Creating Bridges: Spirituality & Philosophy: The Awakening Generation
The Awakening Generation:
Children of New Energies

Often times, it's easy for me to believe that I'm nothing special. After all, I am just your regular eighteen year-old college freshman. I have a boyfriend, no money, challenging classes, and as deep of a passionate hatred for dorm food as any self-respecting college student. There is nothing much about me that would distinguish me from any other young adult you would see on the street. Heck, you may have been right behind me at the grocery store just this afternoon.
But appearances are deceiving. I am most assuredly not “normal.” In fact, the energy of awakening young people today is as far from “normal” you can possibly get. As I am myself a Crystal Child, I am just one of an increasingly large number of young people who bear this new energy.
The new energies of the Crystal and Indigo Childrenjust to name a feware not the usual differences between generations. This is no mere changing fashion trend or musical preference. No, this is much, much bigger than that.
This is the future of the entire human race.
The Old Energy
Our generation is carrying the torch first ignitedat least for Americaby the masses in the 1960s, saying simply, “Nothing is sacred.” Many idolize these “hippies” thinking of themselves as the torchbearers of their first causes, the first time thousands of people rushed angrily at taboos and previously sacred morals and beliefs to break them down and create social change.
There is obviously still a great deal of anger and betrayal in the hearts and minds of young people at social institutionsgovernment, education, religion, parenting, you name itlarge amounts of emotional and spiritual turmoil caused by this nebulous entity, “the institution.”
In the steps of civil rights movements, massive war protests, and countless legislations attempting to protect the rights of the individual, young people as a culture are struggling internally to find their causewhere we fit into the process of time and progress.
And yet, even young people that are not of the new energies see that simple anger and refusal to follow the system, though potent, was not enough to actually achieve the change needed to facilitate its breakdown.
We are now thinking to ourselves, how many times must we spend all this negative energy to break down walls? Violence obviously begets violence, but even a peaceful protest begets only more protest. How many piles of social and religious rubble are we willing to wade through before we choose a different approach?
This is where the new energy comes in.
New Energies: Breaking the Cycle
There is a new light coming into the world, and the young people are absolutely integral to this, bearing energies that have largely been veiled from humanity for centuries. For just a few well-known examples, there are the Indigo, Star, and Rainbow Children. As well, we must not forget my fellow Crystal Children.
We are seeing so many new things as we witness these energies growing within us. The things we who have chosen to awaken young know causes us to actually feel quite alone and out-of-place among our peers.
This is not typical middle school alienation caused by pimples and big feet.
This is a deep longing to connect with others in a way that much of society does not yet even know about, much less understand. When formal schooling begins, many of us feel as if there is no one out there that will understand who we are; thus, not only can we not connect with people on the level we deeply long for, but we feel we cannot connect with anyone. This connection is integral to who we are. And yet, so many of us feel lost and deprived of this undefinable love and unity with all life that transcends social conventions and even language itself.
Due to the fact that there is yet no way for us to connect with each other in this manner, we find ourselves learning how to remain quiethow to shut down our talents and ideas. There is currently no outlet or open discussion of our new thoughts and beliefs. Who we are does not fit the current system: specifically, the educational systems. Our talents are turned from gifts to curses: Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Autism, and a host of other “dis-eases”lots of official looking capitol letters and acronyms that surround our light in a cloud of academically researched negativity.
Silence and numbness have often become our closest allies.
This must change; we now have to find a way to see beyond the popular way our gifts are perceived and turn them into the blessings they really are.
We need to create a space of freedom for all of us to open up, to learn how to not shut down and become quiet; how to maintain and facilitate even more growth within ourselves in a system that is frightened of us and our new abilities and understandings, or to be cliché, how to turn our “weaknesses into strengths.” When we see that our negativity about our situation is not something from within ourselves, but instead a response to the diagnosis of the outside world in their struggle to define what is happening for us, we can see beyond all the negativity.
We must also see that this is the fault of no one, not even “the institution” or any social system.
Whenever change is to occur, it is a human reaction to fear what it will mean for us and how our lives will change because of it. By casting a negative light on the new energy we bear, it not only keeps it from coming out, but turns us, the bearers, in on ourselves; a perfect system for keeping our new light in check, from causing any change.
When we expose the negative diagnoses as a mere fear of change, we can take back our light and show the world that, in fact, this is just the thing we need. By taking it for ourselves and offering it lovingly back to a world that fears us and would have us keep our abilities and gifts to ourselves, we can demonstrate that this is something all of us truly do want.
All this must also be done in this loving new way; we must learn to speak up, to stay strong and true to ourselves without perpetuating the conflicts. It is our job to teach people how to use their internal light to change the outer world, not to do the opposite as we have done for so long; not to try to alter the external world and expect it to facilitate the necessary change within.
Our New Kind of Love
In this excerpt from one of my writings, found at www.RandomActsofLiteracy.com, I have explained this new love as well as I know to:
“Love does not necessarily mean kindness, softness, and meekness. This is the illusion we created to keep war at the top of the food chain. It keeps love from being so strong that it will step out onto the battlefield and take every bullet from every side and continue to walk the line, until all those fighting will have no choice but to put down their weapons at this overpowering force.
Love may be seen as a feminine concept, riddled with the bullet holes of the patriarchy: weak, fragile, kind, soft, bending, relenting, gentle, forgiving.
But what if it were imbued with the energy of the masculine?
This is why I am not a feminist. I seek to awaken the divine feminine, just as any male should seek to awaken the divine masculine. But woman against man in a battle for power is just another way the war will continue and persevere.
Seek a balance. Seek to lift the veil of illusion: hate is fear, and it is weak. Love is powerful. Love is the only true power, for it is the only true energy that wields both the sword and the shield with enough power to shatter the illusion.”
Contact Me
In my following columns, I will address a wide range of issues all pertaining to awakening children and young adults, and the life experiences we have as a result of our unique situation. I want to invite any young peoplegrade school to college agewith stories, ideas and experiences of their own to contact me at ann@randomactsofliteracy.com. As well, parents wishing for insight into their children's thoughts and actions from the positive, spiritual perspective of a young person are encouraged to visit my website and are welcome to share their experiences with me via email. I am also currently in the process of putting a forum on my website for young people.
My goal is to create that space of freedom and openness in which we can connect and grow in the company of others, to realize and nurture our potential, to become the light we've always known ourselves to be.
We're out to shatter the illusion. Are you ready for us? |

Ann Marie Judge
Crystal Child, Student of Life, Spirituality, & Writer
|
 |
Ann Marie graduated from high school in 2005 and is currently an eighteen year old freshman at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. She is majoring in English and religious studies.
Not yet old enough for acronyms at the end of her name, she considers herself a student of life, and has been deeply involved in the spiritual community since her first awakening at the age of twelve. Since then, she has had much education in the metaphysical and spiritual arts by a wide variety of teachers and healers. She was very quickly recognized as a Crystal and Indigo child, as well as a clairvoyant and intuitive.
Because she was able to began living for the spiritual at a young age, her dream is to reach out through her writing to other young people that are experiencing similar awakenings while still being within the educational system and a society that often does not recognize or nurture young, spiritually-gifted ones. Her vision is to form a community of spiritually-minded young people so that the younger generations will be prepared to be guides and teachers as the spiritual consciousness of the world continues to rise.
Though much of her life is still largely potential, she feels this time in her life is the first step in fulfilling her dream of becoming a published writer so as to serve the children and young people of the world that feel the spiritual stirring within. As well, she hopes to educate parents on how to nurture and understand what is going on in their children's minds from a young person's perspective.
