The Esoteric Relationship of
The Buddha and The Christ

by Jacquelyn Small
The Buddha and The Christ are esoteric Brothers who marry East and West. They each have their sacred part to do to help us get back Home.

The Buddha The Method: Detachment
Dispassion
Discrimination
The Christ The Method: Individuation
Initiation
Identification

The Buddha's teachings prepare the lower nature, our ego's body, emotions, and mind, to become a conscious expression of divinity.

Detachment means to turn a deaf ear to the call of the lower nature and imposes a new rhythm on man. Through the practice of detachment, we lose interest in egoistic desires.

Dispassion means to become immune to the sufferings of the lower nature when its non-essential desires aren't met.

Discrimination is the quality that teaches us to focus on the good, the beautiful and the true. These bring us the wisdom needed to prepare for the Christ life.

The Eastern teachings leaned toward unity of all beings and tended to negate the value of the individual; which is what Christ's message brings us. "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works." (Matt. V, 16)

The keynote of the entire message of The Christ is expressed in these terms. Through the process of his five initiations he shows us the method whereby we can become identified with God. He shows us the value of the individual and one's self-initiated efforts to grow in stature as we learn to perfect ourselves into God's image of who we are intended to be. We are all to achieve by our own efforts Christ consciousness. This is the meaning of St. Paul1s statement: "the Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. I, 27)

Individuation means to set yourself apart from mass consciousness and your family1s belief systems and become capable of free thought. No one comes to the Father but by me. (Jesus meant by this that he is modeling for us the Way. "No one comes to the Father but by the way I am doing it." This is mistranscribed, and is consequently misinterpreted by most Christian churches as meaning you have to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior or you won't be "saved."

Initiation is the process of unfoldment in stages of the realization of that which already is. It is the process of awakening. "I AM the way, the truth and the light." We all are, as sons and daughters of God. Jesus was the first to know this. He is the archetype of the Divine Human.

Identification means the process of dis-identifying with the personality and re-identifying as a son or daughter of God, a spiritual being. "I and the Father are one."

Humanity was presented with the process of Initiation, to undergo "a new birth" and grow through a gradual achievement of spiritual stature through initiatory trials.

Then, we are to identify with each other, and later with God. This is Christ's message to us and what he modeled as "the way, the truth, and the light." He wanted us to know who we are. And His deepest sorrow was that even his male disciples didn't "get it." According to the Gnostic Gospels, Mary Magdalene was the only one who understood His message and the purpose of His incarnation.

The Mysterious Second Eucharist

The Last Supper had a second meaning that was never made public. It was the closing of the Jesus Mysteries taught only to His disciples. Jesus brought the 12 of them together and placed them in a circle, with Him being the 13th point in the center. Then He said "We will dance the chorea mystica into the new dimension and thereby close the door to duality. Follow me."
And as they danced the circle dance, they chanted:

"I am the Baker; I am the bread.
I am the Potter; I am the clay pot.
I am the Dance; I am the dancer.
I am Sorrow; I am the one who sorrows.
I am Joy; I am the one who is joyful..... "

....and on through many of the archetypes and their creations. This unified the archetypal and the physical dimensions once more, closing the door to all of duality; which brings us Home. His final words that evening were "Those who do not know how to dance have missed the point of my incarnation."

We are here to live life to the fullest, as was modeled by the Christ, never forgetting that we are both the Creator and the created.
