While this column is designed to teach some astrological sophistication without studying a horoscope -which means any MetaHelper can put together astrological insights to help others with informed and productive discussion without formally being an astrologer- we did introduce the Ephemeris in the second article, and we explored how to read it smoothly (please see the Archives). The Ephemeris shows the position of each planet every day for a hundred years or more.
If we look into the Ephemeris for planetary positions right now, say, in November 2003, we can know very reliably just what major life-changes are in the offing for which people! We do this by linking the positions of the planets Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus to relationships with the individual's Sun position, which is determined by the birth date. Sounds technical, but it is so easy.
Where the Sun is: You know that the signs of the Zodiac "change" around the 20th or 21st of every month, and you certainly know those signs pretty much in order. For example, Aries begins on March 21, and the Sun, marking that date, then moves onward one degree a day! On March 30, the Sun will be at 9 degrees of Aries. If you were born on March 30, your natal Sun is at 9 degrees of Aries; and that's that.
On April 20, we see the beginning of Taurus. If you are born on April 25th, your natal Sun is in the 5th degree of Taurus (5 ').
Another example: we know that Sagittarius begins on November 22. Sixteen days later, the Sun will be in 16 degrees of Sagittarius, i.e., your birth date being December 8, sixteen days after November 22. -And that happens to be the position at the present time of transiting (moving in real time) Pluto (À) : 17-18 Sagittarius ( ). And this means that transiting Pluto will be conjunct ("on top of," so to speak) your birth date Sun, if you are born December 8 or 9. This is written tr. À Â ¢ .
This is very, very strong symbology. Pluto is the farthest planet from the Sun, the slowest moving planet in the Solar System; its archetype is formidable. In relation to the Sun, there is usually a correspondence with tremendous change of perspective in the life. There is usually a big identity change created out of events and plans over a period of about a year and a half. The results are usually far-reaching indeed. Often, we are not surprised that a death in the extended family can mark parts of this change of life perspective. There is a change of status that is often remarkable.
So, it is safe to say, that anyone born between December 8 and 11 in any year should recognize this life-change description, right now, in the Fall of 2003! If the person is active, involved with life, putting energy into the environment, there is going to be strong feedback that will alter status, change direction, adjust values, and affect identity … right now! --How is the person handling the pressures, the surprises, the decisions?
Additionally, this transiting Pluto relationship with the natal Sun also sets up 90-degree relationships (squares) and an opposition aspect with other birthday Suns as well.
This means that, at present -Novemberish 2003-- in addition to anyone born in any year between December 8 and 11 (Sagittarius), we can anticipate this driving shift in life perspective for anyone born in any year September 8-11 (17-18 degrees Virgo), March 6-9 (17-18 Pisces), or June 7-10 (17-18 Gemini). [Sagittarius, Virgo, Pisces, and Gemini are a "Mutable" family of signs all linked together in the specific degree-area by the presence of transiting Pluto in 17-18 Sagittarius.]
Transiting Neptune (©) Neptune is a planet of the aesthetics, of the amorphous, also of camouflage and suppression, of bewilderment, confusion, and aloneness. For most people, the time signaled by transiting Neptune in relationship to the natal Sun presents challenges that most times depress rather than lift up. During a protracted period of about a year or more, we are drawn into our deepest vulnerabilities; wounds are reopened or new, often inexplicable pains enter the psyche. These are times of re-evaluation, of trying to get things clear once again.
In the Fall of 2003, people feeling this most are those with their natal Sun around 10 Aquarius (&Mac221;), i.e., born any year between January 29 and 31. Additionally: those born any year between April 29 and May 1 (Taurus ') , November 1 and 3 (Scorpio &Mac247;) , or August 1 and 3 (Leo o).
Transiting Uranus (¨) The astrological symbolism of Uranus is that of intensification, individualism, rebellion with a cause, chance-taking, eruption, separations. This Fall 2003, transiting Uranus is just leaving the sign of Aquarius and entering the sign of Pisces, relating strategic or wanton upheaval to the following natal Suns: anyone born February 17-19 in any year (Aquarius &Mac221;); May 18-21 (Taurus '), November 20-22 (late Scorpio &Mac247;, very early Sagittarius ); August 21-24 (late Leo o, very early Virgo -).
Bonus Insight Remember when we tracked the planet Saturn through its orbit in relation to changes for all of us in social development [see Archives]? Recall the "Saturn Return" that occurs for all of us between the ages of 28 and 30. It's the time when practically everyone's life changes direction and/or level conspicuously.
With the time emphasis of this column focused on the Fall of 2003, we can add this insight: transiting Saturn is at 6-13 Cancer ("). This marks the Saturn return to its natal position for those about 28 years old: all people born between June and August 1974 or February-June 1975. -No doubt about it.
Keeping up to date Think about these cycles and positions. Wait for a rainy day and learn more about the Ephemeris. Learn after the pattern shown here above: how to see where the life-changer planets are in any given month and relate those positions to strong relationship with the Sun for those born within specific day-spans. The birth date establishes the Sun's location and the signs determine the tension relationship potential with the transiting "heavies." The signs that go together in high-tension constructs are Aries ('), Libra (-), Cancer ("), and Capricorn (x); Taurus ('), Leo (o), Scorpio (&Mac247;), and Aquarius (&Mac221;); Gemini ("), Virgo (-), Sagittarius (), and Pisces (œ).
When you take stock of all the 10 articles we have shared in this library -if you've dug into all the lessons- it is no surprise that you know much more about astrology than many, many people out there (including some astrology students I've met!) … and we've never yet looked at a horoscope! You can use all of it most sensitively through your own MetaArts discipline and be helpful to others.
