"The Body Knows" - ask a medical intuitive

by Caroline Sutherland
Dear Caroline,

I want to talk about my biggest problem - fatigue. I am always tired. I take tons of vitamins and sleep and over sleep. Still I am tired, tired, tired. Do you have an answer?

Mark A, Sacramento CA

Dear Mark,

America is fast becoming a nation of overtired people. Dr. William Crook, who wrote the book "Tired, So Tired" links this fatigue into the fascinating and multifaceted connection with the Yeast Syndrome.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, there is no reason to be tired. I have clients in their thirties and forties who are exhausted and others in their 80’s who have boundless energy.

What’s the key?

Longevity studies have shown that people who manage their blood sugars and who eat a low calorie diet tend to live longer. We know from health statistics in this country that our high carbohydrate and high calorie diets, contribute to poor health outcomes. Mood and energy swings can have a disastrous effect on work performance and relationships. Obesity and diabetes are on the rise – even in young people.

In my own life, as a 38 year old woman (I am now 62) I was always tired. It didn’t matter how much sleep I got, I woke up exhausted. I drank 3 cups of strong coffee and lots of sweets to get me stoked up for the day. But by 9:30am, I was ready to take a nap. In 1983, I entered the portals of Environmental Medicine (the human being in relationship to the environment) and my life would be forever changed. I discovered that I had multiple food allergies and was suffering from the yeast syndrome. For more information about Candida Albicans Yeast, check out Dr William Crook, MD and www.candida-yeast.com

Allergy testing revealed that an exposure to wheat and flour would make me tired, dairy products made me sneeze and the test for Candida Yeast brought on a pounding headache and extreme fatigue. What a shock.

I stopped taking flour based products and substituted them for 100% rye or rice and in order to eradicate the yeast, I had to take a herbal supplement and give up all my favorite sweets.

Well, you guessed it, within a few days, my energy came bouncing back. I felt and still feel like a 21 year old.

How did this happen?

I learned to manage my blood sugars - to be careful to have protein and very few carbs at each meal. Sweets became a rare treat – not a daily indulgence. Plus I lost weight – and still 22 years later, I maintain my ideal body weight without excessive exercise.

You can too.

1. Eat protein at each meal (beef, pork, lamb, turkey, chicken, fish, tofu, nuts seeds, hemp or beans) as well as vegetables and a small amount of starch – rice, potato, yam, squash etc.

2. Avoid sweets – eat only 1 piece of fruit per day – no juice. Vegetable juice is fine.

3. Take a supplement that eradicates Candida Yeast. A good holistic practitioner can help you or look for a variety of supplements at the health food store.

4. Research the reason for your fatigue. What are you tired of? Practical physical suggestions are useful but in looking deeper, you might find you are really tired of what you are doing with your life. Go within to find the answers.

5. Take supplements that boost your immune system. But supplements alone are not enough. In order to get the best results, the diet must be changed.

6. Daily exercise helps to oxygenate the cells, balance brain chemistry and enhance energy.

7. Go see your doctor before you start to make any lifestyle change. Make sure there is nothing more serious connected to your fatigue.
