"Spiritual Masterpiece" Named Book award Finalist
SANTA FE, NM (PRWEB) March 20, 2006 The groundbreaking book God Without Religion: Questioning Centuries of Accepted Truths by Sankara Saranam,
with a foreword by Arun Gandhi, has been selected as a finalist inForeWord Magazine’s 2005 Book of the Year Awards.
ForeWord’s Book of the Year awards, targeted to small presses, are respected by librarians, booksellers, and publishers nationwide. God Without Religion was chosen as a finalist from 1,540 book submissions in 55 categories. “Over the years ForeWord has had the distinct honor of
acknowledging and recognizing excellence in publishing from independent presses,” claims the magazine’s website. “This year, the seventh annual, was no exception.”
God Without Religion offers a much-needed bridge from dogmatic belief systems to progressive spirituality, providing seventeen techniques to help readers develop a direct understanding of God. Hailed as a “spiritual masterpiece,” singer Melissa Etheridge named it her “favorite book” in
October’s Organic Style magazine. Also in October, God Without Religion won the USA Book News Best Books 2005 Spirituality award.
God Without Religion has reached Americans at a crucial time. While religious beliefs continue to cause divisiveness at home and war overseas, Americans are getting fed up with organized religion and are actively seeking new ways to worship. “People are tired of the hypocrisy inherent in centralized religious authority,” says Saranam. “It's impossible to ignore because headlines are filled with it. For example, last week a group of lay Catholics in favor of reform called for top bishops to step down in light of sexual misconduct, while at the same time the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops rejected a request made by 55 House Democrats for room to disagree on the issue of abortion. Side by side, these events reveal the fundamental failure of organized religion's ethics: they repeatedly determine absolute right and wrong for behaviors without any appreciation for the social consequences. It is time for a return to the concept of God as the substance of self-awareness underlying everything. When God is recognized not as a punitive being outside ourselves but as an expansive inner sense of self, we automatically develop an all-inclusive spirituality that leaves no room for exclusiveness, moralizing, or a holier-than-thou attitude.”
Saranam, an ascetic, mystic, scholar, and teacher, is founder of The Pranayama Institute. A sought-after workshop leader and interview subject, he recently toured India to promote his book. For more information about his speaking engagements and teachings, please visit www.godwithoutreligion.com or www.pranayama.org.

Robin Rice Releases Latest Novel
Award winning author Robin Rice is releasing her latest novel, Venus for a Day, free on the internet. The novel chronicles the journey of Sydney Wellington, a former business exec living on a boat, who prays to "any God or Goddess listening that today be somehow different than yesterday, and the day before that." To her surprise, the Goddess of Love and Beauty shows up stark naked and ready to prepare her to seduce the Adonis living five boats down.
Much as in Rice's last novel, A Hundred Ways to Sunday (available in Spanish and German) the protagonist journeys towards self-realization is not an easy one. “For Sydney, the task is to uncover her feminine power,” says Rice. “This is a topic women really resonate with. Her focus on her 'thunder thighs' and other physical imperfections, but her real problem goes much deeper. What Venus teaches, by way of hellish tests and trials, is the path to rediscovering authentic passion."
Sydney’s story is really every woman’s story. “We all know a sister, friend or coworker who we see as beautiful and powerful, but that is not what she sees when she looks in the mirror. Reading Venus, which is a healing in and of itself, can change that, even if she only shows up on your bedside table."
Rice's marketing approach is simpleget her books out to as many people as possible by offering the printable Adobe file for free on the web. Rice is taking her cues from Gandhi, who admonished that we all be the change we wish to see in the world.
"To me, this means thinking way outside the current consumer marketing box, which the novel itself suggests the world is in need of,” says Rice. "Although most of us in the U.S. can easily afford a $18.95 sticker price for a printed book, many people around the world are not as fortunate. This model allows a readers to buy a printed copy if they decide they want one, or to make an optional donation if the novel touches them.”
Venus For a Day may be the ultimate girlfriend gift. For those looking for an inexpensive way to appreciate a friend and set them on the path to finding love, the free version is as easy to pass on as sending an email with a link in it.
Rice, a contemporary Shaman, lectures worldwide and has been published since 1984. She lives in Annapolis, MD. Venus For A Day and A Hundred Ways To Sunday can both be found free at http://www.bewhoyouare.com/.
