A Guide to Seeking Inner
Awareness Through Meditation
|
|
 |
by Dr. Gwen MacGregor |

"For it is this, at present, the little known mystical Inner Radiance of the Christ-Light which must be recognized and used to bring humanity a truer understanding and fuller appreciation of the laws of Its manifestation
To help us gain this realization and apply its power to our personal lives, we should visualize our real self, not as a finite mortal, but as a great and glorious immortal spiritual being, the mighty I Am presence, overshadowing us and endeavoring to find ever greater expression through us
"
"The Inner Radiance" by Dr. Homer Curtiss
The use of meditation and guided visualization in our spiritual work today is fundamentally the backbone of growth enhancement, continued positive, physical and mental health and the best way to keep our "inner ear" open to the Universe. The alpha state of mind is experienced through dreaming (or daydreaming), induced trance work and meditation. In this place of consciousness our thoughts drift on several planes of existence allowing us to perceive the past, present and future of our physical and spiritual lives. The introduction of symbol interpretation, emotional release and pre-cognition of events to play out in the future can all be experienced through meditation.
In my practice, I often hear clients remark, "But, I just cant quiet my mind long enough to get into a true alpha-state of mind!" My first advice to all who seek the inner path is to remember that the door to the world within us is not opened with the help of a battering ram but, with the slightest caress. If you spend all your energy and concentration on opening the initial door, you will probably fail to maintain the constant flow of energy required to keep the doorway open. Think of yourself as a glass. A glass is reflective and is formed to hold liquid. When you are relaxed and receptive, the liquid or chi flows into you. If you try too hard or have the attitude that you are going to meditate or die trying, you cannot flow with the energy of God within. You remain in the solid state of the physical mind-body continuum.
For beginners, I always recommend a pure path to the art of meditating. It is helpful not to start your meditation period after a full meal or the ingestion of alcohol or drugs. Many find that meditating at the same time every day is conducive to building a state of trust between your mind, body and spirit that allows for quick entrances and exits into and out of the alpha state. Remember, when you decide to set up time for daily meditation, try to allow for at least 20 minutes a day. As so many of us overindulge in things we enjoy, I have found many students meditating 2 and 3 hours at a time. The spirit usually does not require such long periods of contemplation of [Itself] while in the body. The body is designed to parade the spirit while doing great deeds so, waste not the time of your God by sleeping away good information. And remember, the door to your higher self requires only the push of a feather to open it.
It is suggested that you prepare yourself for meditating by simply observing the breathing in and out of the first Gift from God
the air we breathe. Knowing that the air or ether is indeed the chi of the universe should put you into a mystical mindset right from the start. I ask my students to breathe in the stars, the planets and the full potential of the Big Bang. To feel themselves part of the great beginning of all manifestation until they feel the swirl of wisdom and love within them. In this way, I set them up to believe in the retrieval of any information or insight they may require from their 20 minutes of contemplation. My goal for any period of meditation is to come back into my energized body full of love, insight and chakras blown open by my stay in the Milky Way!
Remember that the animal body falls into trance fastest through sheer boredom. We daydream in class when the subject being discussed does not capture our fancy or the red light simply takes too long to change to green, dont we? Therefore, let us put monotony into the litany we may use to induce a trance-state over our bodies. For instance we may say,
"My feet are growing tired. My feet are slowing down. My feet are sleeping."
Next we will travel up the body and say,
"My legs are growing tired. My legs are slowing down. My legs are sleeping."
And so on and so forth right up to the top of your crown. Within two days of playing with this meditation, I guarantee that eight times out of ten, you will be in the alpha-state before you can get to your thighs! Once we put the horse (body) to rest, the rider (spirit), can reign supreme.
Many students worry about the depth of their meditative wanderings and have expressed fear about such intensity of concentration. Will they be able to wake up in time if any emergency occurs? Or can they hear the alarm clock go off so they will not be late for work? Or, do they simply fall into sleep, never gaining the full alpha-state of consciousness? Meditation is an exercise of the higher self and therefore, knows all that is going on inside and outside of your body. For instance, once while meditating I received a vision of a truck coming at me. It missed me by a mile but, I still heard the kaboom when it crashed somewhere near to me. When I came out of the meditation, I realized that there was a great commotion going on outside of my bedroom window. While I was relaxing, a dump truck ran off the road and collided with the outside of my apartments wall, directly outside of my bedroom. Spirit had informed me of the trucks presence but, also let me know it was no danger to me
to continue my walk to its spiritual conclusion. Remember, your higher self will always be your Protector. Have no fear that you will be left unattended to be late, or to sleep when it was not your intention or miss out on golden opportunities to grow.
Experiment with programming your meditations by stating questions or intentions into your minds eye as you drift into the alpha-state. You may ask for guidance, increased vigor in the life or even ask to see the Face of God. Many who meditate describe "rooms" of power that they discover during quiet times. These places of spiritual wisdom and power may be visited time and time again once they have been revealed. I often liken them to what Jesus may have been referring to when He said, "In my Fathers House there are many mansions
"
Open up your inner life to greater joy, increased good health and compassionate insight by taking the time to contemplate the universe with your Higher Self. Create quality time with you in mind. You would never fail to brush your teeth at least twice a day, but, many have difficulty making time for the God Within. Remember, the door to the inner self is opened by sweet intention and the breath it takes to blow a feather.
