Sharon Atia: There exists a physical law of preservation of energy. Does this law apply in the spiritual world? Are our spiritual attainments, gained in the present incarnation, preserved in the future reincarnations?
Michael Laitman: Turning back we clearly see that regardless of our attainments in the present incarnation, we die along with possessions of this world. Of course, I do not mean the spiritual attainments.
No mathematician will benefit from his scientific achievements in his next incarnation. But his past spiritual attainments will follow him in the next reincarnations.
In effect, a person is born absolutely different and starts everything from ground zero: he does not understand anything, he can neither read nor write and he does not hear or see. Only God knows which society he was born into and when he will come to Kabbalah.
It is possible that, in a given incarnation, a person had been on the spiritual path for a long time, had been studying Kabbalah his whole life, then died, and suddenly, in his new incarnation, he was born somewhere in India and started learning something there.
Sharon Atia: Does it mean that here is a certain problem in the spiritual progress as it is not consequent, not unceasing?
Michael Laitman: It is perfectly said about the law of preservation of energy, that the whole system of the world’s creation, including all the souls in it, is an enclosed system. There exists a certain construction called Creation, the human being or soul, which are all the same entity. It was initially created in a form of the desire to be filled with the One who created it — the Creator, the Upper Light.
This construction is a strict, constant and fixed structure, and the interrelations between its parts never change. In essence, this structure is called the world of souls. It is built like our bestial body, where there are more important and less important parts, various organs and cells.
The construction—Creation—is also divided in general and in particular into Moach, Atzamot, Gidin, Basar and Ohr (brain, bones, tendons, muscles and skin). Between all these parts there exists tight, direct, absolute and stable connection.
Researchers of nature in our world have discovered that our organism also works in a way that its every cell is connected with all the other cells. It lives not for itself, but for the sake of the needs of all the other cells. Within itself, it only receives what it needs to serve the whole organism.
An organism that works like this is considered to be healthy: every cell receives vitally important nutrition only to the extent that is necessary for it to serve all other cells of the organism. This is a fair principle for both cells and organs, as well for the organism’s entire system.
Being a scientist — having specialized in the area of medical cybernetics and informational connections in the organism — I speak about this from the scientific point of view.
If any cell begins to receive more than is necessary for serving the organism, it then turns into malignant cell. Why does it receive more than it needs? Expressed in human notions, it starts feeling inner anxiety, as if it lacks something. In other words, it does not believe, so to speak, that the organism will provide it with all the necessary things.
It follows that various kinds of cancer can be treated by means of decreasing the level of inner anxiety, the uneasiness of the human organism, and increasing the level of joy, the sensation of happiness and perfection. As is shown in the results of empirical research, it works exactly in this way.
To exist in this system of creation in the most ideal form, we, its separate cells, have to realize that we are particular elements of this system and, in general, that we have to live only for its needs. This construction will then function ideally, and we will enjoy it. We will live in the absolute Light, the collective, highest level of existence, and in the state of completely perfect form.
In order to develop a desire for this state—to understand how perfect and eternal it is, and once we have chosen it by our own free will — we have to come to it from the opposite state.
In the opposite state there is no connection between all the souls, or rather, there is no understanding that we are actually connected into one body. Scientists will also have to discover their mistake; to realize that they are really in the state of concealment and do not feel how strict and stable is the structure where all souls, all its elements, are connected into a united organism.
Every soul has to discover that all its work is exclusively for its own wellbeing, that it does not work for the benefit of the whole organism. This means that it has to discover that it is devoured by malignant tumor by one hundred per cent. Once having realized this evil, the soul will desire to attain such a state, when independently, according to its own decision, it will be able to reunite with the body, attaining the altruistic powers of bestowal. In other words, these powers are called: “love thy neighbor as thyself," and "one man and one heart"...
Thus having come back to the general system, a soul receives all the abundance it contains in order to satisfy all the other souls, or cells, and then it feels eternity and perfection.
Sharon Atia: What is actually taking place?
Michael Laitman: All souls have to pass through the realization of evil: to see that the form of their lives is opposite to the true existence, that this is the reason for their separation from it, and the reason why they neither feel nor understand it. They have to gradually realize the state they are in and wish to return to the good state. After this realization, they ask for the power of correction, or for the power of interconnection between the souls.
When this power of interrelation comes, everybody will unite into one general system "as one man and one heart." "And everybody will know Me from young to old." "Everybody will become a united society." It is written about this in many sources. Actually, it is the goal.
Sharon Atia: About the above-mentioned law of preservation of energy. If a person has attained anything in the spiritual while living in this world, in this incarnation, are his spiritual attainments accumulated, preserved in a “spiritual gene,” in order to continue his spiritual ascent in the further incarnations? Or will he have to build, to carve out his spiritual way anew in every incarnation?
Michael Laitman: We should not build anything. Everything has already been built for us. We only have to renew, to rebuild our correct attitude in relation to all other souls. The system exists and nothing has changed except for the realization by each soul of its relationship to the life of the whole organism.
Sharon Atia: In other words: if we, people, realize the meaning of our existence in the most profound way and pass it by inheritance to our children, then will our life return to the right direction in near time?
Michael Laitman: Certainly! If today I taught children who start feeling the question "What is the meaning of my life?" already at the age of six, seven, or eight years of age, having something in this life and not understanding what this world exists for, why they are in it, and so on... (such problems do not leave young people alone), then I would not allow such a person to suppress this question by various advertisements and nonsense. I would help a young person to develop in a natural way. Then his development would be such that at the age of fifteen, twenty or thirty years (it is unimportant at what age exactly) he would reach the Final Correction — Gmar Tikkun.
Sharon Atia: Does it mean that in this reality, wishing to make a step forward, we, actually, make two steps backward?
Michael Laitman: We, really, make two steps backward; however, these steps are necessary to reveal in us the darkness to such an extent that we would be able to realize that we have to go to the Light.
We are working for this to happen in a positive way: the revelation of the Lights in our world but not the revelation of darkness. In general, Kabbalists write about the war of "Gog and Magog." Baal HaSulam writes about the third and the fourth atomic and hydrogen world wars. Indeed, it seems as if there is something to fear. He says that after all these wars there will remain a very small amount of people who will start working on correction and will lead to the state when the common body of all souls, or the whole of this system, will come back to the corrected reality.
We hope that we will move from the dead point and will launch all this process with the help of the Upper Light, the Upper Force. We will strive for good and we will not need to run away from evil. If we strive forward for a good, fair, perfect and eternal state, then everybody will feel good. There will be no need for wars and conflicts with the whole humanity.
It depends exclusively on study and circulation of the Science of Kabbalah.
Sharon Atia: Do the two realities: the reality of the Light and the reality of darkness already exist?
Michael Laitman: Yes.
Sharon Atia: What is in our power to do?
Michael Laitman: We can only choose independently how to move forward: to strive for a better state with the help of the Light or move in darkness by blows and sufferings. The difference is only in our sensations: to do one and the same thing, from good, with pleasure and inspiration, or with pain and anxiety. That is all.
I have to, and here I have no free choice; to come the whole way from one edge and move to another. Everything depends on my free will, what is actually called free choice: to agree with this or not.
Sharon Atia: It means you are speaking about a state where two realities exist: good and evil. It is like rails...
Michael Laitman: True. But we do not decide to drive or not to drive by these rails. We only decide to move by good or by bad. To move by good means to move quickly and happily. To move by bad is as if you are being driven to concentration camp; this is what all our life will gradually start to look like.
Sharon Atia: In other words, we could have passed through the period of The Second World War much easier?
Michael Laitman: Indeed. We could have not experience the Second World War at all! Kabbalists, and Baal HaSulam in particular, were all were warning us that terrible events would come because we do not want to unite ourselves, we do not want to live according to the principle "everyone for everybody."
Sharon Atia: Are you saying that there is another world where neither Holocaust nor all these sufferings have ever existed, and we could have passed through it, but had missed this opportunity?
Michael Laitman: If back then we could have come, by the virtue of the Light shining on us a bit more intensively, to the present realization of evil which had been accumulated during the past century, we would have then felt what terrible darkness we were in. Instead of getting innumerable blows, feeling this darkness and suffering, I would see better life, and then I would understand what terrible darkness I was in, comparing it with this wonderful life. It is movement that either perceives Light or perceives darkness.
Sharon Atia: Can we say that there are two ways laid before a person: good and evil, life and death?
Michael Laitman: No, these are not two ways. There is only one way. I am standing in Point A and I can get to Point B by two ways. Due to the fact that the Light shines on me from Point B, I aspire there and come to the final goal. But if nothing gives me Light, then the darkness becomes so great that it pushes me to come to Point B. What is the difference?
Moving in the darkness, I undergo wars, I pass through various roundabout paths until I attain the realization of evil and come to see that this life and this world are good for nothing. Who knows how many blows I need to receive to come to such conclusion? If, through studying the Science of Kabbalah, I draw upon myself the Light that is shining before me, then my life improves. I strive for good. I already have a presentiment of it, and I wait for it. Moreover, the way I passed through the darkness over one hundred years, can be passed in just two years with the help of the Light.
Sharon Atia: So the difference lies in whether you are pushed or you strive? If you are pushed — you feel pain, if you are striving — you feel good.
Michael Laitman: You said it perfectly.
