"The Body Knows" - ask a medical intuitive

by Caroline Sutherland
Dear Caroline,

I am lying here healing from a crushed right leg as a result of a car accident. I am demoralized, immobilized and depressed. I have always been athletic, enjoying hiking, biking and weight training. Now I can barely walk with a leg full of metal. I am doing my best to be optimistic during my rehab, but my mind takes over and I feel myself sliding back into an abyss of self-pity. Help!

Eve M, Atlanta Georgia
Ruth, Chicago, Ill

Dear Eve,

This injury represents an identity crisis and a major turning point in your life. My thoughts are with you and as I read your letter, I feel blessed to have my own healthy physical body. At times like this, when there is no where to turn, we need to turn inward and ask the inner teacher for a way to heal and evolve through the experience.

Many years ago one of my children went through a difficult period. As a mother, I was very distraught. I sat quietly and asked my inner wisdom and spiritual guidance for an image that would quiet my mind and give me hope. I saw my daughter dive into a beautiful lake. As she went through her treatment, she was swimming just below the surface of the water. Her whole body was submerged. As I checked into the image each day, I could see she was making progress. One day, a few fingers appeared above the surface of the water. A few days later, both of her hands, then her arms and head and so on. She continued to make progress until the images showed me that she had reached the shore on the other side of the lake. She walked out of the water (the deep subconscious) gathered up her belongings and carried on her path. I could see that she would be completely healed and these images were a great comfort to me.

It is at times like these we need inspiration. We need to feel inspired by people who have recovered from far worse trauma and who have overcome far greater difficulties. Look around you, read stories, ask others to share their journey of recovery. I know you will do it.

Right now, you are in the valley. Just be there in the valley of pain and misery – really feel it. Take all the time you need. Then slowly as you rehabilitate and make progress, your optimism will return. Picture a complete healing in your mind as well as many unexpected "gifts" in the process.

In the meantime, I am reminded of a song by Karen Drucker, "I am so blessed, I am so blessed, I am so grateful, I am so blessed.

Dear Caroline,

I just turned 55 this week and I am thinking about all the hype around anti-aging! What is your take on a process that though slightly alarming, is natural and inevitable?

Sandra B. Miami Florida

Dear Sandra,

Aging is a normal and yes inevitable process of life. Guru’s and mystics tell us that we do not have to age and we can turn back the hands of time. They even suggest that we can reverse the aging process and I believe them. Who would not want to be ageless and live forever?

I believe that the wave of the future in anti-aging and physical adeptness resides in the power of the mind. Are we willing to believe that this is so? Are we willing to sacrifice our current lifestyle and develop this incredible mind power?

Most of us want to live in the world. We want to live a wonderful life and enjoy an enviable level of optimism, health and fulfillment. On this plane of existence, if aging is inevitable, let’s do it consciously.

Here are some of my favorite points which help me to live a life of passion with vitality.

* Be on purpose. Albert Schweitzer one of my childhood inspirational mentors, said "seek a purpose that occupies you fully and one to which there is never an end." An unfolding purpose keeps us engaged in life.

* Keep your body clear and free of toxins. Drink plenty of pure water. Poisons and addictions, like coffee, sugar and alcohol weaken the system and prevent us from having the energy and stamina with which to complete our purpose. Keep exposures to these items minimal.

* Meditate, pray or get quiet every day. In this deep state of repose time seems to stand still and the aging process slows down. Mystics and high spiritual teachers, like the Dalai Lama, who meditate every day, seem composed, relaxed and younger than their years.

* Laugh and enjoy life. Having an optimistic attitude is healing and youth promoting.

* Be at peace with what is. Author and teacher Byron Katie (recently interviewed in the AARP Magazine) speaks of "Loving What Is." Katie teaches that when we accept things as they are, we relax and settle down. This profound act of accepting, creates the space around which things can change.

* Be an inspiration - as you uplift others, you uplift yourself. Being positive keeps us young.

* Get up early with the dawn and smell the flowers or listen to the birds. You have the world to yourself for a while. This is the great gift of appreciation.

* Get into bed by around 10pm and connect to the healing ministrations of the angels and the spiritual world while you sleep. It is believed that we go to the "halls of learning" while we sleep. There we are educated toward our higher purpose here on earth.

* Be at peace with your past, your parents, your childhood memories and your mistakes. Everything that you have experienced has made you who you are today. Forgiveness takes time – it’s a process. As we forgive, a healing current enters the body and our burdens are much lighter.

* Rejoice and give thanks for the fact you are alive. Many people would give anything to be you!
