Control of our emotions gives us ultimate control over our lives. Control enables us to think clearly and thus enables us to avoid hurting others and making errors in judgment.
Lust (kama)
Negative: Too many worldly desires, which keeps us in constant turmoil and peace less. We keep chasing after different things.
Positive: Have less worldly desires. Ultimately leave all worldly desires. Have only desire for God. You will attain highest happiness.
Anger (krodha)
Negative: To be angry when things do not go according to our choice. With anger we cause physical, verbal and mental violence against others and cause them sorrow and tears. This aggression will bring back the tears and suffering to us.
Positive: Anger is something that comes to us when we feel some injustice is done to us. Anger could be channelled to work for justice and fight for the right cause and Dharma.
Delusion (moha),
Negative: Getting carried away by many worldly things. Example you already have nice car. But the neighbour bought a new car. You think his car looks better or neighbours house looks better. This way you constantly chase new things with out ever getting a chance to enjoy what you already have. Ever remain restless and miserable. Ravan was carried by any new ladies.
Positive: Understand this world is created for the enjoyment of all the life. This world is like a movie. We came here to entertain our selves. Just like we do not think the movie is real and get carried, we should also think this world is temporary. Be content enjoy what we have fully and stay peaceful.
Greed (lobha)
Negative:Desire to acquire many things more than your requirement. Keep accumulating many things and have no time to enjoy them. End up protecting your possessions than enjoying them.
Positive: Understand the real value of material things and money. Material things are there simply to fulfill some of your requirements. Have no real value other than serving your purpose. Having more than what you need is simply not allowing others to enjoy who needs them. This is equivalent to stealing and hiding from others who really needs them. You might have ten pairs of shoes. But there are people who do not have even one pair of shoes to walk. The only purpose of money is exchange of effort or work from one to another. Money should be used to meet your needs.
Pride (mada),
Negative: Pride is of many tiypes. Pride of Knowledge, Pride of Spirituality, Pride of wealth, Pride of beauty, Pride of strength, Pride of Profession, Pride of Qualification, so on.
Positive: Understand the real value of things. Profession is to serve the community. Knowledge is to attain humility and divinity, Education is to attain character. Beauty and youth is the creation of God and very temporary like a water bubble. Wealth changes hands very quickly and you cannot take it with you at the time of death. What ever you have there is no point in showing off. They are given by God for you enjoyment and experience.
Envy (maatsarya)
Negative: Crying for what others have. This blocks of your enjoyment as you can never see what you already have.
Positive: God gives every one what they require at that particular time to achieve progress in life either materially or spiritually. Some times you might not have any material possessions while others have lots. That time is a time of test where you develop spirituality or attain spiritual wealth. There fore always be content for what you have and never worry about others possessions. Every one have their development and growth and all are moving towards God at their own pace. God gives every one what ever they really require.
The mind (manas),
Negative: Mind is nothing but a bundle of desires. It is like a cloth made of many threads. These threads are different desires. Mind is like to curtain between us and God. It constantly thinks I want this and I do not want that. It keeps us perpetually preoccupied with this world and keeps us sensually indulgent.
Positive: Mind is given to enjoy the world and understand the beauty of creation and power of God. We should develop positive thoughts of devotion and service. Ultimately over come all the material desires and the curtain is lifted and we will see the God.
Intellect (buddhi)
Negative: Intellect constantly keeps us involved devising ways and means to achieve many material things to enjoy through our sense organs. It will make us forget God and makes us very active in this world. We may use our intellect to become political and cause pain and conflict to others
Positive: Use your intellect to help others. Through intellect control the senses and ultimately attain divinity.
Will (chitta),
Negative: Chitta is spiritual heart. Here we have many past samskaras created by our many past karmas. Hear are many bad hobbits of anger, greed, lust, envy, and ego.
Positive: Every time your past bad habits or samskaras prompt you to act in the negative way make a deliberate will and effort act positively. Fill your heart with positive qualities.
Ego (ahamkara)
Negative: Associate only with body and world.
Positive: Realize body is temporary and soul is permanent. See the divinity in every one which is the soul, which is reflection of God. This takes us to God.
