Hurricane Katrina and the Tale of the Two Gulfs

by Dr. Gwen MacGregor
"Ask to die to the old dream of the planet. Prepare to leave hell. Begin to imagine heaven on earth."

Mary Carroll Nelson from "Toltec Prophecies of Don Miguel Ruiz"

Yes, we all are prepared, as a Nation, to leave the hell of the last year behind…especially the past month. As I write this article several days before the 4th anniversary of the 911 Disaster, I remember again how God warned me of Its’ advance. I was driving to Philadelphia for a workshop and saw across my inner vision a picture of Paul Revere riding through the night to reach the bell tower of the Old North Church. Silly me, I imagined my inner self was prompting me to visit Boston sometime soon! Within seconds I received another vision. I saw George Washington stealing across the Delaware River in a boat with his brave men, desperate to surprise the British troops bivouacked at Valley Forge. The images conjured up an enemy on U.S. soil. I was too busy thinking of my seminar to come, to work out what God was showing me that day. Oh, a tower. Oh, up north. Oh, a surprise attack right in front of our symbol of liberty. Of course it made perfect sense on September 11th, 2001.

So, here I was again on my way to Philadelphia, city of friendship and freedom, on the day Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf states, when I was bombarded by a song coming at me over my CD player. It is an old favorite of mine performed by Tina Turner. The song started just as I passed the Virgin Mary marker on 95 North - Our Lady of the Highway. It is a landmark I always notice and see as a site of protection. You probably know what song I am referring to. It is the theme song from the movie, Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome, (Warner Films - George Miller, Producer, July, 1985), "We Don’t Need Another Hero." My whole being started to shake. I kept hearing Thunderdome, over and over in the song. I knew something was up but, did not connect it with New Orleans or Houston.

In the song Tina sings, "We don’t need another hero…we just need to know the way home." She also sings later in the song, "We are the children, last generation. We are the ones they left behind…Love and compassion, that day is dawning…why else are castles built in the air? And, I wonder if we ever are going home?" Her words just kept hitting me and I wanted to cry. And once again, I was brought back to the moment by a need to prepare my mind for my workshop and subsequent readings.

In the movie "Thunderdome," Mel Gibson plays an anti-hero who saves the last generation of children by defeating the old system of weights and balances. He also loses everything he owns and has to battle a monster called "Blaster," in the film. While it is a rough movie at best, its theme is aimed at the ignorance of violence, the fear of shortage of food, water and safety as well as a commentary about how society treats its people, especially the children. The movie takes place in an area that has survived a major catastrophe and shows how civilization carries on. I know that realizing the message of the movie in time would not have allowed me to get FEMA or the Red Cross or the US Government moving faster to help the weak, dying and bewildered folks in the Gulf. I also know the message was specifically telling me, we must learn to heal and be healed, to be truly compassionate to ourselves and others and that the way of the anti-hero might be the way to go, in the future.

It is our Indigo Children without and within ourselves that may be a solution to what ails us. This aspect of God is closely associated with the healing energy of Raphael, the quiet but indomitable wisdom of Mary Magdalene, the Queen of Sheba or to Joan of Arc - remember her Orlean’s connection? It speaks to our need to find balance within our male and female sources of strength. The use of water to purify and cleanse areas of the Earth is not new to Mother Nature or the Godhead. How interesting that the name Katrina, derived from the original meaning of Katherine, means "purity?" The Mother God uses water to purify. The Father God, fire.

It seems that both aspects of the deity are being used in either "Gulf" disaster we are experiencing? Can we look for higher meaning and a better resolve to become the solution of the world now? Can we separate ourselves from the "problem" and become one with the healing aspects of the Godhead that might be called at this time, Mercy and Compassion?

We heard many of the foreign press in the past month comment about how the "World’s Policeman," the United States, was not able to police or rescue itself in time of tragedy. That when the going got tough, the tough slowed down. I suggest we have studied the role of protector and found it wanting in the beginning of this New Age of Healing? And like Mel Gibson in Thunderdome, it might be the time to tap our anti-heroes for the perceptive and passionate responses we need.

I find as we leave this last Age of Michael, our Protector-Angel for about 500 years now, that a "Michael" should be the head of FEMA? And that he failed us. We do not espouse criticism of this good man, Michael Brown but, we show that the past must be reconsidered at this time. And by the way, the song, "We Don’t Need Another Hero," was written by a Knight of the Realm, George Michael of England! Raphael’s ship, "Comfort" sailed into New Orleans last night bringing with it the message of Hope that this time of change offers all of us.

We are all in this together. I say hurrah to those anti-heroes we call, "Texans" for taking up the cause of caring for so many displaced children of God. What a contrast we see in the Superdome versus its airier counterpart, the Astrodome? The Mississippi River may be God’s line drawn in the sand? It is time to draw comparisons as we look in the Mirror of God. Whether it is the Tigris, Euphrates or Mississippi, we are now responsible for how we think and act.

Those who are waking up to the new call for volunteering to be walking saints or good knights, must commit to an eternal plan, not just a religious or secular one. Every change of age depends on its anti-heroes. Those men and women who see the new way opening to the expression of God’s Plan for humanity. How ironic that the Deity picked the self-expressed "City of Sin," which lies in the strongest part of the Bible Belt to being home this message? Why New Orleans? Home of The Saints? Maybe because like New York, it is a world-class city and one that has flourished under the flags of many nations? All the nations, in fact, which contributed to establishing this new world of the Americas.

I suggest that God did not hate Sodom or Gomorrah or Biloxi and New Orleans! He simply could not get their attention or ours, so, He created a diversion. And while the inhabitants of those cities were focused on the physical, here and now, He introduced a new consciousness into their eternal plan. What a gallant and brave people to take the brunt of the lesson for all of us? And, who better than the fine people of Texas to stand up against an all-encompassing army of destruction and give the army of the anti-heroes a new lease on life? Is their any coincidence that George Bush, the younger, hails from Texas? Is there any chance that God had no part in making sure two Texans were at the helm during these 3 Gulf Crises? And that the 3 last President haileds from the South? It is for you to decide. I ask that you do not think in terms of American politics but, of God lining up a new way to go.

New Orleans is protected by Joan of Arc who it is said listened lovingly to Michael the Archangel, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene. In this city, we find an opening to the newest world in this hemisphere, Central and South America. New Orleans is a place of sensuality, song, human history and of a resilient people who have known all the conquerors of this hemisphere. I thank God we have such a portal of power to recommend us to The Godhead’s Attention.

New Orleans has always been a vortex, much like New York City. Where else can the fury of a loving parent exhibit its attention and get our notice? If I lived in Chicago or LA or in a major city north or west, I would watch my back! God loves to utilize those Four Directions in His Lesson Plans!

Open your hearts and minds to the possibility that we are the microcosm and our ways must change, each and every one of us doing our part. It is now the time to leave racial and economic barriers behind. To part with old ideas that separate us instead of drawing us closer. How many times do your fellow humans have to take a pounding for you to believe that all of us have created this mess? The anti-hero is now at the top of his/her game and ready to take the lead in all of us. Please believe you were meant to do great things and please, be on time.

Much love to all who grieve, feel fear and are experiencing great change, for you will be comforted.
