The Greatest Prayer is Thank You
|
|
 |
by Shaun Brown |
|
|
As the harvest season approaches we, as Americans, have set aside this time of year to give thanks for all of our blessings. The season reminds us to be thankful for all we have learned and also remember to honor others and ourselves. This is a time for reflection of who we are, how we did life in the past and what changes we want to make in the future. I put forth three more ingredients to getting the flow going and opening your heart, Service, Cleaning House, and Thank You.
Service
Work done for others as an occupation or business, active devotion to God, as through good works or prayer. Dictionary.com
Do You Feed The Hungry?
There are thousands of really good and informative books regarding your ability to create a wonderful life. One I highly recommend is called, "Autobiography Of A Yogi," by Parmahansa Yogananda. His definition of Service became the foundation of all of my transactions in business and my personal life, in other words my Lifestyle. Its contents brought me to the place where I really got the point of Service and what a Life on this Earth should look like in order to have a happy, joyous and Free one.
It is about a Yogi on a personal quest. Just like the Buddha Sidartha, or Jesus of Nazareth, Mohammad of Islam, Moses in the Jewish faith, the Saint Babaji, and countless other Saints and Sages, the author goes on a personal prodigal journey seeking Truth.
This Swami, which means celibate priest, is the holy man who brought yoga and meditation into the US in the 20's. He wrote about one idea in this book that hit me so hard it knocked me into the fourth dimension. He talks about walking the streets of India and seeing all of the magicians, as he calls them, manifestors of things from the fourth dimension to this one. There are people selling a look at the novelty of men levitating in meditation, some of them a few feet off the ground. There are some that are selling rose oil that has been manifested from the palm of their hands. These are skills developed with a lot of discipline and probably some individuals have brought these crafts back from their many lifetimes. As he continued to walk and view these wonders of Nature he asks himself, "Yes, all of these things are great, BUT does it feed the hungry?"
This statement can be very symbolic. A holistic professional can feed the clients' Spirit, Body, Emotions, and Mind just by being who they are. It is important that your client doesn't become dependent on your craft. In other words does your business sell a product to help them find their wholeness or are you educating them that they can create their own rose oil?
Does the work you do feed the hungry? Will you point the clients in the direction of "wholeness," showing them by example what it takes to keep the Physical, Spiritual, Emotional, and Mental quadrants in balance Intentionally? It is not kind to sell clients your answers to their future, knowing that the mystery of God is a Mystery. There have been very few Masters in this world that really can see your future.
Clean House-It's All Inside
I have had a few extraordinary paranormal experiences too. But the idea that changed my life forever was to choose to encourage my clients to find their own answers. My job is to hold sacred space for them and how I do that is to trust God and Clean my house. Also, I only hang out with others that feed the hungry.
You can pay to have your aura cleaned all you want but as soon as you walk into the grocery store it is going to get dirty again! You must learn to clean your own aura and it starts from the inside out. It's just a lot easier to pay someone else to do it. When it comes to connecting to the intuitive connection I am afraid that you must do the work yourself, by working on your issues and practicing daily meditation, there is no way around it. This is something you must engage in to be successful.
We all must go on this journey to find our own Truth, ALONE and within. "Know Thyself." As you emerge on the other side of your courageous self-searching experiences and face your dragons. The new you will rise out of the ashes as paradigms that no longer serve you fall away. Only then can you begin the deepening vocation of Service to others.
True Service is the service that is given to you by the Universe, not co-dependent horse-trading, but true unconditional Service, this is what the holistic professional must strive for in order to be successful. Once you listen to and are guided by your heart and your Guides-your life is no longer your own. You will have less worries when you let go of old belief systems and resentments, Spirit will take care of all of your needs. The cleaner vibration that you now are is attractive and your clients will be encouraged to find their own Truth. They will also tell others of your Service.
Give your clients the courage to find their own answers and Truth for themselves. Why not teach your clients that they can discover their issues on their own. Just by being who you are, and being present with them when you are practicing your chosen craft creates a safe environment for them to start observing their own Inner-self. This is called holding sacred space.
If they don't want to discover who they are on their own, and they want you to fix them and aren't growing forward, let them go. Dependency is not Service. Writing this column is one of many ways I do Service and I hope it will inspire you towards a happy and successful way of life: if you want it. I help individuals that just need a shift in thought. I often have someone call me and ask, "How did I become successful?" I can spend an hour or thirty seconds explaining this. It boils down to Trust God and Clean house. In the past I used to suggest hundreds of ways to tweek their business and at the end of the phone consult the caller would reply, "Yeah I know all of that but how did you REALLY do it."
I don't think it is very productive to talk with someone for an hour with no real help because they are really looking for that one note that will get them to Carnegie Hall. So I have learned that when I initially consult with someone I suggest that they read at least one of my books or have gone through the course just so we are on the same page. They usually figure it out on their own after that.
Getting the flow going and keeping a forward motion maintained is an indispensable prerequisite for a life of abundance and joy, no matter what your occupation. If you are having an abundance set back, this can change. Once your energy goes out to places that very much need it, with no attachments to the outcome, a funny thing happens, you start receiving ten times over your original investment.
When I first started my holistic business, another of the metaphysical concepts that resonated with me was, "The Universe IS Abundant." The Universe is a loving, generous force that wants to give to us constantly and completely. If abundance is not happening in your Life then it's time to find a place to be of Service and schedule some time to visit your Spiritual Advisor. This is not the individual that you pay money to clean or read your aura. We pay someone to do that and tell us our future because we don't want to do the inner work and want someone else to make our decisions usually telling us what we want to hear.
A Spiritual Advisor is someone like a hypnotherapist or counselor that is like-minded and has actually spent a significant amount of time being educated in his or her field. With a real seasoned Spiritual Advisor or Mentor be ready to start cleaning house again. Remember the word AGAIN. It has become my mantra. Here I am again. How did I get here again? I see this pattern again. Ha! This is where the real work starts. Also continue developing your intuition and seek your answers in meditation and prayer without ceasing.
The only problem that stands in the way of Abundance for most people is that they want to write the menu and if what they want is not on their plate, they stay stuck. We are sitting at the bus stop waiting for a bus and God drives up in a Mercedes but we keep looking down the road for the bus!
In order to be guided by the Universe and Serve, it is important to KNOW that whatever is on your plate is the perfect meal. Once you are in Acceptance of this, it's like realizing that you want to get into the Palace but your back is leaning against the front door! If you just turn around, in one nano second, the doors are open for you. OK, no more metaphors.
Thank You
I finished my internship in college by spending a year at the Crocker Art Museum, here in Sacramento, as an executive assistant to the head CEO of marketing. One of our tasks, or my tasks, was to go out into the community and literally ask for free stuff that would culminate in supplies to create the Family Festival. This event is open to all and it not only brings awareness of the arts to the public it allows the children to participate in painting, games and activities that generate healthy family get-togethers.
I understood the "thank you" when the clerk handed me my receipt at the store but until my boss taught me the reasoning behind thank you I really had know idea how important it was to keep the flow going. The community was very gracious and we were given everything from money donations, to buy art supplies, to coupons for free pizza from the local establishment. Thank you was a given.
Anytime anyone makes the gesture to give you a client referral, etc. ALWAYS say thank you. Whatever the magnitude of this gift you can make a simple phone call, email or card. This gives you the ability to go back to the well when your throat is parched, it also keeps the flow going in your direction. When you say thank you to someone they will remember. When you fail to acknowledge a gesture, especially in business, they will remember.
If some kind of reciprocal thank you is not extended, you have interrupted the flow. Likewise, when you give to another it would be nice to hear a thank you. Even though your gift of knowledge or whatever, was given freely it just feels like the circle has been completed. If a thank you is not exclaimed you are less likely to continue giving to that person, it feels like they really don't need your help.
As a Mentor, I always make sure I am asked for my help. I watch how my students respond in kind to me, and if they are takers when class is over. It is human nature to not continue giving to a black hole. When I choose to mentor someone, I learn a lot about the student quickly. Is this person half-full or half-empty? I will not work with someone that is half empty. Every once in awhile I have misread the motives of a student, and very quickly see their behavior as a taker after the first few conversations. Our relationship rapidly moves from Mentor-mentee, to an hourly charge for business consultation.
If someone I choose to work with pro bono shows up at my office with flowers, or have skills, such as computer savvy, that they are happy to share, then you have a giver and it is comfortable to continue the relationship. When you have people in your life that are grateful and understand the value of "thank you," it is a blessing.
I move people out of my life that can't or are not working on "thank you." This may seem harsh but just like the vampire, what is their belief system? This belief will carry on into their holistic practice. A closed fist stops the flow and it is back to survival and CANNOT last long in any business. Maybe in the world of family and friends thank you isn't always spoken and may not be reciprocal, but I am speaking in terms of business. It is expected that if you get- you give back. It is called Networking.
I have a doctor friend who refers a client to me from his practice, about three or four times a year. When he calls to buy a certificate for his wife's birthday you better believe that I will extend a courtesy session to him. The cost of this one-hour session is worth about three times its face value when he sends me new clients. I am also continually thanking my clients for their patronage. I have very loyal clients, even if their income suffers due to a job loss, they will cut back on their sessions instead of leave. When their income returns, they resume they multiple sessions.
Me Please
Saying thank you to yourself is an absolute, this craft of developing a healthy holistic practice is hard work. Most of us are constantly learning and shifting into healthier, stronger people as we muster up the courage to let go of old stuff. It takes a lot of constant effort. Thank yourself, and schedule break time!
Next months segment will focus on Wisdom and plenty of it! As Decembers column, "Advice From The Mothership," interprets the concepts of Volunteering your time not necessarily your occupation, responses, choices, and projects that will keep you grounded on the terra firma.
