The Journey Is Our Home

by Jacquelyn Small
This is an excerpt from her newest book, due in bookstores September, 2005, entitled The Sacred Purpose of Being Human

"People are used to thinking that anything higher than they has to be divine beings ? that is, without a body ? who appear in a burst of light. In other words, the gods as they are conceived. But it isn’?t like that at all ? a new mind is being formed. And the body is learning its lessons ? all bodies, all bodies."

-- The Mother

Many people today believe we are to reject our humanness in order to be spiritual -- to just rise above this worldly life entirely and dissolve into light. There are spiritual paths that teach us to work hard to leave our bodies so we can be "just spiritual." This is a dangerous misunderstanding that takes us in exactly the opposite direction for Spirit to manifest in concrete form. We already are the light. We’re here now to embody Spirit, to bring our God-nature fully into human form and into this physical existence. Trying to rise up and out of our human nature, as though it is bad or wrong, is a blasphemy of our Creator God. It violates humanity’s sacred purpose for coming to Earth. It says we are God’s mistake!

Our Creator spiritualizes matter. As God’s offspring, we are here to materialize Spirit. We are God’s co-creators who incarnated, not to leave the human kingdom still half-made, but to complete it. Being fully human is therefore the most sacred act we can ever do. And what a mystery that is. We still have no idea what we’ll be once the human kingdom is perfected in nature. Perhaps this is when we’ll bring heaven to Earth. What a blessing to be participating in such a cosmic event!

Instead of concentrating on leaving life, we are called to live life to its fullest while here in human bodies. And as we travel along and learn, the bad, the good, the right, the wrong, all dualities become that "third and higher thing," the oneness that incorporates and heals all the splits within us. Then, through this deep psychospiritual inner work, transcendence happens naturally, with nothing left unintegrated.

As consciousness, we are the evolutionary process itself. And since we are infinite, eternal beings, the journey is never-ending, so there is no place to “arrive." The journey itself is our home. It’s where we live and move and have our being. Currently, there is a dual transformation occurring here on planet Earth. Both the body and the consciousness of humanity are moving up a notch on the evolutionary ladder. This means that the human cellular structure as well as our minds and hearts are literally changing form. And we ourselves are the new creation.

Your sacred purpose is the same as it is for everyone who lives in a human body: We are all to fully engage in our humanness, and bring Spirit’s ways to every part of this human life. Materializing Spirit is your true calling. Once we complete the human experience, we’ll be beginners all over again, participating fully in what comes next. Following this amazing mystery of creation is the most exhilarating adventure in consciousness we could ever imagine. Who could dream up a greater "high?"

Through this, our own creation story, we are growing into a new Self, one who is capable of adapting to the new conditions here. And the new keynote for humanity, if our species-type is to survive, must be “unity in diversity." It enables us to keep our individual uniqueness, while remembering that we are one. Ponder these three words, and you’ll see that living by this all-inclusive maxim will not only heal us, it will heal our world, and end all wars.

By becoming your new Self, you are aiding in the one Soul of Humanity’s sacred initiation. This is "the Great Opus" of human unfoldment the alchemists of old spoke of. Living your ordinary life with this sense of high purpose expands your consciousness and enables you to more readily release any dysfunctional behaviors that are blocking your growth. As a planetary worker in service to your Creator, why would you ever want to live as less than you are? As you travel your journey, you are not just building new skills at living; you are transforming yourself into a whole new being.

Never get caught up, though, in attempting to arrive. For, no matter where you find yourself at any given time, there is no place to go, there is only someone to be.
