Tarot: Gigi Miner's Ethyrial Tarot
Should I Stay or Should I Go

Choices are the things of which nightmares are made. We are not talking about whether to have a latte or a mocha. This is about those choices that seem to reach deeper into our souls. I have watched people struggle with decisions to the point of doing nothing and letting the pieces fall where they may. I have also watched as some rush into a situation with no forethought whatsoever, hoping that their mere speed might push through any obstacles. Ultimately, neither is usually the best choice.
Our card this month is the Two of Wands from the Ethyrial Tarot ©. We see a foggy camp. In the foreground is a wand. Far to the other end of this camp is another wand, which seems to glow. This is an 18th century military camp. If we travel back in time, we do not have the surveillance technology of today. Intruders were found when they were seen or heard. Thus, it was very important to remain quiet and hidden if you were some place that you were not supposed to be. One might look at this card and wonder if the person holding the front-most wand is willing to risk being discovered in order to attain that glowing wand. Can they have both or do they have to choose only one?

Wands often represent the spiritual aspects of our lives. They can show up when we are in need of something more than the mundane. There are times in our lives when we need more and want more. That inner yearning will seem to eat away at us until we either silence it or give it our attention. Choices are very effective ways in which to spur on spiritual changes. If one believes in synchronicity, the idea that there are no coincidences and that everything happens for a reason, then a choice lying before us is an opportunity to take another step forward in our spiritual lives as well as our physical ones.
Consider a conundrum. A friend confides in you a very deep and dark secret. You have promised to keep this secret. Once you part company, the conversation eats at you and you feel that perhaps your friend may be in danger. Do you tell someone or do you keep that secret as promised? There is no right answer to this as each situation is unique. However, there certainly is a spiritual aspect to the decision, as well as one that will affect the friendship. The decision that you make will affect your path. We each have certain points in time where a seemingly simple choice can alter our course. If you look back over your life, you might be able to see such points and the results of each one. Hindsight is always so clear, is it not? If only we could see forward and make the correct decisions. The question comes into play, are there any “right” choices? Each change of course in our lives leads to an experience. Each experience leads us to become what we are on the inside. In spite of the pain and the difficulties, those who have made a few “wrong” choices tend to be more inclined to wisdom. If this is the case, then I should be neigh unto Solomon. J
I have a bumper sticker on a board near my desk. It reads, “Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from poor judgement.” If you have a few years under your belt, this makes perfect sense. If we look back at our card, we remember that we are in a military camp. Our goal is at the opposite end. In order to achieve our goal, we must risk our lives. Okay, so perhaps today’s decisions are not quite so melodramatic, but each choice involves some kind of risk. We might risk our ego by being willing to be wrong. We might risk money on an investment that looks too good to pass up. We might risk our hearts hoping that this one is THE ONE. Whatever the reward, there is risk in pursuing it. Before that comes the choice. Do we stay or do we go?
With our bumper-sticker experience, we learn to make better decisions for ourselves. It takes time and it takes many stumbles. Given the depth of pain that can sometimes follow a poor choice, we may be hesitant to make them. Riding the current can be tempting and, for a time, it may even be necessary. Yet, we come back to our lives and we come back to the fact that we are in charge of them. We are the ones who have to live with the outcomes, whether we make a decision or not. Would it not be better at least to live with a result from your own power rather then not? If I were to live with a mistake, I would prefer it to be one of my own making then one thrust upon me by someone else. Many who may be reading this have likely experience periods of helplessness; times in your life where someone else forced a decision upon you. Do you remember how that felt? Maybe you have suppressed that so as not to feel that kind of agony. Remembering is necessary for survival. When someone else holds power over us, we become victims. When we reclaim our power, we no longer are subject to the whims of another. If we foul up the situation, at least it is ours. Making a mistake is not the end of the world. In fact, it is the beginning of a wonderful journey of self-exploration.
Our wands remind us that there is more to this world then what we see around us. There is an inner world that feeds the outer. When we nourish our souls, the rest seems to impact us less. This does not mean that we do not have daily troubles with life in general. However, a well-fed soul does not easily panic or fall prey to daily pressures. Sometimes we have to take that chance. Sometimes we have to rush toward that wand on the far side of things in order to know something that we did not know before. Occasionally, we will appear the fool, but is not the Fool the beginning of our tarot journey? This is where we start our adventure and learn things that we would not learn if we did not take that first step.
Our Two of Wands gives us that chance, that fleeting possibility. A choice is the beginning of potential. It is an adventure into our lives that no one else can have for us. When we take our power and make our own decisions, they are ours. For good or for bad, for right or for wrong, we have taken control over our lives and sent the energy flowing for our future. At the final round, we can sing with Sinatra, “I did it MY way.”

Gigi Miner is a minister, ordained by the Universal Life Church, and has a Doctorate of Motivation from the same.
“One of the greatest benefits of Tarot is being able to take control of your life rather then be a victim of it,” is the motto of this professional Tarot consultant, author, and teacher, from upstate New York.
Moonlighting as an adult education instructor, Gigi brings that experience into her Tarot and writing work, helping clients and readers to find their own inner wisdom. Gigi has taught classes on tarot in regular and e-formats.
Believing that "laughter is the best medicine,” there is often a lighter tone to her teachings. When conducting an adult-education class, one of the main questions she asks is, "Are you having fun?” If the answer is "yes" then she knows that her students are learning more then if she were teaching in a more traditional mode.
Gigi has written articles for various newsletters, including Tarot Celebrations, World Tarot Network, and Gateway to Tarot. She has released a book entitled, “Light-of-Day Tarot & Dream Work,” which is available at www.lulu.com/ladyfogg.
Her Novel, “Card Shark” is now available at all online bookstores or by visiting:

Her next release, "The Fallen" is due out later this year."
