I went into shock, when years ago, I submitted the idea that THE biggest massage magazine on the planet should have a column based on Spirituality. Therapists could write in and give their ideas on how they stayed centered and the ways in which they touched the face of God. The editor turned away the idea of adding the topic Spirituality because she thought it might be too edgy! So that of being the most emotional, engaging and trusted job, the healing arts professional, doesn’t need a Spiritual base?
That just made me realize that I must step up, or out, to suggest, plant a seed if you will, inform or any other edict that states there is no successful business without some kind of trust and connection with Spirit. Spirit is our employer. That’s why every successful person insists that you must find your passion and the money will follow. Being a holistic professional is based on connection with that Power and pointing others in that direction. Isn’t that what we, as creative types, have chosen to do? Accept the discipline to connect with Spirit and then give back?
The reason business people fry out, hit a wall, give up, etc. is that they have no INNER discipline. They choose to run in the hamster wheel of EGO thinking they are in control and forcing that direction based on fear. After awhile they can’t seem to figure out why they are so exhausted.
The passion way, the key to success, is based on blending our Life Force with THE Life Force. We start the mindful intention to connect as soon as our feet hit the ground every morning. If you would like inner guidance pick up the phone!
Meditation~ IT IS THE INTENTION TO CONNECT.
Does God Pick Out Your Zucchini?
When you are asking for guidance from the Universe~ do you know where the line is drawn between large tasks that God can handle and small ones that you can take care of on your own?
When I was a child and raised under the roof of a Christian religion with strict guidelines, I was trained only to bother God when it came to big, important stuff. The level of ranking was based on what the people of the church decided and that was based on books written long ago by other people.
God decided things like, where my soul was going to end up when I die, wars won or lost, who’s side God was on~ and funny thing God was always on our side, stuff like that. Religion is a group of people that agree on the same tenants of what God does and looks like.
Spirituality, on the other hand, is finding your own interpretation of God. You are inviting the Devine to come closer and be known. And in that discipline of openness you are also being guided with every breath. It would be years before I hit a bottom, with my need to control my life, that I would have the desperate courage to really ask God for help.
I pretty much kept this religious, structured, dogma as part of my understanding of God until I was 12. I then came to a place where, starting to think for myself, I questioned why WE had the only God and everyone else was wrong. I had many friends then and later, from different religions. They seemed fine to me so I couldn’t believe that they were all going to hell. Could I have been raised more arrogant? I was also told that if I didn’t keep up with the edicts of my religion, I was going to hell too. Well that was just fine with me because there was no way I could live up to these flawed beliefs anyway. And with that my long and arduous experimentation with drugs and alcohol began. There had to be another way to find God and at least down this path I could escape, for a while, by being comfortably numb.
Years passed, I partied and experimented with all kinds of psycadelics, peyote, mushrooms, pot and the like. Oh, and did I mention alcohol? I did manage to see God in some of those journeys but filling the hole from the outside in, and trying to seek any kind of guidance from the Devine, was just glimpses and always fast fleeting.
It’s funny how the body, like a car, wears out when it is not maintained. Through those years my health had not been a priority. I had reached the place of being sick and tired of being sick and tired. One good thing I had realized using this form of experimentation~ I also hadn’t been struck dead, by the ancient God of my youth, for being so rebellious. It was more like I had run amuck all by myself! By the time I was 40, I had crossed off all of the drugs, that weren’t working for me, except alcohol. It was my one reliable drug of choice finally leading me to a dead end road with no hope of survival. All of the choices I had made were self-will run riot and I was scared.
The epiphany came, I remember, when I was washing a kitchen floor on my knees. Exhausted from the thirty year run from an angry, punishing God, I looked up to the sky and asked any God for help. This is where I learned that 911 prayers count. It was time to come out of the cold and force myself to safety. It came to me in a flash thought~ my life would count for something.
I had learned that I could rest under the roof of alcoholics anonymous. It was suggested that I join the group in my early 20’s but I wasn’t ready to stop the madness. This had become a methodically, familiar, lifestyle that I had cultivated by running my own show.
I showed up to my first meeting and started attending on a regular basis. Little did I know that for every end there is a new beginning and AA turned out to be an unexpected gift! Here in this house with these people it was suggested that I learn to find the God of my understanding. It took awhile and some trust, but then and to this day I have filled the hole with a God that is Love and goodness. One of the things I learned in AA is to give my will and life to this Power, greater than myself, daily and sometimes moment-by-moment. This has worked for me.
Meditation and prayer were my new edicts and each morning I would make time to connect with this power for gratitude, guidance and prayer. We were taught that the God of our understanding guides us in all things not just what we deem fit or special from a stratus hierarchy of importance. The tiniest ant is important. It was brought to my attention, by a very wise woman that helped me along my path, that God needs to influence all things that enter my life including picking out my zucchini!
If this paradigm is not understood, WE start defining what we do and do not think is of importance to God, we don’t want to bother God with such menial things as zucchini or our checking accounts, etc. But at what point does the grey area begin between what we take care of and what God takes care of? When do we become children of a lesser God or a greater one? God is or God isn’t.
I decided to let God’s guidance be seamless and it has become so much easier than delegating. You see, we humans are control freaks and we like to think we can control everything just fine. Then we find ourselves in a pickle because we are now carrying the weight of the world on our back and not giving ourselves permission to connect with a Higher Power. This is the shit happens part.
So remember each morning sit, be still, breathe and start your day in meditation asking for guidance. AND always take God with you even to the store and ask for guidance even when it comes to picking out your zucchini ~that way you never have to wonder who’s in charge. Take in each breath of life you are given, it will change your life and allow you to give away those perceived burdens you hold on to that cause physical and mental ill health.
