Walking the Labyrinth

by Margaret Lewis
Walking the Labyrinth is akin to the movement of a Woman’s Inner Moon, her cycle of creativity and reproduction.

Movement from the outer opening into the center of the labyrinth represents the ovulation phase of a woman’s cycle. As estrogen circulates throughout her body, her moon waxes, filling her with creative energy as she brings forth her life-giving eggs that peak at mid-cycle of her inner full moon. This is her time to dance in the outer world, to be creative, active and able to manifest her dreams. Her shedding eggs journey down into the waiting lunar horns of her fallopian tubes. Ovulation is the journey inward to the center of the labyrinth. It is the first phase of your walk of the labyrinth. Here is where a question is posed to the Intuitive Voice along the laby walk.

When you reach the center of your serpentine journey, you will find illumination, a moment of clarity and the conception of new insights to be birthed with the release of your moon flow. As the waxing into your full moon progresses, progesterone is released, building up the uterine lining at this phase of your moon cycle. At the center of the labyrinth attention turns inward. You must take a moment to reach into your essence and unveil your deeper truth. Allow your inner knowing, your intuition, to guide you as your dark moon flows. Float and dream within this inner pool of feminine essence. Here is where the laby walk reveals the message of the inner voice.

The return pathway will be a walk of integration, a journey where the treasure will be unveiled and understood. The cycle completes and begins anew. Your void has been cleared and a space for new ideas can be birthed, new concepts can grow and fresh dreams can be implanted in the dark only to rise and smile at the reflection of the moon’s return to the light. The Oracle becomes the awakened one as she returns from the labyrinth’s spiraling inner core. She brings messages of wisdom and care to her loved ones. Here is where the laby walk reveals the insights and understanding of the inner voice’s message.

This description of the walk of the labyrinth is from my new book, Landings, The Spiritual Return to Living Fully in the Body. As I have worked more deeply with the guidance of my inner voice, I have found the labyrinth to be a particularly helpful process and tool for accessing my intuitive guidance. I keep a finger labyrinth at my desk and when I am stumped, confused, unfocused or in need of answers, I pose a question to the labyrinth and then take the journey. Here is the process I use for inspiration and intuitive guidance. Try it out and see what you discover!

1. Place your left index finger at the opening of the labyrinth’s path. Follow your breath for a few minutes and center yourself, bringing your consciousness down into your bodymind.

2. Pose a question. This question can pertain to any area of your life. As you pose the question, hold it in your mind as you move into the labyrinth and trace its path to the center.

3. Come to the center and wait. Meditate for a few minutes or until some form of an answer comes. This illumination may not appear at first to be an answer. It may be a vision or a symbol that at first blush may not appear to have any meaning as a response to your question. Just hold the thought or vision in your womb space and allow it to be.

4. Retrace your pathway out of the labyrinth allowing the question and response to integrate within you.

5. Practice this exercise daily this week and journal your discoveries.

6. Enjoy!

A Note from Margaret:

Each Wisdom Walks Online Learning Experience, whether it be an online course, personal seminar, or focused mini-course, addresses a specific life stage and its particular attributes of intuition. Like a spiraling galaxy, our passage through life is an unfolding journey, which shapes us individually and allows for spiritual growth as we master the gifts of our intuitive voice when challenges arise at each life stage.

We begin in the south with the Child. The child is closest to the stars, for we are essentially made of stardust. The child within you knows her source exists among the stars and her dreaming world of magical thinking opens the floodgates of star guidance that showers you with the starlight of your soul.

The inner teen is the aspect of self that lives in the west on the wheel of life. When the child becomes the teen, she moves down to earth from the starry realms and becomes fully embodied in her physicality, with both feet planted on the earth. She is driven to experience all things of the material world.

The adult, who lives in the north direction, is the one who orchestrates the symphony of sound manifesting into form between the heavenly cosmos and planet earth. Where the child is of the stars and the teen is of the earth, it is the adult who choreographs the energy between the above and below realms of the stars and the earth. She is the one who manifests her starry dream on the material of earth plane existence.

We come full circle when our wheel of life turns toward the east, to the life stage of the Sage. She is the one who holds the wisdom of her experience. Understanding the lessons of earthbound life, she looks again to the stars, the place where she knows she will one day return when at last she finds her wings of flight.

I invite you on this journey from the stars to the earth and back to the stars as we explore the inherent wisdom within your soul. All the aspects of you from the child to the teen, the adult and the sage, have so much to share with you. Let’s do the deep work of spirituality. Let’s dive below the surface of the mind’s meditations to the heart’s soulful beat and the gut’s primal understanding of the very core of your essence. That is what I offer in our online learning adventures. Do you have the courage to take the plunge with me?

An online course is a scheduled four-week program of interaction with me and your classmates online. You receive an online workbook and online audio meditations and can participate in two conference calls in the second and fourth week of the course.

A personal seminar takes this same material in the workbook and audio program and offers it to you as an independent study experience. There is no set time to register, so you can sign up when it is convenient for you. When your work is complete and you have responded to several essay questions, we will have a private phone consultation to discuss your discoveries.

A mini-online course is a focused area of independent study for the healing and empowerment of self at a particular life stage, which includes a workbook and CD set of all the meditation practices.
