Medical Intuition- Tune in to Your Body and Improve Your Health:
Book Excerpt from:

"The Body Knows" - ask a medical intuitive

by Caroline Sutherland
Dear Caroline,
For the past 2 years, I have suffered from extreme chemical sensitivities. If someone is wearing perfume, I have to leave the room. Gas fumes, fresh paint gives me a terrible headache. Do you have any suggestions to combat this problem?
Marilyn H., Denver Colorado

Dear Marilyn,
In this fast-paced, chemical ridden world in which we live, you are not alone. Chemical sensitivities are a sign of a weak immune system. The body is now over-loaded due to stress and it is starting to react to the environment - food, chemicals, airborne inhalants etc.

My background for 20 years has been in Environmental Medicine and I have had the fascinating experience of witnessing first-hand, thousands of people with chemical sensitivities, and their response to practical strategies and alternative treatments.

Behind this oversensitive system that you are coping with, lies your stress.
Take a moment to evaluate your stress level and what it is related to. Are you over-taxed, over-worked, not being paid enough or valued enough?

Start with yourself and your own value. Ask yourself the question - If I valued myself I would___________blank.

If I valued myself I would not__________________blank.

Honestly ask yourself if it is really serving you to continue with this level of stress, fill in these blanks and then make some changes. Meditation is so deeply healing and soothing - it can also be insightful too. As we have heard so many times "the answer to all of life's questions lies within." In meditation let your inner guidance reveal these answers to you. I have an excellent meditation tape/CD called "Meditation and Music" (available online) which is especially useful for first-time meditators or people who have trouble holding their focus in meditation.

On the physical level, it is time to take the pressure off the immune system. Remove all toxic chemicals from your home environment - scents, perfumes, room sprays, scented laundry soaps - the works. Create a healing environment where you can rest and restore deeply. Follow the guidelines in my book "The Body Knows" for a detailed chapter on the subject of chemical sensitivities.

Now remove caffeine, alcohol and sugar from the diet. Wheat and dairy products, which are high allergens, can further tax the immune system. After a few weeks of an offending food avoidance program and minimal exposure to environmental toxins, you should be feeling much better. Look for foods that are organic, hormone and pesticide free. Build up your body with supplements and herbs.

I also find that a candida yeast eradication program can be very helpful. If a person has an overgrowth of candida, they can often be highly chemically sensitive because the presence of this yeast affects not only the endocrine system, but the immune system too. Consider your quest for good health an exciting adventure. Your body knows - remember that it has a phenomenal capacity to repair.

Dear Caroline,
I seem to have had a life full of anger. I had very domineering parents, siblings and then to top that off, I married a man who constantly undermined me at every level.
Now at the age of 50 I have manifested liver cancer. I know I have to work at this deep primal emotion and free myself. I am reaching out and am willing to do anything - I would be most grateful for some intuitive guidelines in this process.
Rheanne K. London, England

DBless your heart. What an ordeal. I commend you for wanting to get to the root of all your emotions of anger - and no doubt you will do it.
In my opinion, a diagnosis of cancer does not signify a death knell but a call to focus on recovery and transformation.
Let's get to work.

The liver is the seat of anger in Chinese Medicine. The liver is a large organ located just beneath the right breast. Begin by massaging the liver - it may be tender at first but as you continue to massage this part of the body twice a day the tenderness subsides.

Take a look at your diet - sodas, chemicals from processed foods, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, tobacco as well as prescription drugs and environmental pollutants all create a residue which can be stored in the liver.

In the case of cancer I recommend that people stop consuming caffeine, dairy products and sugar. This can take the pressure not only off the liver but the lymphatic system as well while the immune system gets a chance to recover. Eat well, eat small frequent meals and eat lots of veggies with each meal. That's the dietary piece.

Next, I suggest that you do some liver detox work. Milk Thistle is a well-known liver detox herb. I would also recommend acupuncture. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine would really be helpful in detoxing and supporting the liver. Now let's get to the root of the problem. It is time to free yourself from the negative programming of your past. Apparently, according to metaphysical teachings, we choose our parents…..

This is a hard concept to grasp, but thinking about this means that we draw people and experiences to us to teach the lessons we need to learn. So we do have a part in attracting these people into our lives. This makes it easier to forgive.

For the past 20 years I have made a point of not having negative, unsupportive people in my life. I only surround myself with people who share my interests and support my endeavors, as I do theirs. My mother was "a piece of work." Interesting how she has been the perfect "teacher" for me. While she was alive, I did not subject myself to long arduous visits with her. I kept them short - usually centered around an activity like a movie or a swim. She was my mother, I needed to see her but I "touched down lightly" and then after these short and infrequent visits, carried on with my life.

Releasing anger through breathwork, physical activity, throwing plates or punching pillows can all be useful. Go for counseling.

Ultimately our anger needs to be channeled in a positive direction. Meditate on your higher purpose, the reason for your life on earth and then surrender to the deep transformational process of bringing this about. Then you will see that everything is a gift regardless of what it looks like. Blessings to you.
