Healing Your Emotional Body
The Task of the Second Initiation

Today, the science behind mind/body medicine has found that it’s our emotions that are regulating what we experience as “reality.” Yet cognitive/behavioral therapy has become the dominant mode of psychotherapy and addiction treatment….while all along it’s our emotional life that holds the key to our well being and good self feelings. Clear thinking or normal healthy behavior are never possible when your emotional body is still rocking around with unprocessed moods and emotional reactivity. Emotional upsets and over-reactions will constantly sabotage our advancement in any kind of cognitive/behavioral work we seek to employ. Unbridled emotions block our power to reason or to see reality.
Your emotions do no change from changing how you think. Your emotional body functions like fluid, through the law of thermo-dynamics. Pent-up feelings and emotional woundings have to be accessed, felt through, and emptied in a safe therapeutic setting in order to clear.
If you look around in our trouble world today you’ll quickly see that it’s imbalanced emotions that are ruining our relationships both in our personal lives and globally. It’s holding onto our old, outworn attachments, resentments, fears, and unhealthy beliefs that cause us to struggle so much in war, terror, and unhappiness. Emotionalism is what causes us to be so unkind, or even downright brutal, to others and to ourselves.
Emotional healing is the missing link in many current mental health and treatment milieus. In Eupsychia’s workshop intensives we have constantly focused on utilizing powerful experiential methods that heal the emotions in order to meet this deficiency out there. Our work helps people clear out what they may still be holding onto from their past that might be blocking their growth. Through three decades of this type of inner psychospiritual work, we’ve learned a great deal about how the emotional body heal.
Emotional/relational imbalances are imprinted in early childhood, usually from family systems that evidenced emotional or sexual dysfunction. As small children, we were not protected from the adults’ frustrations, outrages, hysterical reactions, or sometimes even sexual or romantic melodramas we had no way to understand. We can even become emotionally enmeshed, not knowing how to tell which feelings are ours or theirs. Or, sometimes parental emotions were so explosive and dangerous there was physical violence and abuse, and the children learned to leave their bodies and not feel at all. This kind of pain can create soul loss and dissociative disorders, where the people simply head for another dimension of realtiy when anything emotional comes up.
In the Western esoteric traditions, healing the emotional body is considered to be the Second Initiation along our path to wholeness. At this stage of our awakening, we will be met with the tests in life that teach us the difference between emotionalism and true feeling. We will learn to recognize how our shadow can act out and carry us off-track in our relating to one another. This is where the crisis in learning to pass through the “astral plane” takes place, demanding of us that we control and balance any irrational or illusory feelings we have taken on. These falsehoods we unconsciously adopt create maya, glamour, and illusion and we’ll be tested until we can bring it all to truth.
When our emotional body is imbalanced, we think we are our feelings and are driven by our moods, impassioned beliefs, and over-reactions. At the Second Degree initiatory lovel, the emotions become purified and limpid, no longer felt to be “our god.” In Christ’s life this was his Baptism. This is the seat of consciousness where we learn to feel our soul speaking to us what it longs for as it yearns to serve in compassion and true love while here in human form. Our emotional body is designed to be the source of the creative power that drives us to express as human beings to make life passionate and relational.
The task of the Second Initiation is to learn to invoke the quality of spiritual discrimination. This soul quality keeps us from misusing our feeling nature in any imbalanced manner. So you can call upon your Higher Self to bring forth this quality in you. Meditation and quiet reflection are also helpful, once you allow a painful emotion to fully release. But we do need to remember that it’s not out, but through that we heal. So we cannot escape, through magical thinking, that we can just walk away from any pent-up emotions we have never accessed, felt through, released, and made conscious.
Through the tempering of our desire nature, we develop a healthy will to feel, a willingness to enter life with an open heart. When our feeling and relational life are flowing smoothly, we find an abundance of life force and an increase in physical stamina, along with a state of well being or quiet bliss.
The revelation when we take the Second Initiation is this:
No other person or anything outside me can ever become a “tool” for personal exploitation of my own deficiency needs. I am responsible for myself, and my true love and all I need already live within me. The desire power of my soul is now, and always has been, the search for my true Self.
