your morning meditation. Your load will feel lighter and each time you have courage to let go of a fear that space is filled with Light. This is a life long process and you can start today.

Spiritually, this was the last key that set me Free, my favorite, and the one I was most afraid to engage because I was terrified of not controlling everything. I still micromanage a little, but I am working on it. Ok, my friends tell me I still micromanage a lot-it's a process folks….smile
