Divination Systems: Be Your Oracle
Follow Your
Internalized Symbols
|
|
 |
by James Wanless, Ph.D |
|
|

One of the greatest benefits of working with tarot is internalizing their symbols, which means to be able to call upon them at will for assistance. Tarot's pictorial archetypes are symbols buried deep within human consciousness and with their activation, they inspire and guide us. But these powerful images are often only educed when working with the cards.
By constant use of the cards we actually have a readymade set of symbols useful for any occasion at any time. All we have to do is recall and follow them. For years, working with Voyager cards, I have naturally internalized this "map of life" a map that is contemporary and yet ancient and universal.
Each archetype provides as an inner guide for any issue. For business, I call upon the Emperor archetype; for relationships, the Lovers; for any kind of manifestation, the Magician; for truth and wisdom about anything, the Priestess; for creativity, the Empress.
All you need to do is visualize the archetype card and either dialogue with the figure and or use the symbols within it and let them spark your intuition. Trust the simplicity. It's not about book knowledge, it's about your natural intuitiveness.
The following is an example of how I use an internalized symbol. Just recently, after working at an Intuition Institute in Florida, I was free, completely free, no plan, no schedule, no goal... for a whole 36 hours before the next event in another town. Yikes, what to do? Aha! Follow the inner symbol map.
The Voyager Card which immediately came to me in my mind's eye (I call this "mind's eye tarot" simply allow a card to appear and settle in your inner vision) was the archetypal Hermit, which exists in all classic tarot decks.
The Hermit archetype tells my intuition it's time to rest and regenerate, and the best, best way to truly restore and recover is to be alone!
Instead of feeling lost and lonely, it was a lovely, fulfilling experience because there was purpose for just being with myself really, really caring for myself, nurturing my soul, and rewarding my body. I call this "soulitude."
But how does the Hermit in me suggest I do that? Follow the intuitive impulse! Go with the intuitive emotion that simply makes you feel good. In my case, going to a deserted beach over in Sarasota on the Gulf side of Florida. Float in the calm, warm azure water (the Hermit in me this time is healing sans massage). Walk on the beach in the exquisite evening breeze and collect those spiral shells I call the "dancing ladies."
And hummmmmm. Yes, hum. Humming to yourself is the "inner massage." I call it the "singing cure." Hummmmm....it feels so, so good, and so comforting.
I'm hungry. Now, what to eat? Of course, comfort food...mashed potatoes and meat loaf. Comfort and loafing and reflecting and writing. What a perfect one-day, one-man's vacation. I was in heaven, thanks to my inner Hermit.
