MMA Comments For the Week Beginning
April 24, 2006

Review and Preview:
The April 18 geocosmic critical reversal date for U.S. equities, +/- 3 trading days, was right on the money. So was the April 20 critical reversal date for Gold and Silver, as reported in the Forecasts for 2006 book. And, as stated in last week’s column, “We are now in a critical reversal zone, between last Thursday’s full moon (April 13) and this Thursday’s Venus trine Jupiter. Right in the middle (April 17-18), we find Venus conjunct Uranus and the Moon in Sagittarius, a rather electrical and stimulating combination that could drive “blow-off” markets even higher (watch Gold, Silver, and Crude Oil early this week).”
On Tuesday, April 18, the U.S. equity markets ended their decline, posting a cycle trough that was followed by a rally to yet another new 5-year high by the end of the week. In the case of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Tuesday’s low of 11,039 ended 4 weeks of falling prices from its crest of 11,335 attained on March 21. In the next three days, the DJIA soared to 11,405, more than making up all the losses of the prior four weeks. The previous multi-year high in the NASDAQ Composite was 2374 on April 7. That high was barely exceeded at 2375 on Thursday of last week, before selling off a bit into Friday’s close. This may be a warning. Failure to exceed this “double top” formation in the next few days could mean a severe decline is starting. “Double tops” are a chart formation that unfolds in over half the cases of major trend reversals in equity markets, per studies shown in The Ultimate Book on Stock Market Timing Volume 1: Cycles and Patterns in the Stock Indices.
In other world equity markets, new all-time highs were realized last week in the Australian All Ordinaries, Brazil’s Bovespa index, and Argentina’s Merval Index. Multi-year highs were realized in most of the European indices we track, including the German DAX, British FTSE, Netherlands AEX, and Hang Seng of Hong Kong. But we did not see new multi-year highs happen in the Swiss stock index and Japanese Nikkei.
But the real excitement continued to be in the precious metals and crude oil. On Tuesday, April 19, Silver ended its explosive move with a top at 1474, its highest level since early 1983. The very next day it was down to 1220, a decline of more than 250 points. There were many YEARS when Silver didn’t even move 250 points, let alone to do it in just a few hours. Gold topped out at 645 early on April 20. Before the close of that day, it was down to 610.50. Not long ago, it took months to make the move it just made in a couple of hours. And once again, Crude Oil soared to a new record high, ending the week at $75.65/barrel, nearby contract. The race for $100.00 per barrel is on, to be realized while Saturn opposes Neptune later this year through much of 2007, according to my understanding of this transit. Saturn pertains to “not enough” of either supply or price. Neptune pertains to Crude Oil. Uranus also continues it sojourn through Pisces. Uranus represents volatility and record prices. Pisces is the sign pertaining to Crude Oil. As mentioned before, I believe Crude Oil will make its record high while Uranus is close to the middle of the sign of Pisces, followed by an 80-90% drop before it leaves that sign in 2011.
Short-Term Geocosmics:
The major geocosmic signature in effect this week is the Sun in waning square to Saturn on Tuesday, April 25. This is a Level 1 signature, which means it has a fairly high correspondence to primary cycles in this case, that correspondence is within 10 trading days, and usually 8 or less. However, this solo aspect pales to what lies in store April 30-May 10. As stated in last week’s column, “But our focus for stock indices is on the forthcoming Jupiter-Uranus waning trine of May 5. If this corrective decline ends sometime this week, we could see another leg up as the indices resume their “blow-off” pattern…. Once these passages are complete, we then enter into Jupiter square Saturn and Saturn in opposition to Neptune phases. The tide could change quickly shortly after May 5.” There are seven Level 1 signatures present April 30-May 10. That’s a lot! We will discuss this more in detail in next week’s column, which will probably be our last report until May 19. We will likely be taking two weeks off for the Financial Market Timing Conference in Tuscany.
Long-Term Thoughts:
Readers have asked, “How is it possible that stock indices continue to rally to new multi-year highs, while Crude Oil (and precious metals) soars to record levels? Shouldn’t these increases in commodity prices lead to higher interest rates and a downturn in the economy and stock indices? What is going on?”
Well, this is not a time when patterns of the past apply to the present. After all, Uranus is in Pisces, 2003-2011. Uranus has a dynamic for “breaking out” of any pattern, of violating past behaviors, of doing “the unexpected.” And Pisces is the sign that is probably most removed from “logic,” relying more on an “intuitive” approach to matters. And since there is such a thin line between intuition and paranoia (a line that is defined by “trust”), it is not uncommon to see the collective (the herd) following the invisible leaders (perhaps the huge unregulated hedge fund managers) over the cliff and into the abyss. Why? Because they “fear” missing the move… they “fear” there won’t be enough supplies left in the end…., not enough oil, not enough Gold, not enough stocks to buy…. That is the nature of Pisces on a collective level when it goes to an extreme. It can be the dynamic of delusions of grandeur and hysteria, or panic. Right now it is grandeur and a littler hysteria, and it is not “common sense.” We do not live in a time when “common sense” rules the day. And in my opinion, we may very likely experience the opposite end of this dynamic panic - before Uranus leaves Pisces in 2011.
This sounds ominous, I am sure. But I am also sure that it is such an environment that has led to today’s outstanding opportunities for traders, and will lead to even more outstanding trading opportunities by 2011. I also believe this collective, astrological dynamic is leading us to outstanding investment opportunities for the long-term. These will result from the social discontent that is already starting, and will inspire young people to find alternative ways to construct their collective life style in the next two decades. As mentioned before, watch the young people. Watch what they do, and what they rebel against. Watch the Establishment too, for what they will try to suppress in regards to “youth movements” will likely fail, as the “New World” and new ideas emerge through this classic Saturn-Uranus opposition (2008-2010) of generational struggle.

Disclaimer and statement of purpose:
The purpose of this column is not to predict the future movement of various financial markets. However, that is the purpose of the MMA (Merriman Market Analyst) subscription services. This column is not a subscription service. It is a free service, except in those cases where a fee may be assessed to cover the cost of translating this column from English into a non-English language. This weekly report is written with the intent to educate the reader on the relationship between astrological factors and collective human activities as they are happening. In this regard, this report will oftentimes report what happened in various stock and financial markets throughout the world in the past week, and discuss that movement in light of the geocosmic signatures that were in effect. It will then identify the geocosmic factors that will be in effect in the next week, or even month, or even years, and the author’s understanding of how these signatures will likely affect human activity in the times to come. The author (Merriman) will do this from a perspective of a cycle’s analyst looking at the military, political, economic, and even financial markets of the world. It is possible that some forecasts will be made based on these factors. However, the primary goal is to both educate and alert the reader as to the psychological climate we are in, from an astrological perspective. The hope is that it will help the reader understand these psychological dynamics that underlie (or coincide with) the news events and hence financial markets of the day.
No guarantee as to the accuracy of this report is being made here. Any decisions in financial markets are solely the responsibility of the reader, and neither the author nor the publishers assume any responsibility at all for those individual decisions. Reader should understand that futures and options trading are considered high risk.
