Living Your Dream
Will Piss People Off
(If They're Not Living Theirs)

by David Ault
I rang the doorbell. With a boisterous enthusiasm, my friend John swung open the door and greeted me.
"This is it," he exclaimed!
I was in awe. I knew the entire story about his quest to purchase a home. He had labored for decades in sales and marketing jobs. He juxtaposed his rise in the career field with an equal diligence in his spiritual growth and had always been an inspiration to me when it came to walking the talk. Yet I identified with the sometimes daunting feelings one can conjure up from setting out to accomplish that kind of acquisition in Southern California. Philosophically, I understood that there is no degree of difficulty in attracting good to us if we can embody the reality of what we desire in our hearts and mind. But by my estimation, this was a Guiness Book of World Records manifestation.

John's home was a show place, photographed magazine pages brought to fully realized life. He ushered me from room to room, deriving so much joy from presenting to me the fruits of countless months of laboring that I could not help but be caught up in examining every detail and sharing his joy. Everything was meticulously designed, matched, coordinated. Implemented into the décor with conscious precision were top of the line gadgets and high tech wonders. With every turn and venture into more rooms, I finally found myself unable to contain my reactions. I let out audible gasps and shouts of childlike WOWS! This was pure, unadulterated mastery.

As we sat outside by his pool, we were able to get caught up on each other's lives and share stories of our recent activities. It was obvious his days had been heavily concentrated on the house, yet along with that, came some startling new discoveries.

His best friend of 20 years had decided that she could no longer be in his life. Watching him "revel" in his success had made her increasingly uncomfortable. How could he be so happy when she was stuck in a too-small house in the valley, going through a messy divorce and recuperating from the death of her mother?

"What are you talking about?" John had asked her. "Have I not been there for you through this process and supported you as much as you allowed? Have I not been there for your son, my godson - so that either of you wouldn't have to feel as though you were experiencing this alone?"

But John said she wasn't able or willing to hear it. She flatly told him that she thought he was being a "show off" and that she simply could not be around him anymore.

I know John. He is generous and kind and thoughtful. Nothing about him breeds arrogance. With suddenly saddened eyes he said to me, "Can you believe it? 20 years and then bye - done - that's it. I guess sometimes, if you live your dream it will piss people off if they're not living theirs. You can quote me on that."

So I have.

What a brilliant but sobering example of how we sometimes view others successes. Are we genuinely happy when another, be they stranger, acquaintance or friend, does well, achieves big, wins? If not, then how can we ever expect to invite into our experience the same thing?

Spiritual law dictates that what we focus on we get more of. If we focus on what we don't have or focus on the idea of competition then without fail we will produce more experiences of "not having" and see greater examples of others doing what we wished we could do. If we focus on the absurdity that there isn't enough to go around, then voila, that's the exact experience that will cross our daily doorstep.

All demonstrations take place within ourselves. There comes a point when we realize that unless we mentally encompass the idea of what we profess to want, embody the possibility of its delivery within our personal experience, then it simply isn't going to happen. All of the wishing and hoping won't ever bring it into realization if we don't first know it, if we don't provide that already-having-received attitude.

John knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would have such a home. He planned for it, invested, collected items for it, long before it materialized. His faith was unwavering. At the same time he celebrated the successes of all his friends, never faultering in his own knowing that the same was going to happen for him. Rather than be jealous of their wins, he let himself be inspired.

Metaphysician and author Ernest Holmes encouraged us in Creative Mind and Success to "Imagine yourself to be what you want to be. See only that which you desire, refuse even to think of the other. Stick to it. Never doubt. Say many times a day, "I am that thing." Realize what this means. It means that the great Universal power of Mind is that, and it cannot fail."

That process becomes so much easier to master by looking at the things that do work, the things that represent the desires of your heart and begin identifying with them. Instead of judging them, bless them and affirm, "Why not me?" Or, as Holmes wrote "I am that thing." Or, as one friend of mine adopted, "That has my name all over it!"
Open yourself to the possibility that if it can happen for another, it can certainly happen for you.

Author and fellow MetaArts columnist Eddie Conner devised a tremendous mindful exercise to usher in our individual expressions of good by using the concept of the child's game of tag - TAG those outward expressions by pouring forth ideas of Thanksgiving, Appreciation and Gratitude towards them. Know that they're IT and you're IT.

Hide It Under A Bushel ? No!

The children's song proclaims, "This little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine." Growing up, I remember singing that every Sunday in church and sometimes even in public school music classes. But an additional verse proclaimed, "Hide it under a bushel no! I'm gonna let it shine." There was always a great accent on the word no and usually some childlike choreography to go along.

Given this sage advice, how many of us still hold back in expressing our good for fear of offending others? How often do we abandon our ideas and starve our intentions due to self-imposed fears of what others will think or what others may do?

Hiding our good under a metaphoric bushel of secrecy will only escort us back to an experience of mediocrity. If the good is there, celebrate it. If the good is in the expectancy of your knowing, celebrate it as well.

We must become what we want. It's that simple.

We will never be able to do that while we still persist in seeing what we do not want or what we do not have, no matter where we see it. And, we cannot believe that something is possible for us without also believing the same for every individual.

To live our dream is to also encourage and invite others to do the same.I celebrate my friend John's ability to manifest and I allow myself to be equally inspired, equally as capable. The more we put this into practice, the more we elevate ourselves from such statements as I hope or even I believe to speaking a consistent declaration of
I know.
