Vocational Profiling: still more
|
 |
by Noel Tyl
|
 |

Over the past few months, we've studied the principle of Midheaven Extension within the process of modern Vocational Profiling, a vitally important service performed by astrologers. With practice by now, the process should flow more smoothly for you.
The first example shows how to manage two professional avenues at the same time.
1. The Aquarius Midheaven immediately sends out, throughout the horoscope -just as the Sun's light beams throughout its planetary system-a signal in the name of Aquarius (helpfulness, humanitarian sensitivity), through the ruling planet Uranus, here positioned in Libra (social awareness), conjunct Mercury. Uranus and Mercury are both disposited by Venus; Venus and Mercury are in mutual reception, establishing an idealism-awareness within social sensitivity possibly projected through humanitarian channels.
This is a remarkable set of deductions made practically in an instant. The Uranus, the ruling planet of the MC, is itself trine the MC! -We can be very confident about our deductions.
2. Next, we check the Midheaven for any extension through aspects to it, beyond the trine by Uranus already noted. We see that Saturn is square the Midheaven -this will be important-and, as well, Saturn is peregrine! --This will be very important!
3. Saturn rules the 9th and introduces the idea of higher education, of legalism into our deductions. It is a comfortable, common sensical fit.
STOP.
The accumulated deductions through Midheaven extension are that the vocational profile should address itself to the social scene, in a humanitarian way, aware of strong idealization, and possibly involve administration and/or legalisms, perhaps in a university setting or through publishing channels.
This young woman is a criminal court lawyer.
But there is more.
We know there is more because Neptune makes a quintile to the MC and is here conjunct the powerful Moon. [Neptune is particularly responsive within quintile aspects because of the creative overtones of the planet and the aspect.] Neptune sextile with Venus reinforces the creative capacities as well.
So we must somehow assimilate the creative arts potentials for this young woman managing needs for creative fulfillment. Will they be kept at a hobby level or will they be a second, perhaps alternative profession? --With Venus shared in both signatures, it is safe to assume that her creativity would best be expressed ALSO in idealized, humanitarian tones.
At the time of consultation, Solar Arc Uranus had arced to exact square with her Midheaven, with tr Pluto conjunct her 7th cusp (opposing the Ascendant), and much more. I asked her, "There are many powerful signals here right now that you are possibly planning a change in your profession. What's going on?
The lady replied that she was indeed planning to leave her lawyer profession and become a documentary film maker! She agreed that her work in film would be to comment on injustices in the world, on social problems.
Amazing.
A second example:
This lady presents a very direct, clear-cut vocational profile.
1. The Midheaven is Virgo, ruled by Mercury. -Immediately, your mind thinks "communications, information, selling."
2. Mercury is peregrine -making it ultra-important here-and it is quindecile to the Midheaven. Mercury is practically everything in the vocational analysis.
3. We see that the Moon is in the 3rd House of communications (a strong echo of the Mercury), and the Moon is quindecile as well with the Midheaven. Basically, we have the Midpoint picture MC=Moon/Mercury: the profession deals with information management, communications.
4. We see that the Moon is oriental (rising last before the Sun, in clockwise motion), a highly reliable indicator of the dimension of teaching, mentoring, coaching within the profession, no matter what it is or with whom it is engaged.
STOP
The observations/deductions are cast in stone. They are compelling; we need no more. This woman will find fulfillment vocationally through management of information, selling information, teaching information. -If you ask her what she does for a living, she replies, "I teach Television and Advertising people how to make persuasive business presentations."
Amazing.
A third example

1. With the Libra Midheaven, we know that Venus will be very, very important as significator of the profession.
2. Venus is in Aquarius, in mutual reception with Uranus, heightening the Venus creativity for sure.
3. And this Venus is squared by Neptune -which is oriental-sealing in stone the vocational profile in an artistic profession; with much idealization involved, perhaps about home security, emotional safety (the Moon in Cancer trine Neptune and square the Midheaven).
STOP
This woman is an architect!!
I've formulated the Midheaven Extension Method over the last five years to give a modern structure to vocational profiling in a modernized, highly variegated marketplace. Vocational choice is critical in our lives; it must embody dimensions of personal fulfillment in order for us to be at our best in life. Otherwise -in the wrong job, in the wrong profession, without personal needs (the Midheaven light from our vocational highpoint focus) being pursued and fulfilled, we are miserable.
Vocational profiling is one of the most critically important services offered by astrology. -I hope you are finding this series of vocational orientation instruction essays valuable and helpful in improving your astrological technique and service to others.
An intensely information packed Vocational Analysis Booklet guide with full development of the Midheaven Extension Process (some 75 pages, 37,000 words, and 25 examples) is available at noeltyl.com, MENU, BOOKS.
