Seeing the Big Picture In Prediction Work

Astrology is not fortune-telling! However, one of the key reasons why people consult astrologers is to gauge the potential of the future. While astrology doesn’t assess the future in exact, i-dotting, t-crossing fashion, we can certainly gauge the overall climate of the future using astrological symbols within the context of the reality of a person’s life and we do this through the use of key measurements.
Gauging the Future The Important Measurements
The things in life that change life are the most important. Yes, you might have had a bad day at work that causes you a headache. You might have been inconvenienced by the fact that your car has had to be serviced four times in two months. There are a number of things that happen to us in the course of living life but not all of them are life-significant. It is the life-significant factors that we want to be concerned about in astrology. Life-significant events are the one’s that make a decided impact on your life. Think back in your life to an event or occurrence that took place in which things were different afterwards than before. These are events like marriage, divorce, child birth, child loss, parental death, loss of career, gain in career, meeting someone who becomes a catalyst for essential change in your life, etc.
How do we see these important patterns ahead of time? First of all, it is important to dismiss a lot of the traditional thinking in astrology when it comes to gauging the climate of the future. In traditional thought, you run a list of, say, transit aspects and every single aspect is interpreted. We see much of this kind of an approach in the report writers that are sold by the astrology software companies of today where even the Moon’s daily aspects to natal planets are given paragraphs of description. This kind of work in prediction causes an extreme loss of focus because, again, not everything is life-significant.
So what are the measurements that have life-significant change potential?
* Transit conjunctions/squares of Saturn through Pluto to an Angle
* Hard aspect transits of Jupiter through Pluto to the Sun or Moon
* Solar Arcs of Jupiter through Pluto to an Angle
* Solar Arcs of Angles to planets
* SP Moon’s conjunction to an Angle
* SP Moon’s conjunction, square, or opposition to Saturn
* The Secondary Progressed New or Full Moon
* Hard aspect transits of Saturn to Pluto and vice-versa but especially Pluto contacts to Saturn by conjunction, square, or opposition.
You may wonder why I have specified the SP Moon’s quadrature relationship to Saturn and not with any of the other planets. It is because these times represent moments in development when one simply must do something to make things happen. For the average person involved in a career or job who is busy every day with life, the SP Moon-Saturn relationship typically represents a time of planning because personal needs and reality are operating at cross purposes. Or it could be that the needs of ambition are fully charged and push a person into action. This is because Saturn symbolizes the structure of life and the SP Moon is like a flashlight that shines on the symbolism of a particular planet’s energy. Whatever the case may be, the quadrature relationship between the SP Moon and Saturn is of vital importance when gauging the future.
You will also notice that I have dismissed the sextile and trine. The reason why is that these aspects are weak, ineffective and they support the status quo of what is as opposed to reflecting the kind of changes that impact a life.
Back to Michael Jackson
I have written extensively about Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958; 11:53 pm CDT, Gary, Indiana) both here and on my web site, as well as on Noel Tyl’s web site. On every occurrence, the astrology has depicted ahead of time what the overall climate of Michael’s life would be in the future.
In review, I was asked to write an essay on Michael that appeared on the web site of Noel Tyl back in August, 2002. At that time, I looked ahead in time to the late Fall/early Winter time period of 2003. I saw a very grievous team of measurements in SA Neptune conjoining the Descendant, triggered by the most difficult transit of all transits: Pluto to Saturn. They were both exact in November, 2003. As astrological measurements go, the potential of difficulty just doesn’t get more challenging than is the case with these two measurements together. In that essay at that time, I wrote about the climate ahead. It is important to note that I had no idea whatsoever of what might take place specifically but the astrology strongly suggested a time of difficulty and challenge related to that which could be difficult and challenging in his life.. As it turns out, Neptune came out of Michael’s 5th House to cross the Descendant when he was charged for child molestation.
In the May 2005 column here (see the archives of this web site), I wrote down my thoughts on whether or not Michael would be imprisoned. As I looked ahead at all of it last year, I saw nothing at all of a life-significant nature and I did not realize that there were ten counts against him. My focus was on whether or not he would be imprisoned, period.
The transit opposition of Uranus to Michael’s Sun as the trial began was a bit startling because it is such a strong, jarring aspect. But as was the case with O.J. Simpson, who had SA Sun=Ura/Plu as his trial winded down, I saw the aspect as liberating, not confining. After all, that is the essence of the Uranian symbolism. Otherwise, there was nothing of an ominous life-significant level shown astrologically. Everything supported the present reality. There was nothing there that suggested a major change in his life.
What Happens to Michael Now?
Now that Michael has been acquitted, questions abound about his future. I happen to know that Michael was in the studio recording just before the trial and even once the trial began so it is highly probable that there will be another Michael Jackson record release at some point. The question becomes one of, “When?” To answer that question, you simply look ahead to the time of major astrological aspects and that pinpoints the period of time when big things are likely to occur. I emphasize “big things” because this is Michael Jackson we are talking about and not a security guard at Walmart (if Michael lived a more mundane existence, the aspects would have to be analyzed in terms of what’s possible within his life development).
As we look forward to gauge the climate of Michael Jackson’s life, the astrology shows nothing of major significance for the remainder of 2005. In my opinion, he will pretty much lay low for the remainder of this year.
Moving ahead to 2006, the first thing of significance is the SP Moon’s passage over the Descendant (March, 2006) enroute to a conjunction to Saturn (May). For someone like Michael, this is big. These measurements suggest an emergence of some kind with the planning that goes into it. The period between January September (leading into and out of the SP Moon’s conjunction to Saturn) will be of vital importance, especially since it leads into the transit of Saturn over the Nadir at the end of 2006. It is important to note here that the sheet of paper that I am looking at for 2006 has a lot of aspects on it but I have focused only on the aforementioned aspects involving the SP Moon and transiting Saturn. So instead of focusing on everything that’s there, you get the “movers and shakers” and that’s where the meat and potatoes of analysis takes place in anyone’s life when you are doing prediction work.
Looking even further down the line into 2007, the transit of Saturn continues to hover around Michael’s Nadir (major change of life structure a major ending and beginning) and it is joined by transiting Uranus’ square to the Ascendant and conjunction to the Moon. There can be little question that Michael Jackson’s life will take on a new meaning and presentation at this time, initiated by the activity in 2006 with the SP Moon. We should get the first glimpses of what is to come from Michael Jackson in 2006 with a big explosion in 2007.
Tom and Katie
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have replaced Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez as the couple whose relationship presentation on the media most irritates the public! Nevertheless, many astrologers have been intrigued by what’s happened because Cruise has acted so out of character during the courtship that led to the marriage proposal.
The best data that we have on Tom Cruise is July 3, 1962 at 3:06 PM in Syracuse, New York. Katie Holmes was born December 18, 1978 at 9:32 PM EST in Toledo, Ohio.

The two main questions surrounding this couple, as far as astrologers are concerned, is, “What’s going on in Tom’s horoscope to reflect what’s happened?” “Is this a relationship that is likely to last?” “Why is Cruise acting so out of character? To answer the first question, print out a list of the transits, Solar Arcs, and Secondary Progressed Moon measurements in search of any of the “big guns” that I listed earlier in this essay. For starters, we find transiting Jupiter squaring Cruise’s Sun. It is significant here that the SP Moon was almost in exact opposition to Venus when the media onslaught about this relationship began. Most importantly, there is a SP Full Moon! This is almost always a life-significant time for anyone who is busy and active in the world. Additionally, the sobering transit of Saturn to his Moon occurs this month, to be followed by Saturn’s transit of the Midheaven and its opposition to its own position. It is also important to note the transit of Uranus opposing Pluto because Pluto is the ruler of Cruise’s horoscope, thus the out of character behavior that has been expressed on various talk shows and media presentations.

As lovely as all of these measurements are, one begins to wonder about the climate ahead in 2006. One of the important characteristics of a Uranus transit or arc when associated with the Ascendant or its ruler is that things are exaggerated. Things tend to become over-emphasized and made out to be more than they really are. Reality knocks on the door later on and that time might be as soon as 2006 for the following reasons. Venus is the significator of Cruise’s 7th House. Venus will be opposed by Neptune and conjoined by Saturn! At the same time, Katie’s horoscope will have transiting Saturn squaring Venus and conjoining the Moon; transiting Pluto square the Moon and transiting Neptune opposing the Moon. And it all leads into transiting Saturn upon the Ascendant with transiting Pluto conjoining the Sun! What’s suggested here is the establishment of a new standard through relational upset that leads to a complete change of identity and a focus upon a changed perspective. These are demanding measurements and they all precede the transit square of Saturn to Katie’s 7th House ruler Uranus. And for Cruise, the suggestion is an awakening to reality through relationship challenges.
If the Cruise/Holmes relationship makes it to the point of marriage, the suggestion is that the relationship undergoes pretty severe tests early on or that it fails and breaks up. Big surprise, right?!
Important Points
1.Prediction work becomes real focused when you eliminate every aspect you can find and focus on the big, life-changing measurements.
2. It is not the astrologer’s place to predict particular events with specificity.
3. Prediction work should always be done from the perspective of the life being lived by the person in question and not from the perspective of what an astrologer said in a book about a particular aspect. For example, if a drug dealer is about to experience a transit or arc to the Midheaven, he or she is likely to pay the price for the illegal activity. The same thing can occur in the horoscope of someone who uses Neptunian energy as a vocation to suggest a time of prominence in Neptunian terms.
4. Every aspect is not significant. In fact, a great deal of aspects pass by unnoticed in terms of reflecting any real activity in one’s life. For example, transiting Venus sextile Mercury will probably pass by unnoticed. Transiting Mars trine the Moon will probably pass by unnoticed. But especially in the lives of people who are busy and active, a transit or arc of Pluto to the Ascendant or Sun will not pass by without the reflection of a parallel event in that person’s reality. The farther the planet is from the Sun, the greater an impact its potential to reflect powerful, significant changes are in life.
Prediction work must be practical and always, always must be used within the perspective of the person’s life. The only thing that can happen is what can happen.
