Animal Guides

Some of the most important and powerful spirit guides are often the most obvious, yet overlookedthe spirit guides of the animal world.
There was a time when we were closely connected to the natural world and talked and listened to the animals for their wisdom and personal power. But that is a time long forgotten. Though we’ve gotten away from the natural world, it has never left us, and animals are continually communicating with us both in the physical world and in our dreams as they attempt to speak to our soul and spirit.
Animals are part of the teacher kingdom. Some bring us the wisdom and skills to survive; others teach us how to morph and adapt, which can be very useful at times. Some animals are humorous and playful and teach us how to lighten up and laugh at life’s challenges and how to have fun. Some are known for their loyalty and ability to love unconditionally, others for their grounded detachment, remaining true to themselves rather than please others. Some animals are detectives; others have the capability to disappear. All, in one way or another, have fantastic soul-awakening qualities and the ability to speak to every one of us in their own way.
Animals serve as spirit guides in three ways. First, by being in our lives and communicating directly. Second, by appearing in our dreams, bringing messages through the astral plane. Third, by showing up as our totems to bring the particular power and energy we need to accomplish our goals.
You can start connecting with your animal guides by seeing the spirit of the animals present in your life. Start with any pets you have, or have had, and focus on what their spirit brings or brought you as a gift. My dog Miss-T, a black miniature poodle, is a gorgeous, devoted, sensitive spirit who works hard to love all my family members equally and unconditionally. One way she does this is by sleeping with each of us in shifts throughout the night. She starts in my room, then moves to my daughter Sabrina’s room for a few hours, then on to my other daughter Sonia’s room until morning. She also sits with us one at a time: With me in my office when I do readings, at the foot of each of my daughters’ desks when they do homework, sometimes pacing back and forth between them; and in my husband Patrick’s office in the afternoons. When she is present, we all feel much calmer and happier.
Cats are also incredible teachers and communicate to our souls. I’ve never owned a cat because I am allergic to them, but my brother Anthony has had two cats, Summer and Winter Girl, tabbies who have kept him grounded and amused through many highly emotionally challenging times of illness and stress. Their antics and calming presence have kept his heart open and happy when he could have easily shut down. In many ways they were his healers, and he says so all the time.
Birds are another creature who will speak to you. A client, Marion, relied on birds to guide him. He was about to undertake a new business venture, which involved opening movie theaters with his brother-in-law, when he spotted an owl two nights in a row in his backyard. Knowing owls are predators who are active at night, he felt it was a signal that his brother-in-law would be sneaky and aggressive as a partner, a suspicion he already held. Thanking the owl for the warning, Marion declined to enter the partnership. Once he made that decision, the owl left. Disappointed, his brother-in-law took on another partner. Eventually he and the new partner began fighting over who owned what, and many sneaky accountings by both were revealed. The theaters closed and lawsuits were filed. My client’s personal relationship with his brother-in-law, however, thanks to the owl, remained intact.
Another time, I was in a deep quandary over whether to write my autobiography, which I had been asked to do. Uncertain if my life story would be of any value to others, I asked my guides to give me a definite sign and then went to bed. This happened when I was with my family on vacation in France, visiting the family I had spent time with years earlier as a young student. Suddenly, as if awakened by some higher force, I shot out of a deep sleep at five in the morning and looked out the window. Heading straight toward me was a beautiful white dove, and I mean straight towards me. It flew into the bedroom window and hit me squarely in the head. Knowing from my teachers that birds are messengers of the soul, that startling sign assured me that writing the book was something I must do for my soul, if not for others.
The poor dove got knocked for a loop and landed in a daze in the corner of the bedroom, but recovered her composure after a moment or two and flew out the window and into the sunrise. I wrote the book. I don’t know about others, but it was good for my soul.
These are just a few examples of how closely animal guides can be connected to you and how they show up to teach you more about your spirit.
Start connecting to your animal guides by appreciating the unique spirit in every animal you own or engage with on a regular basis. How would you describe their spirit? What lessons can you learn from these animals? What lesson or healing do you receive from them?
Next, begin to see how animals show up in your life in other ways. Whenever an animal or bird gets your attention, it’s bringing you a spirit message.
All animals are teachers and bring healing messages if we pay attention. Watching fish in a fish tank, or even a single fish in a fishbowl, brings a profound sense of well-being as they smoothly glide through the water. Turtles bring a sense of grounded protection as they teach you how to withdraw from the world and retreat into your own being-ness whenever you feel stressed and overwhelmed. Hamsters teach you how to cooperate and have fun as you watch them play on their wheels and sleep together in their cages.
To better harness the gifts of your animal guides keep a journal by your bed and note any visitations by animals or birds in your dreams.
Finally, if your life is stagnant or in need of healing, you can actually request animal spirits to come and help you change your vibration and arouse your energy.
The thing to know is when calling forward an animal guide or totem, it’s the animal spirit who chooses you, not the other way around.

Sonia Choquette, Ph.D.
Psychic, Healer, & Author

Sonia Choquette is a world-renowned and highly spirited six-sensory author, story teller energetic healer, and intuitive teacher who specializes in helping others recognize that we are all endowed with a sixth sense that we can count on.
A masterful and humorous teacher committed to strengthening intuition in our daily lives, she is the bestselling author of seven books:
Diary of a Psychic,
The Psychic Pathway,
Your Heart's Desire,
The Wise Child, True Balance, Your Psychic Pathway to New Beginnings,
Your Psychic Pathway to Joy,
and numerous audio editions.
A highly trained six-sensory intuitive and life guide, with an extensive background in Eastern and Western mysticism, Sonia was educated at the University of Denver and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and holds a Ph.D. in metaphysics.
She says, "I am comfortably and competently intuitive because I was encouraged at all times to be awake, aware, and guided by my sixth sense. I grew up in an environment that treated the sixth sense as the first and most important of our senses. I view it not only as natural, but actually essential to successful navigation in life. Intuition is a gift that we all have, that we can all experience, that we can all trust and that we all need!"
In working with people for more than 32 years of almost daily one-on-one private consultations, Sonia insists that the sixth sense is natural to us all, but dormant in most. Whether we call them "hunches" or "feelings" or as she does, "vibes," everyone has them, but unfortunately most people dismiss or ignore them to their detriment.
As we try to adapt to the world we now live in, Sonia emphasizes that trusting our vibes, our sixth sense in action is "no longer optional. Awakening and strengthening our sixth sense is becoming more and more fundamental to our ability to live harmoniously with ourselves and others in the new world order."
Paying attention to the sixth sense-learning to listen to it, to trust it, to train oneself to call on its guidance-are the challenges facing six-sensory people trapped in a five-sensory culture.
Approaching human potential "from the inside, out," Sonia offers a unique brand of grounded and practical techniques for people to use in order to activate their most sense and let it lead their everyday life. Her mission, in other words, is to help people to "trust their vibes."
She guides them in how to build a psychic scaffolding to support their sixth sense so they can be more brilliant and effective than they've ever thought possible.
She teaches that our sixth sense's primary function is to guide our soul's growth and keep us connected to our path and purpose-without its direction, we lose our way.
In her first book, The Psychic Pathway, Sonia introduces us to our 'vibes." In her latest book, Trust Your Vibes, she shows you how to master them.
Sonia's own path has encompassed bestselling books published in more than 23 countries, speaking and conducting workshops around the globe, thousands of grateful clients, and a home in Chicago that she shares with husband Patrick Tully, daughters Sonia and Sabrina, and a poodle named Miss T.
