Hollywood BUT Doctor Spotlights Media, Movies, Music & More!

by Eddie Conner
BIG BUT MEDIA of the Month-
The Katrina Blame Game

During this time when hundreds and thousands of people are feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation, it hurts my heart that many officials have been spending valuable, life saving minutes blaming one organization or another about what went wrong and spending more time than common sense to rectify the situation in a suitable manner. As national, regional and local officials played the futile “Blame Game” our people did what Americans always do, we took matters into our own hands.

We helped, we prayed, we visualized and we the people of the United States took inspired, decisive action. We began to ask, “What can I do to be of service,” “How can I give in order to help the people who are living without?”

For a brief time in junior high school I had the privilege of living in Louisiana and I can tell you first hand that the people, energy and soul of New Orleans and Louisiana are like no other state in America. In a city wealthy with spirit and rich in history New Orleans offers up a supernatural mindset that stays with each person who enters the invisible gates of her mystifying domain. The same seems to apply to people who have only experienced her power in books, movies and now on the small screen via the endless hours of news coverage.

The Big BUT-tradiction that resulted from Hurricane Katrina was watching many of our nation’s authorities banter back and forth not unlike a bunch of spoiled high school hooligans fighting over who’s right and who’s wrong for lighting fire works at school while the entire school burns to the ground around them.

The more traditional Big BUT Syndrome with this political fiasco spanning the obliteration of our Gulf Coast states was how embarrassed I was that our country, supposedly leading the world with our knowledge and heart and equal rights for all, was so late in helping our own people. The hardworking people that are the very back bone of this nation were left to literally fend for themselves. And after all is said and done and I choose to consciously view the big picture from a “soul perspective” I know in my mind that all of the enormous, amazing grace that will come out of this will be light years greater than the political squabble that took place. Good always out weights the bad.

For every moment that I, and many of you, feel embarrassed that our leaders didn’t do what we feel they should’ve, would’ve or could’ve done, there will be another few million real folks in this country who do know what to do. Those of you reading this column and your friends are the people who turned this nation’s biggest BUT of all into a graceful reality that we take care of our own. That we don’t have to wait for someone else to do it, even if that is their job--we did it because that is who we are to the very core and essence of our being.

As the Hollywood BUT Doctor I would love to prescribe a healthy dose of appreciation to lift our spirits at this difficult time. First of all appreciate all of the things that are working in your own life from your digestive system to your air-conditioning, take a moment to think about what life is like when anything you count on is not working properly and then appreciate all that is functioning well. Then, appreciate the kindness, the acts of courage and bravery that we are reading about and watching as the Gulf Coast story continues to unfold. Observe all of the generous gifts of time and money, food and clothing that the people who've been spared from this natural disaster are offering to those who are in need. And when you feel a Big BUT travesty taking place in your heart and mind, stop and choose to consciously see and feel all of the good coming out of sadness. If you listen you can hear the heart-beat of our Nation pounding more loud and more proud today than we did before Katrina hit our Gulf Coast, in the wake of the devastation that she caused, we are reminded that we are all humans with unlimited compassion for others.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH: A DreamWorks Picture - Just Like Heaven

Just Like Heaven is a new romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. The movie is directed by Mark Waters and this 94 minute film is a lovely escape from the same old--same old blood, guts and gore that often riddles our movie going experience.

I particularly like this movie because of the after-life and spirit communication aspects that it explores. Of course it’s Hollywood and although any medium or reputable psychic will tell you that what is depicted on the big screen is nothing like true psychic phenomenon in real life, that said, it’s wonderful to get out and see a movie that makes you feel warm and fuzzy. This movie is just that. Consider it a lovely mystical vacation from the everyday ups and downs in your life and enjoy the chemistry between Reese and Mark. You'll leave the theater with a smile on your face and a lightness in your step.

MUSIC OF THE MONTH - Karen Drucker Songs of the Spirit I, II and III

Karen Drucker is one of our nation’s leading visionary vocalists and an extraordinary workshop leader. I’ve had the privilege of working with her on numerous occasions and I am continually blown away with her extraordinary ability to take the people at her concerts and retreats higher and higher into their true selves.

I affectionately call Karen The Original Song-ffirmation Queen and Chant Goddess! It’s true. She has taken her soothing, healing voice and turned her affirmations about living the life of her dreams into songs that raise both her and her listeners vibratory frequencies. I don’t know about you BUT (But intended) time after time I start out saying my affirmations and after less than one week I completely forget to do them and fall right back into my old habits. Karen’s albums are the remedy! Once you begin singing Karen’s chants she completely hooks you back into feeling good. This is the kind of feeling that sets your tone for the day, gets you out of your own way and empowers you to get things done in your life.

Karen makes spirituality fun again. And it’s just an added bonus to know that she sings because that is where her heart and soul are taking her. She is following the yellow brick road of guidance, doing what she loves while helping the country to sing song-ffirmations that take us to the next level.

For more fabulous Karen Drucker information go to www.KarenDrucker.com and sing yourself into prosperous thoughts about your love, money and career.

AND MORE: Rising Star of The Month: Mary Jo Matsumoto, Fashion Alchemist®

Red Carpet Designer and Stylist Mary Jo Matsumoto is this month’s Rising Star. As the Hollywood BUT Doctor it’s my job to point out Tinsel Town’s contradictions and to shine a new healing spotlight on what is working in this fast paced who’s who of Hollywood. In my search I found countless BUT-rageous fashion blunders and only a couple of BUT free fashion greats. My favorite fashion star is Mary Jo Matsumoto. This Fashion Alchemist® has strong heart and a spectacular spirit behind her designs. I predict we will see much more about Matsumoto’s multiple talents in coming years.

Mary Jo’s is a designer whose fashion concepts are sleek, classic, powerful, yet approachable. She has a remarkable ability to transform her clients from the “inside out” while bridging them into a sophisticated and soulful metamorphoses. In short, she empowers her clients into seeing the light and beauty within themselves through the art of Fashion Alchemy®.

Mary Jo has hit the nail on the head with basic metaphysical knowledge and spiritual knowing. She explains, “If you flip on the television, there’s a daily dose of people being scolded for their fashion crimes. As a result, fear permeates our culture; the Fashion Police might drag us into Fashion Court and put us on trial before the What Not To Wear Jury. The subliminal message is that we’re lost in bad taste that only an expert can heal us.” Matsumoto takes the Big BUT out of basic fashion television and transforms the low frequency fashion beliefs with her own charming hi-frequency knowledge. She explains, “Everyday I see plenty of people doing things right, in fact, with great style. After all is said and done, I believe style is more important than beauty. When you trust your style, you’re trusting your heart.”

For more information on how to trust your own heart and style, go to Mary Jo Matsumoto’s blog at www.TrustYourStyle.com or www.MaryJoMatsumoto.com and dress your heart with style!

The Celebrity “BUT Quotes” of the Month

“I am so not a guy...I don’t know anything about cars. BUT my wife laughs because I can pick out a Kate Spade bag--no problem! I have much more girlie hobbies.” Rob Thomas

“I’m not 20. Not 30. BUT I’m certainly different from what most people feel someone in her 40’s should be.” Demi Moore

The Celebrity “AND Avalanche Quote” of the Month

“ When you grow up and you’re different, all you want to do is find a way to be the same. AND then as a more mature adult…you realize the beauty of thinking on your own.” Sarah Jessica Parker
