Alternative Health & Healing: Homeopathy
Relief for your fatigue
part 2 |
|
 |

There are trillions of cells that comprise our body. And the real beauty is that there is an inner intelligence guiding all of our bodily functions as an exquisite multi-layered symphony.
Let us discuss in further detail some of the underlying causes why fatigue may arise. Tiredness is often be accompanied by this inner knowing, "I'm not even doing anything to cause this much tiredness." Since the body is so complex, let's dig a little deeper. For the most part we don't spend much time thinking of the body's complexity. Generally as the body carries out its myriad tasks it does so quietly. Even when a deep illness is brewing in the body it often happens quietly over time. Until the cover up can't go on and we have to uncover what the problem is. Also we have been trained to ignore symptoms when they appear, or seek to erase them with quick fixes of the over-the-counter type solutions. Only when something doesn't seem to be working, instantly do we focus on getting better. It may be wiser to tune into the body before things break down. To do so requires learning body talk.
Another Look at Causes
In Chinese medicine five types of fatigue have been identified:
- using the eyes for too long is harmful to the blood
- lying for too long is harmful to energy
- sitting for too long harms the muscles
- long periods of standing harms the bones
- excessive walking is harmful to the tendons
Any activity overdone can lead to an internal unbalancing of the internal organ energy systems. In homeopathy the focus is primarily treating "what is." While you look at what may have caused a condition, it is by understanding what is currently happening that you can heal it. Etiology is important; one needs to be aware of the non-physical causes of disease, and diseases that are the result of poor choices. For example too much sexual activity is harmful to the body and mind. It can cause fatigue, mental instability, irritation, nervousness and anger to name a few. In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), the practitioner may upon examining a client say they have "kidney deficiency" which is the end result of excessive behavior. In Homeopathy there is the concept of obstacles to cure which calls the practitioner to look at how various factors; diet, exercise, living conditions, sexuality and emotional mismanagement can block healing from taking place if not corrected. The best indicated remedies lose the ability to do their healing work when the body is beset by an overload of negative factors.
Hormones secreted by the adrenal glands are essential factors in energy production. The adrenal glands become exhausted from too much stress, excess caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate), lack of sleep, fear, worry and poor nutrition.
Body Talk
According to Han Seyle the pioneer stress researcher, stress is the nonspecific response of the body to any demand. Seyle, himself after having worked with a large number of patients noted some common symptoms. Many of the patients had a coated tongue, general aches and pains and poor appetite. Other symptoms which were noted were enlarged spleen or liver, skin rashes and other general symptoms. Vague discomforts left untended over time may manifest into a disease condition; either way one's quality of life becomes reduced. This is usually due to chronic conditions that nibble away at your core energy, leaving you vulnerable to illness and disease.
In the movie, "Groundhog Day", newsman Phil Connor knows he is having a problem when it seems as if every day is just like the day before. He tells his co-workers his dilemma simply stating "I need help." During his examination the doctor looks at his x-rays, very erudite and says of the slides, "no spots, no clots, no tumors
you need a psychiatrist." In Western medicine the body and the mind are disconnected, seen as separate entities. Selye himself a trained medical doctor and scientist keenly observed that something was wrong with this picture. His concern was that over the long history of (Western) medicine why has there been so much focus on the discovery and treatments of individual diseases and so little thought to the syndrome of just being sick?
There are medical approaches that are able to make sense out of signs and symptoms that the body and the mind produce. Three that come to mind are Indian (Ayurveda), Traditional Chinese Medicine and Homeopathy. Each system has a lot to offer. Shamanic and Spiritual healing approaches extend also beyond the concept that man is just an assemblage of biomechanical parts. One of the keys to using homeopathy to heal you fatigue requires learning about the medicines. One of, the most marvelous gifts of the homeopathic method is its ability to bring out the medicinal powers of substances. As we go along you will see the amazing healing properties of ordinary substances all around us, that only the homeopathic method can reveal and offer safely. Following is a continuation of last month's list of selected homeopathic remedies often indicated for fatigue.
Homeopathic Remedies
Lecithin (Lec.)
Lecithin is high in phospholipids, which are fatty substances found in most body cells and in high concentration in the brain (30%). Indications for its use as a homeopathic remedy are difficulty in thinking accompanied by nervousness and weakness. Lecithin improves the nutrition of the blood and is useful in anemia, insomnia and neurasthenia. There is often soreness, aches and lack of energy. The limbs are weak and heavy and feel worse walking. There may also be shortness of breath. Craves wine and coffee.
Natrum Phosphoricum (Nat-p)
It is useful for when there is excess lactic acid in the body, from excess sugar in the diet. Feels very tired and talking requires effort. Trembling in the knees and legs, weakness in the lower back. There is a tendency to suffer from headaches after mental work, with sensitivity to noise, music and storms.
Picric Acid (Pic-ac)
Picric Acid in its natural state is a strong acid, used in explosives. As a homeopathic remedy its is used for 'burn out'. A neurasthenic remedy it is useful for pernicious anemia, and worn out conditions when the other symptoms match. Useful for overworked minds of students and business people, especially when the overworked states bring on a headache. Headaches are often on the top of the head or the back of the head, and may extend into the eyes. The mental state is one of indifference with a lack of will power. The fatigue sets in soon after one begins to work. After just a little work, one is ready to stop. It is difficult to gather one's thoughts. There is often great thirst. Men may experience a high sexual desire, which may disturb sleep. There may be problems falling asleep or when waking one does not feel rested. Fresh air helps relieve the tiredness, as does lying quietly on the back, and is often worse when going upstairs. There is sensitivity to heat (sun) and worse when chilled. Symptoms are closely related to Phosphoricum acidum.
Plumbum (Plb.)
Here there is slow perception, neural processes are slowed down. A pin prick is slow to register. There is weak memory or memory loss, accompanied by difficulty in finding the proper word when speaking. Sadness. No appetite. Emaciated. The personality is timid, restless and anxious. Body temperature is chilly. Feels worse in the evening and at night.
Selenium (Sel.)
Easily tired, by heat of sun; or a little mental or physical activity makes him sleepy. Feels better after sunset. Senility. Emaciation; of single parts, face, hands, etc. Cramp, then stiffness. Talkative, yet sad. Hair falls out, thinning eyebrows. Craves stimulants, tea, etc.. Sharp stitches in or rash over liver. Abdominal pulsation; hinders sleep. Very large stools. Lascivious, but impotent. Urine and semen dribble, easy loss of semen, at stool, etc..
Healing Notes
Learning how to listen to the body is key to healing. The actions you take, the choices you make are essential components of healing. Healing involves learning how to think correctly and it aligns one with God. The absence of a physical disease does not mean that one is healthy. There is physical component of health and a spiritual component of health. When the body produces a symptom, and there are countless, ask what is the meaning of it? The quick answer is it means that I'm sick. A deeper answer is to change your diet, or look at how you think about things, or perhaps you need to heal your selfishness, or you need to improve your immune system with the proper remedies, foods and herbs. Spend at least 30 - 60 minutes outside daily.
Harvesting organs (livers and hearts), and changing plant genes to become an agent for vaccines is not healing, it is not even medicine. The goal of true medicine is to work to restore wholeness and promote balance, if those results are not happening one is only masking the real problem.
