To The Degree

After decades of study, searching and meticulous questioning as to how to be happy, how to live well, how to move into that space where true joy resides, I feel that I have finally arrived at my answers doorstep and consciously stepped across its threshold. All I’ve ever longed for was resting in the semblance of one simple phrase.
That phrase is --- to the degree.
Everything (and I do mean everything) that we seek answers for in regards to why our lives, our world are the way they are can be found in those spiritually orchestrated words.
To the degree that we believe in anything, is the degree in which that belief out pictures/demonstrates itself in our world. We can believe in an expectancy of good or hold allegiance to an expectancy of doom and gloom. We can believe that our lives can and do work or believe that we are held hostage to a system that controls, weakens and shackles us in positions of powerlessness. We can believe that miracles are natural and that life is held in Divine Order or believe that an illusional power called luck might befall us every once in a while and that some guy named Murphy has a better law than God.
To the degree that we fall prey to the opinions of others, losing sight of our individual style and unique expression is the degree in which our soul’s expression becomes diminished to cookie cutter mediocrity.
The old joke tells it perfectly. Worried that their son was too optimistic, the parents of a little boy took him to a psychiatrist. Trying to dampen the boy’s spirits, the psychiatrist showed him into a room piled high with nothing but horse manure. Yet instead of displaying distaste, the little boy clambered to the top of the pile, dropped to all fours, and began digging.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the psychiatrist asked.
“With all this manure,” the little boy replied, beaming, “there must be a pony in here somewhere.”
Having an expectancy of good in everything can’t help but usher that sense of good into our lives.
To the degree is the pot of gold, the mother lode, the treasure that each of us as human beings have been searching for since the day we consciously chose to incarnate into this earthly body. It feels comparative to searching the world - climbing mountains to sit at the feet of gurus and holy men only to discover that the answer has simply resided in our own backyard. For me, it is the most basic and concise way of explaining spiritual law, cause and effect, how thoughts create our conditions that one can find.
For example, to the degree that I choose to hug my troubles (i.e. continually talking about the ills of the world, blaming politicians, doctors, family or partners for why I am in an undesirable situation) is the degree in which more troubles will continue to partner with me in a never ending dance of futility. On the positive side, to the degree that I choose to believe that everything is working in my favor is the degree in which everything in my life will shine with an undeniable luster.
Half-hearted beliefs equal half-hearted results. Total embodiment of success equals total successful demonstrations .
Knowing that it works either way, according to our choosing, why not immediately adopt the following as a personal creed and let the undeniable beauty of life begin.
To the degree that I believe that only love is real and that it surrounds and cradles me is the degree in which that love will surface and make its way into all of my experiences. As I return to an attitude of knowing that this love is always available then love will be my constant companion.
To the degree that I believe that my immediate world and global world are inherently safe and welcoming is the degree in which that safety and welcoming will roll its welcome mat out for me to travel on. As I focus on this sense of safety and comfort then the embodiment that “all is well” truly does play itself out in my life regardless of what else may be happening in the outside world.
To the degree that I believe that there is a power for good and that I may access it at any time is the degree in which that power for good will rise and shine over all my affairs and produce sustaining harmony. As I introduce myself to good then good instantly becomes my life’s companion.
To the degree that I believe that wellness and optimum health are possible is the degree in which wellness will demonstrate within my physical body. As I return to the knowing that there is no order of difficulty in miracles, then “miracles” in my physical body become an ordinary occurrence.
To the degree that I believe that the economy will be stable and thriving is the degree in which all of my economic activities will be on a perpetual upswing. As I focus on what is working and how life’s road has brought me to a deeper awareness of how precious each day is, more of what is good, harmonious and blessed will grow in my life’s garden.
To the degree that I believe that I deserve to make a wonderful living doing what I love, is the degree in which I will be handsomely compensated for my creative expressions. As I trust the inner voice that faithfully beckons me to honor that creativity, so will that same trust guide me to the right and perfect avenues of support.
To the degree that I believe that there is more than enough time, more than enough resources, more than enough intimacy is the degree in which this expression of plenty will continue to be my immediate experience. As I continue to affirm this and speak only of this, then this inexhaustible supply will be my life’s resource.
To the degree that I believe I deserve respect and dignity is the degree is which the world will hold me in high regard. As I allow my eyes to see the embodiment of dignity in the mirror before me, then respect greets and embraces me wherever I go.
To the degree that I believe that being teachable is an exciting adventure, is the degree in which the avenue of learning will be exactly that – an exciting adventure. As I set about determining what my interests and passions are, I meet them with an already-having-achieved attitude.
To the degree that I look past societal mores and know that at any age I can do anything, is the degree in which the doorways of opportunity will continue to open for me. As I bless my path and stay committed to the ever expanding road of consciousness, then the sky will always be the limit.
To the degree that I trust my intuition and faithfully follow its urgings, is the degree in which my intuition will never fail to lead me to the right and perfect situations and people. As I honor that still small voice inside, I relax into the mystery of life and fully trust my self-honoring choices.
To the degree that I acknowledge and validate myself is the degree in which others will begin to acknowledge and validate my positive qualities. As I discontinue looking for that validation outside of my own being, I experience the powerful, liberating feeling of self-love.
