The World Dreams of You
by Dana Gerhardt

If you bring forth what is within you,
What you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you,
What you do not bring forth will destroy you.

The Gospel of Thomas, Verse 70

Who are you? What are you here to do? These are essential Aries questions and you won’t get the answers by quiet navel-gazing. You must get into motion. The Aries New Moon, coming so soon after the Spring Equinox, says it’s time to break out and break through. Like a green shoot pushing up through the ground after its silent winter metamorphosis. The plant is on a journey to find out what it can become—and so are you. Results are less important now than action. Seek new experiences. They’ll deliver what you need along the way, quickening the young flames of spirit, evoking your courage, building your strength and granting a new awareness of yourself. Aries is pure life force rising through the body. Let the hunger for “something more” sharpen in you like a knife. Cut through: boredom, dissatisfaction, useless anger, self-doubt, the self-image that no longer fits. Be willing to be surprised at your new daring. Wake up—this is the start of the zodiacal new year!

This Aries New Moon arrives with a Solar Eclipse. Perhaps you’ve already been feeling it, especially after the tremors of the Lunar Eclipse two weeks ago. Eclipses start their vibration sometimes three to four weeks in advance, and can set into motion a dramatic acceleration or sudden turn of events. Eclipses often force much needed changes to the surface. Their shakedown makes it easier to release worn-out behaviors, attitudes and relationships. Their turbulence impels us to grow. If you’re old enough, you can reflect on the time this eclipse occurred before—March 1987—and ponder the similarities. Perhaps you face a similar challenge, disappointment, or new opportunity. Through cycles, astrology often returns us to the same fork in the road. With each return, you’re definitely older and hopefully wiser. What will you choose this year?

Another way astrologers divine the meaning of eclipses is through Saros Cycles. Eclipses are grouped into “eclipse families” going back for hundreds of years. This particular cycle began in May 1501 and will end in June 2745. The Australian diva of eclipses—astrologer Bernadette Brady—says this eclipse family sparks inventiveness and flashes of genius.* Pay attention to your inner movement. You may receive intuitive leaps and insights or just get a really good idea. You may experience visions or vivid dreams. Don’t cheat yourself of the alone time necessary to draw in these eclipse inspirations. Realize that everyone needs a little space to undertake their own spring vision quest.

You won’t need days in the wilderness to get your vision. If you pay attention to signs, you’ll find there are many around you. I can see evidence of Aries messages in the budding apple tree in my backyard, the hyacinths and daffodils in my neighbor’s front yard, the stand of lilacs next to Wal-Mart, bursting with green. The same life force is stirring within me and within you too. It does, however, carry certain obligations, as the great dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, so beautifully described:

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action. And because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium, and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, or how valuable, or how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep the channel open. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that actuate you. Keep the channel open.

Understand that you are necessary to the world. The world is dreaming of something that only you can do. Why fear pursuing and expressing it? If you don’t have the courage to fulfill and enjoy your life, who else will? Let the Aries New Moon be a time to revel in a new surge of vitality. Feel the life force quickening within you, urging you toward something only you can do. Keep the channel open!
