Fall, a Time of Transition

These are the qualities of the air element,
These are also the qualities of the fall season.
The leaves and grass become dry just as our hair and skin become dry.


The climate becomes cooler and so too our body slowly starts to cool. This can be notice very much in the morning when we wake up and notice that we have sinus congestion. This is due to the freezing of the earth and water elements.


The climate may be warm in the afternoon, but the morning and evenings

With fewer leaves and flowers the rougher surfaces of plants and earth are exposed. Skin becomes rougher, chapped.


The subtle shift from summer to winter causes many changes in the body.


To combat these qualities and to prevent imbalance we need to counter them with opposite qualities.

Moist
Warn
Stable
Smooth
Apparent

We must eat foods that are moist and soothing, avoiding dry foods like crackers, chips and dry bread. Stews, puddings and plenty of fluid are appropriate for the fall.


We must wear warm clothes, eat foods that are cooked and warm rather than raw and spend time in front of a fire place or in a steam room!


The fall is a time when many people feel out of their element. I t is a time when emotions tend to fluctuate along with the weather! Fall is a good time to take part in activities of togetherness and to create stability in one’s life.


Massaging the body with oil, gently transitioning from one way of life to another and pampering oneself all help to reduce roughness during the fall.


Journaling during the fall helps to cleanse the emotions. Doing journaling during the fall helps one achieve closure on emotional issues before the stagnating time of winter. If one does not deal with emotional matters in the fall they will erupt from their hibernation in the spring. Taking care of subtle health problems in the fall is also necessary so that they do not increase over the winter and erupt in the spring. Deal with all matters int eh fall to forgo difficulties in the spring season.


Fall in general is a time of transition. We must make sure to take extra care of our health in the fall in order to keep ourselves in balance year round. Fall is the time of year when the body and mind start to wind down but it is also the time of year when the body and mind try to resolve any imbalances. Performing a gentle cleanse along with journaling and proper diet and massage can help one with the transitions they ar making and keep one healthy year round.
