Tune Into Yourself Before Turning on the Television
In this issue of the Hollywood BUT Doctor I’m spotlighting “feel good” television. Today, it seems that everywhere we look in the media, things are getting scarier. We’re bombarded with frightening images of war, deadly storms, floods, earthquakes, a bird flu epidemic and global terrorist attacks. And that’s not the worst. Between the news footage, many commercials showcase our dandruff, acne, huge waistlines, and stained teeth while showing dandruff free, clear-skin models with pearly white teeth eating fast food and a gallon of ice cream. Did I mention that the models weigh 24 pounds and have a size 16 waistline? Oh yes, that’s believable.
Over the ten years that I’ve lived in Los Angeles, I’ve met many heads of networks and big-wigs in the entertainment industry I’ve heard many of them say, “There are only two types of programming that our viewers respond to; they are, salt and sugar.” It turns out that salty TV is the blood, guts and gore programming while the sugary content is subtle nudity, soft erotica, and sexually.
I’ve had incredible conversations with the decision makers in TV land. My opinion has steadily been that viewers just want to feel good again. We want to learn, be educated with humor, and we want to watch pleasant things that make us feel hopeful and filled with heart and soul. With every “feel good” soapbox I stand on the rebuttal is, “Eddie, chances are that you won’t see feel good TV in your life time.”
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all kinds of shows. I like the racy, suspenseful shows as much as the next person. I enjoy comedies, dramas and especially documentaries. I get teary eyed watching Hallmark® commercials and my favorite childhood advertisement was the famous, “I’d like to teach the world to sing,” Coco-Cola® jingle. The first time I saw that commercial I got goose bumps. Which again, proves my observation that even a 20 second commercial can uplift, heal, and change our vibration.
If a commercial can spread that much light and power in twenty seconds, imagine what a half hour TV show would do to raise our nation’s frequency. Hello, is anyone at the networks listening?
I am thrilled to answer that question with a resounding yes! Someone out there is listening, which also means that great people like you are sending out pure thoughts and prayers to the universe and the our prayers are being answered ten fold.
Have you noticed in the last two years of fall line ups that most of the new programming includes the supernatural, occult, God, past lives, ghost, dead people and the afterlife, to name a few! That’s exciting!
Our High Frequency Speaks Louder Than Words
Our desire for alternative programming is energetically reaching network executives, and therefore more spiritual, alternative thinkers are putting on their executive producer hats. While watching Jennifer Love Hewitt’s new show, Ghost Whisperer I learned that renowned psychic medium, James Van Praagh and famous author, John Gray of “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” were executive producers of the show!
It’s a marvelous time that we live in when programs like the Ellen DeGeneres Show (love her), Amy Grant's Three Wishes, and Ty Pennington’s Extreme Home Makeover are leading the ratings charts in America.
Sincerely, it all comes back to our desire as a nation to feel good again. As I said in my book, Kicking the BIG BUT Syndrome, “Feeling good is hugely under rated and hardly seen as a genuinely powerful human attribute.” To feel good means to eliminate fear, vulnerability, and prejudice. It opens us up to our whole, soul-self. Goodness allows us be in the flow, to stand in the energy that creates worlds, and to be a great contributor to wellness. What an enormous gift that is.
Imagine the essence of making one person feel good. Think of a moment when you did something kind for a complete stranger. Now, focus on the amount of exponential waves of wellness that can surround our planet in one tiny, feel good commercial or one thirty minute television show. That is pure positive power, and we have the inner strength and power to create that manifestation.
Because feeling good is a high frequency attribute activating our prosperity consciousness, it’s more important than ever that we hone in on feeling good so that we stand in our power. Standing in our power today teaches others how to stand in their power, and the ripple effect vibrates outward to all people.
Of course choice is also the key. It’s equally important that we focus on what makes us, as individuals feel great. With all of the amazing choices of programming to pick in the wide world of television programming, it’s our responsibility to pick wisely. I pick things that speak to my heart and whisper to my soul. From AT&T® commercials to Walton’s Mountain in the 1970’s, certain programs have always spoken to me on a rich, deep level. Ask yourself, what programming speaks to you?
Television OF THE MONTH: The Ellen Degeneres Show
When I think of high frequency programming today, two words come to mind. Ellen DeGeneres! I adore Ellen’s show because she employs many BUT Blasters the nation desperately needs. Everything that Ellen does is bona fide, feel good TV.
The moment Ellen begins her show, her contagious smile sets the tone for millions of viewers. A true BUT Blaster performer is someone that touches every demographic, culture and age without offending anyone along the way.
Whether or not she begins with her famous bird call, “Kaaaaah, kaaaaaah”, she always, without exception thanks her audience, does a comedic monologue and plays kick-BUT music while she and the audience dance their BUTS off to her tone setting show.
If you want to catch her show check your local NBC listings. In Los Angeles her show airs at 4:00 PM PST. Tune in and laugh your way into enlightenment.
VOCALIST OF THE MONTH: Melissa Etheridge
When reporter Johanna Schneller interviewed Melissa Etheridge for LIFE America’s Weekend Magazine, she asked Melissa these questions,
So what is post-cancer Melissa like? Did it change you?
“I feel I got answers. I look at my cancer as a gift. It was the scariest, most difficult thing I’ve gone through in my life. I don’t want to do it again. BUT I don’t have those ‘What is the meaning of life?’ questions anymore. Chemotherapy is the closest to death you ever want to go. There was so much pain that the only way out was to be completely still. I got to a point where it was like a meditation. I started to just listen to my breath and clear my head. By letting all the noises and stresses of life go far away, I think I found the meaning of life.”
Which is?
“It’s what everyone’s been telling us, it’s every cliché : We are all one. Treat others as you want them to treat you, and love one another. I found a sense of peace in that. So I know that when this body finally does go, I exist. I don’t want to leave this reality; I love my family. BUT I no longer fear death.”
Celebrity BUT Quote of the Month “BUT Quote’s” of the
“It is not lack of attention to television that has made politicians clueless, BUT lack of attention to the poor, a failing that television generally shares.”
