During the winter season it is important to keep the water element in the body fluid and moving. Stagnation of the water element in the winter causes flus and colds during the spring as the water element thaws.
Keeping the water element fluid all year round prevents the build up of toxins in the body and can help to prevent problems in the urinary system, lymphatic system and immune system.
One of the best herbs given to humanity for this purpose is Ginger! It is very common, easy to find and inexpensive.
Ginger is beneficial in many ways:
Prevents and cures cold and sore throat
Improves digestion
Promotes regularity
Regulates digestive fire
Reduces congestion
Keeps mucus thin and light
Increases metabolism
Freshens breath
Releases toxins
Clears the complexion
Clears infections and lesions
In order to keep ourselves healthy it is suggested that we eat ginger daily. A 1/2 inch peice of ginger can be eaten in the morning and night to keep the body running smoothly. This will keep the metabolism high and will prevent the build up of toxins in the body by promoting regularity and strong digestion.
Ginger can be used theraputically as well. At the first onset of a cold or flu or soar throat grate one inch of ginger and mix with honey. Take twice a day and the cold or flu usuually does not establish itself.
It is suggested that women who have just given birth eat ginger or drinkginger tea to protect or enhance their immune system and enhance the immune system of their nursing babies.
The digestive fire is also weaker after delivery so regular intake of ginger helps to re-establish digestive fire and keep breast milk clear andhealthy.
Ginger can also be used in baking, taken as a tea or aded to soups, stews, stir fries or rice.
With Christmas just around the corner, our big eating season is upon us, why not cook some gingerbread cookies, Or better yet, keep some ginger candy around the house to promote digestion of all the rich foods that are going to be consumed.
Ginger taken after meals in raw form or in the crystal candy form really promotes digestion and prevents gas, bloating and heaviness.
