Astrologer's Notes:
Triumph or Tragedy –
A Look at Michael Jackson
by Basil Fearrington
As a musician, songwriter, producer, and longtime music business participant, Michael Jackson’s name draws nothing but respect and awe. His achievements in the business are mind-boggling. In an industry where there have been thousands of aspiring writers, entertainers and producers who have been unable to manifest a single recording, Michael has successfully sold hundreds of millions of records. The residuals from his one album, “Thriller,” could practically feed a small country. When you add to this that he also owns the rights to the songs recorded by the Beatles, Elvis, Sly & The Family Stone, Chuck Berry and others, you begin to get an idea of the scope of his prowess in the business, not just as a record-breaking entertainer but as a sharp businessman, as well. He is the Bill Gates of entertainers.

I am honest enough with myself to admit that my respect for Jackson’s achievements makes it difficult for me to see his present predicament in an objective light. I want him to be innocent. I want the allegations to be proven wrong because I have such profound respect for his accomplishments. But I can also remember the thoughts that went through my head as O.J. Simpson was handcuffed as he was questioned by the police. I thought, “They have got to be kidding. There is no way that O.J. Simpson could have committed this crime.” It seemed impossible at the time but now, not only does it seem possible but to the great majority of people, it seems probable, despite his acquittal. For this astrologer, it is much the same way with Michael Jackson right now. As unusual as he is and as many children as he surrounds himself with, it is still difficult for me to imagine that he is guilty of the alleged crimes against him but I hope that this essay reflects more objectivity than not.

At the time of this writing in the first days of April, the case against Michael Jackson is in the prosecution stage. Most of the news that comes out through the media suggests that Jackson is losing the case at every twist and turn. Other children who are said to have been molested have been brought in to testify, etc. By the time this essay is published, we will know more. Jackson’s attorney will have started and perhaps completed his presentation and the picture will be much clearer. In the meantime, we can take an astrological cruise through the world of Michael Jackson.

Understanding Michael – The Astrological DNA

The data that is being used for Michael’s horoscope is, August 29, 1958, 11:53 PM CDT, Gary, Indiana (please see the section on Jackson at www.BasilFearrington.com for an explanation of the data).

The first impression of Michael’s horoscope shows a lower hemisphere emphasis. This suggests that the theme of the horoscope will have to do with parental issues and events in his formative years of development that are unresolved in adult life. This first impression is immediately corroborated as follows: the Sun, ruler of IV, is conjoined by Pluto in IV; Mercury in IV is squared by Mars; Pluto is quindecile the Moon in the other parental House – X.

Saturn squares the Moon. And as is usually the case when the northern hemisphere is emphasized, we expect to find concerns in the horoscope that have to do with identity development, self-worth, relationships, and with the giving and receiving of love. This is not an astrological factor. It is a psychological reality of life. When parental concerns dominant the life early on in an unfulfilling manner, all of these factors of living tend to manifest. And we see it corroborated as follows: Mercury, ruler of the Ascendant (identity development) and V (giving love) is retrograde and is squared by Mars (co-ruler of XI, suggesting great tension with feeling lovable, attractive, etc.). All of this ties the delays and tensions in identity development to the giving and receiving of love. Michael Jackson’s identity is indelibly tied into sexuality if for no other reason, he will always now be remembered for the molestation charges against him. The Moon rules II and III (self-worth and the mindset) and is squared by Saturn. This is a depressive weight on the sense of worth and mindset that is tied into relationships, how he feels around others and upon his word view. It also suggests a quality of being emotionally manipulative. What’s more, Jupiter, ruler of VII, is conjoined by Neptune, suggesting that things are other than they seem regarding relationships. There is a great sense of idealism tied into relationships that makes them difficult (the Saturn factor tied into the idealism). This is also a very idealistic symbolism that is quite typical in the horoscopes of those who are of an idealistic or spiritual nature. Interestingly, this conjunction takes place in V. Take what you may from that and the association with children (always easy to do after the fact). Neptune rules XI! Even more corroborative – the Mars square to Venus (always suggests passion but can be problematically so because the way one needs to apply energy conflicts with the relational needs with a result that wrong relational choices are made) – ties in to the V- XI axis, again. All of these measurements suggest one simple potential reality – Michael Jackson’s formative years of development have created a foundation for much hurt and pain that have manifested in difficulties of identity worth, and regarding the intimate side of relationships.

Pluto’s conjunction to the Sun in IV indicates a focus of power needs that were perhaps covered over or usurped by a parent or that early home life. But the very, very key factor here is that the ever sensitive Moon in Pisces, receives a quindecile from Pluto! This is a tenacious, obsessive, unyielding energy in Piscean terms of sensitivity and idealism and more importantly, in the lunar terms of nurturing. These dimensions of Michael Jackson are dominant and play a direct role on how he sees himself in terms of self-worth and how he conceptualizes things-in-general via his daily mindset.

The midpoint picture, AP=Mer/Nep=Jup/Plu=Sun/Node suggests a projection of success, idealism, and powerful associations.

Stated simply, we see a powerful inner core projected to others through a sensitive and idealistic personality form that has all been shaped and molded tremendously through unresolved tensions within the formative years of development.

The Sexual Profile – Pedophilia?

Is Michael Jackson a pedophile? No astrologer can answer that question because there is no real signature or symbolism that tells us so. But there are certainly some things to talk about regarding the sexual profile in this horoscope.

We have already seen that Mercury is retrograde and is the ruler of the Ascendant and the 5th House. Again, this links the sexual profile with the identity. This is a fact of life for Jackson now and forever. Mercury’s retrogradation as ruler of the 5th House suggests that there are background considerations, secondary ideas and thoughts; even a second agenda in regards to the sexual profile. Mercury’s position in IV links it all, again, to the early home, again. Venus as co-ruler of V is conjoined by Uranus and is squared by Mars. This is normally an indication of assertion and a strong libido. BUT…..it is muzzled by, and operates within the cerebral bounds of the retrogradation of Mercury. What’s more, Saturn’s rulership of VIII and its square to the Moon suggests that sexual fulfillment with others is not easily fulfilling. In short, what we have here is a sexual profile that is assertively dominated and stimulated first and foremost by the mind. When we add the conjunction of Jupiter to Neptune in V (idealism), we introduce fantasy and even erotica. And all of this is echoed by the midpoint pictures, Mercury=Venus/Pluto and Pluto=Moon/Venus.

This is certainly an active sexual profile. It is not smooth or easily fulfilled but this kind of profile is hardly rare. What it tells us is that there are potential “issues” with sexuality. nothing more and nothing less.

The Trial

I was asked by astrologer Noel Tyl to write an essay on Michael Jackson that appeared on his web site in August, 2002. At that time, I wrote [projecting ahead to 2003], “…….however, things will not lighten up next year. Transiting Pluto conjunct Saturn, a symbol of tough, rough, hard, challenging times, begins in January 2003. This is quite ominous since Saturn rules VIII (monies owed to Jackson). This transit makes three “hits” in 2003, lasting the entire year.”

“We must look ahead particularly to Fall, 2003. The astrology suggests that things begin on an upswing with an apparent opportunity as tr. Jupiter conjoins Jackson’s Sun in September (tying in with the Pluto transit; see above). This happens under the umbrella of SA Neptune=Asc (exact in November) at the same time transiting Pluto makes its last conjunction with Saturn, followed by SA Sun=Mars/Saturn (December).” And, like clockwork, the molestation charges and subsequent problems began late in 2003. Neptune came from its position in the 5th House (children) to the 7th cusp. It is a near-perfect symbolism for a child-related scandal that comes to public notice.

Things have been quite difficult for Michael Jackson since that point in time late in 2003. There are few measurements in 2005 that suggest a lessening of that tension. In this month of May, the Ascendant arcs to square Neptune, an ego/identity-defeating measurement. It suggests confusion, loss, etc. This measurement is followed by a series of measurements spread throughout the year: SA Sun=Mer/Sat (the illumination of deep thought, perhaps in depression); transiting Saturn=Moon (feeling emotionally weighed down); SA Plu=Ven/Sat (extreme relational difficulties); SA Node=Sat/Plu (very, very difficult associations). SA ASC=Moon/Sat (more depression potential). These are tough measurements but they are not of the life-changing variety.

Horoscopes of children are reliable indicators of events that occur in the lives of their parents. Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. was born February 13, 1997 at 1:07 am PST in Los Angeles. His horoscope shows transiting Uranus crossing the Nadir this year! For a young child, this is an indication of a change that comes as a result of a parent. This could mean anything as Michael’s ex-wife has decided to try and gain custody. If she were to win the case, a relocation and parental change would be in order here. Or, this could have a bearing on the trial. If Michael Sr. was to go to jail, that, too, would fall under the symbolism of a decisive change.

Paris Katherine Jackson was born April 3, 1998 at 6:30 am PST in Los Angeles. Transiting Saturn has been conjunct her Nadir, an indication of a major structural change in life due to a parent. While both horoscopes clearly suggest a time of important development in the life of a parent, that is a far cry from imprisonment.

The Verdict

Psychic, Sylvia Browne has announced that Michael Jackson will go to jail. It is very difficult to find astrological corroboration of this as we expect to see strong activity involving the Angles by arc or transit. These measurements are not present.

The way we use astrology in court cases is to construct a horoscope for the moment the trial begins, that is, when the first attorney begins to present the case. The data for this trial is, March 1, 2005, 8:35 AM PST, Santa Barbara, California. The defendant is always represented by the 7th House and the prosecution by the 1st House. When you examine this horoscope, the results are inconclusive because the planetary rulership is the same for both sides.

This method works best when classical rulerships are utilized, that is, we use Mars as the ruler of Aries and Scorpio, Jupiter as the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, and Saturn as the ruler of Capricorn and Aquarius. The idea is to analyze the condition of the rulers of the Signs upon the cusp first. In this case, the prosecution is represented by Mars, exalted in Capricorn and elevated in the horoscope. This is a very, very strong position BUT, it is involved in a T-Square with Saturn and Jupiter. That suggests a difficulty proving their case.

When we flip the horoscope to look at Jackson’s defense, Venus is the primary ruler. It is well placed in Pisces but is slightly weakened because it is within the rays of the Sun. The Moon within the 7th House applies to a trine to Saturn. Based on these analysis, Jackson has an easier time winning than the prosecution. But, the same Mars that rules the prosecution is Jackson’s co-ruler and the same Venus that rules Jackson is the co-ruler of the prosecution. Is it a tie? Is it a hung jury?

When we look further, the Moon separates from a trine to the Sun and applies to the trine with Saturn. It is a part of a Grand Trine and one of the great significances with Grand Trines, as far as electional astrology is concerned, is tha the condition remains the same.

I think it is awfully hard to convict a celebrity beyond a shadow of a doubt. When the person is as prominent, wealthy, and successful as Michael Jackson has been, it is all too easy to conclude that there are financial motivations, etc. But again, right now, at the time of this writing early in April, the case against Michael Jackson does not appear to be in his favor as the media is reporting it so we will have to stay tuned. If we look at the trial horoscope as a sort of horary chart, it would be inconclusive because of the late degree of the Ascendant, which always suggests that more information is needed and that more information is forthcoming.

One thing is for sure, Michael Jackson is uncomfortable with the role that sexuality plays in the role of the average person. His mind is the driving force behind his libido and that mind has its own private theme that is well-based upon things that we may never know about from his early home development.

There is a saying that where there is smoke, there is fire. I certainly hope that the smoke of these allegations against Michael Jackson don’t lead to the fire of his guilt.
