Glasgow Macintosh Festival 2006
The Glasgow Mackintosh Festival 2006 was announced at Mackintosh’s own home – The Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow, Scotland.
The Glasgow Mackintosh Festival celebrates Charles Rennie Mackintosh throughout 2006, with a focus of programme highlights in September.
The Festival offers a chance to experience the legend that is Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the world-renowned architect, designer and artist in his home city. Mackintosh (1868 – 1928) is considered one of the most creative figures of the early 20th century.
Showcasing the unique riches of Glasgow’s extraordinary Mackintosh heritage, the Festival presents an ambitious and wide-ranging series of events including exhibitions at Mackintosh venues across Glasgow, educational workshops, on-line resources, publications and a programme of activities celebrating Mackintosh and his contemporaries.
Mackintosh’s impressive collection of work will be featured across the city at buildings he designed and inspired, with a number of never-before-seen works on show for the first time. Glasgow houses the pre-eminent collection of Mackintosh’s buildings, drawings and designs.
The Glasgow Mackintosh Festival is an important step in Glasgow’s bid for World Heritage site status for its Mackintosh heritage.

Robin Rice Releases Latest Novel
Award winning author Robin Rice is releasing her latest novel, Venus for a Day, free on the internet. The novel chronicles the journey of Sydney Wellington, a former business exec living on a boat, who prays to "any God or Goddess listening that today be somehow different than yesterday, and the day before that." To her surprise, the Goddess of Love and Beauty shows up stark naked and ready to prepare her to seduce the Adonis living five boats down.
Much as in Rice's last novel, A Hundred Ways to Sunday (available in Spanish and German) the protagonist journeys towards self-realization is not an easy one. “For Sydney, the task is to uncover her feminine power,” says Rice. “This is a topic women really resonate with. Her focus on her 'thunder thighs' and other physical imperfections, but her real problem goes much deeper. What Venus teaches, by way of hellish tests and trials, is the path to rediscovering authentic passion."
Sydney’s story is really every woman’s story. “We all know a sister, friend or coworker who we see as beautiful and powerful, but that is not what she sees when she looks in the mirror. Reading Venus, which is a healing in and of itself, can change that, even if she only shows up on your bedside table."
