Dear Caroline,
I have a question regarding structure.
I don’t have any major spinal problems but I do sit at a desk most days for long hours and experience pretty high levels of stress. I wait to go to the chiropractor until I find I’m no longer sleeping well and the little aches and pains are becoming more persistent. Then I’m sore from the adjustment for a little while but when I run my hand along my neck, spine, and hips it still doesn’t feel like things are in place. And it’s just a few days later and I’m out of whack again.
I believe that we should be able to heal our own bodies and I don’t want to keep getting adjustments, however, it seems to me the more I go the more often I feel I need to go. Is there a certain time frame I should allow for chiropractic to work for me? Is it even possible to get complete, total alignment and to have it stay in place?
Thank you for your consideration - I await your reply,
Janet T., Santa Rosa, CA
Dear Janet,
I love your letter and I have a great deal of respect for the healing practice of chiropractic. Did you know that chiropractors are among the first medical intuitives? Chiropractors use muscle testing, a skilled form of intuition to discern structural misalignments. Chiropractic adjustments can cure a headache, correct a gait, sort out digestive problems as well as correct numerous back or structural problems. They are masters at their craft.
The reason that chiropractic adjustments don’t hold for some people is that when toxins are held in the body, they can set up an inflammatory response in muscles or joints - thus affecting structure. Environmental toxins like air pollution, petrochemicals or additives can affect toxic levels. Heavy metals in the body can add to this load.
Even toxins consumed through foods and beverages can be a factor; coffee, sugar, sodas, chocolate. And don’t forget alcohol, coffee and drugs both prescription and recreational all affect the body’s subtle balance.
Wheat and flour based products can contribute to arthritis and joint stiffness are you eating bread?
Did you know that the consumption of dairy products can affect structure? There is a book “No Milk” by a chiropractor, Daniel Twogood D.C (Whilhelmina Books, 1991) that is a very interesting read. He claims with some certainty that his clients’ adjustments will “hold” as long as they don’t consume milk or dairy products which according to him create an inflammatory response in the body.
On the emotional level, structure is our house or framework. Structure is our foundation what we believe and how we live.
Take a look at your stress there may be an imbalance in the amount of work that you do in relationship to the amount of joy or fun you are experiencing.
Exercise is important. Swimming, walking and swinging your arms, yoga is a lovely way to enhance posture and agility and Pilates can change carriage adding a feeling of confidence. All of these exercise routines will strengthen structure.
As a medical intuitive, I rarely see structural misalignments. My intuitive eyes lead me to see the guts, organs, blood, systems etc. but I do know that when physical body functions are improved, not only will chiropractic adjustments hold, but more vitality and energy is experienced and that’s the benefit.
