Astrologer's Notes:
Managing a Difficult Vocational 'Read'
-and Being Confident with an Easy One!
by Noel Tyl
This series of Vocational Guidance tutorial essays focuses on perhaps the most vitally important dimension of our astrological work: what one does for a living, into which channels one can go for fulfillment, doing well with the greatest segment of our awake time in life.

Gradually we are assembling awareness of key circuits of analysis based upon the Midheaven Extension method. [See noeltyl.com, MENU/BOOKS for a full 13,000-word presentation of this technique with 25 examples]. Let's look at a particularly difficult 'read' of the vocational profile.

Whenever Capricorn is on the Midheaven, keying Saturn as the beginning of Midheaven extension, the vocational channel of "Administration" must come into focus immediately. [Indeed, if Neptunian, even Jupiterian and 9th House significances will accumulate, this channel concept will often be altered to the focus of "ministry."]

With the concept of "Administration", we must be on the lookout for what field or fields will best present themselves to the client for administrative activity. And that is not always easy.

Beginning Midheaven Extension Saturn rules the Midheaven and is in Sagittarius, tightly square the Sun, ruler of the 5th. Saturn is disposited by Jupiter [Jupiter rules the Sign holding Saturn], Jupiter is conjoined with Pluto in Leo, and the two are disposited by the Sun, which receives the square from Saturn, the Midheaven ruler.

Quite quickly, a tight planetary circuit is revealed: administration possibly related to the 8th House (where Saturn is), the 5th House, 12th or 6th House areas of concern.

We can begin to think: administration with the sense of ethics, internationalism (even publishing, travel, law perhaps), keying on the Sign Sagittarius and the Jupiter dispositorship, Jupiter's rulership of the 9th (holding Mars, which is trine Jupiter). There is an 8th House emphasis -Saturn's position there, the House ruled by Pluto in conjunct with Jupiter, Saturn's dispositor- that suggests healing, helping others (an echo of the Southwest orientation of the whole horoscope).

Jupiter's position in the 5th with Pluto, with the 5th ruled by the Sun, brings into mind children and athletics (and even the entertainment industry).

Then, through the extended Saturn link to the Sun in the 12th, we have an indication of large organizations, especially government.

Condensing and clarifying these observations, we can say "administration in large concerns, possibly government or university, helping others, with an international sense, with possible involvement of children, sports, or spiritual studies (note that Neptune in an Angle is disposited by Pluto conjoined with Jupiter. In other words, Neptune is also fed into this Saturn-circuit.)

We must remember that not all observations can be expected to manifest or be followed at the same time! But in a vocational array of potential such as this, different areas may be keyed in the life at different stages, one area leading later into the next. "Administration" is the key thread that binds them all. And this "feel" is polished with the awareness of the man's arch opinionation energy (Mars in Sagittarius tightly trine Jupiter), a humanitarian turn of mind (Mercury in Aquarius), and a sense of justifying new-change activities with the "right" vision (Uranus square Neptune).

With all this in order in my mind, with a few guideline notes, I began a discussion with my client about his work: "My first study of the potential here is for administration of large concepts that do others a lot of good, that may have an international touch to them, a governmental organization about them, and somewhere along the line maybe even children's welfare might be included. This is complicated; please help me out!"

My client said that everything I had suggested was true at different times in his career. Right out of college, with a degree in Psychology, he had begun working in a psychological clinic with children, then moved into sports medicine and then finally into his national government in the state capital, as administrative assistant to a Senator. At the moment, he was applying for work on a newly formed governmental Business Ethics Commission! --Everything fit!!

Sometimes, vocational profiling in the horoscope comes together almost too fast! It's hard to be confident of the "easy read."
There simply is no doubt whatsoever that "Communications" is going to be the modality for career choice for this lady. Mercury is exactly conjunct the Midheaven and the Moon, in Sagittarius no less, and Jupiter, Mercury's dispositor, is in turn disposited by Venus, and Venus squares Jupiter! This says artistic communications, and the FIVE Quintiles throughout the horoscope demand recognition of a creative outlet in the life!

Mercury also rules the 5th (children, sports, theatre).

Jupiter rules the Midheaven and is also dispositor of the Sun which rules the 7th and is trine Pluto in the 7th.

Here we see a clear, clear public thrust for artistic communications, probably in the theatre.

We must believe our technique; we must be confident. When I asked her about the creative outlet in her life, she replied that she was an actress on Broadway for some 30 years, and as her career started to die down, she became a very successful specialist with "voice-overs", soundtracks for commercials, video shows, etc.!

Now she was eager to begin a new career, and it was easy for me to follow the lead of Moon oriental: teaching, mentoring, instructing. My client has long been interested in world of spiritual healing, in astrology, the supernatural [Sun=Neptune/Pluto, Pluto=Sun/Neptune]. All her theatrical experience and her voice skills will now follow this mentoring opportunity in the area of spiritual healing for the rest of her life.

Practice vocational profiling. It is one of the most demanding disciplines in Astrology; it is one of the most important services Astrology has to offer.

An intensely information packed Vocational Analysis Booklet guide with full development of the Midheaven Extension Process (some 75 pages, 13,000 words, and 25 examples) is available at noeltyl.com, MENU, BOOKS.
