Excerpt from Donna's e-book:
The Outer Planets and Inner Live, Volume 2: Outer Planet Aspects to Venus and Mars. |

The Galvanizing Power of
Mars and Pluto
|
|
|
by Donna Cunningham, MSW |
|
|
Galvanize always seems a good keyword for Mars-Pluto aspects, for these people can catalyze a powerful response in situations they touch. For the response to be positive, however, the energies of these two planets need to be clear and clean in expression, as free of negativity as possible. When their influence is used constructively, they can catalyze healing, growth, and change on anywhere from the personal to societal level. Suppose, however, that their behavior is fueled by old resentments, ill will, self-righteousness, and a desire to dominate or avenge. Then their actions are likely to be devastating to those who are more vulnerable and to invite retaliation from those who are less vulnerable.
Furthermore, the magical power of attraction that is typical of this aspect can draw in either positive outcomes or negative ones, depending on the focus of attention. If the mind continually dwells on grievances and projects negative thoughts, then that considerable power will magnetize exactly the negative outcome that is being projected. As this loop recurs over and over, the negative outlook is reinforced “There, you see, I knew it would turn bad on me.”
However, if the individual with this aspect focuses attention on a desired goal and is convinced that the desire will manifest, then there can be an almost instantaneous and seemingly magical manifestation of the goalPROVIDED THERE’S NO UNDERLYING AMBIVALENCE TO COUNTERACT THAT DESIRE. That second clause is the trick, and considerable soul searching may be required to dialogue with parts of the self that oppose or subvert the goal. Consider, however, that there may be good reasons behind the ambivalence. Sometimes the Higher Self blocks a desired end, having information, wisdom, and a longer-range perspective that the personality self doesn’t have.
Those Mars-Pluto natives who’ve gone a long way toward purifying anger and the need to control others have an even greater responsibility to know when impure motives and emotional responses creep in, as they inevitably do from time to time for even near-saints. Rage, denied and driven into the unconscious, can be laser-like in its power to wound.
The danger of Mars-Pluto types wounding others with their rage isn’t limited to verbal or physical expressionstheir considerable capacity to channel energy on a mental and psychic level is as readily turned to wounding as to healing others. There’s no more dangerous and implacable foe than a magician or metaphysician who becomes a loose cannon due to grandiosity and denial of less saintly motives. Justifiable anger isn’t a luxury the healer or shaman can afford, for it’s all too easy for darker motives from the subconscious to fuel the fire. Mars-Pluto aspects entail a great responsibility for self-control.
Angerthe Nemesis of Mars-Pluto People
Anger can be an asset, a source of healing, and a stimulus to needed change, though many Mars-Pluto people would find that idea nearly impossible to accept. Many had harrowing childhood experiences with the ways anger was expressed by their precariously balanced role models. The disempowered type of male discussed earlier may have been part of the householdand of the problem. The threat of loss or abandonment, should an argument ensue, seemed ever-present, and children can equate such losses with death.
Sometimes the early home life featured subtly menacing undercurrents, sometimes overt mayhem or sadism. Most often, long intervals of seething, silent rage were interspersed with memorable and frightening explosions. Many of them concluded that anger is dangerous and that conflict is to be avoided at all costs. These childhood terrors cast long shadows, especially upon love, family, and friendship ties in adulthood.
As adults, when anger arises in relationships of any sort, as it inevitably does at some point, they’re likely to cut the offender out of their lives rather than work to resolve the conflict. Some of them avoid relationships because they don’t know how to deal with arguments.
Those who cowered in fear of an abuser may be cowering still, yet the ways they manage conflict and anger in close ties can be especially problematic. Afraid of overt conflict, they often bend over backwards to avoid it, stuffing their anger until it becomes a poisonous backlog. No one can nurse a grudge over longer periods of time and with greater satisfaction than these folks can. Shame-based fears of isolation and abandonment may draw them into highly toxic relationships, even abusive situations that mirror childhood nightmares. Those who identified with the abuser can be aggressive and even abusive in adulthood.
Shown in the table on the next page are tools that have helped Plutonian people. The tools include flower remedies, bodywork, and energy work. Insight-oriented therapy helps, unless it’s misused as a way to dwell on grievances rather than to work them through. Support groups of people from similar backgrounds can heal the shame and alienation of toxic secrets.
Forgivenessperhaps an end point rather than a goalhas worked magic in dissolving old hurts, proving far more healing for the one who was wounded than for the one who did the harm. There are many fine books about forgiveness, but they come and go out of print so quickly, I hesitate to recommend any. Searching on Google with the keywords “forgiveness +books” resulted in a long list of sites, but an especially useful one was The Forgiveness Web at: http://www.forgivenessweb.com/RdgRm/Book%20reviews.htm. Any of the books you resonate with can easily be purchased on line through the site.

Donna Cunningham,
Astrologer
& Healer |

|
Donna Cunningham is an internationally respected astrologer and the author of 19 books on metaphysical topics.
She has been an astrologer for almost 40 years.
Her newest career direction is to lead writing seminars for those who wish to write about astrology, metaphysics or self-help subjects. See her summer offerings at www.moonmaven
publications.
com/writingseminars.html.
Donna Cunningham has a dual background in astrology and psychotherapy, with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and over 30 years experience as a professional astrologer. She considers doing the astrology charts of children to be a sacred trust. It is a way of knowing who these Indigo children are on their own terms rather than as their families, teachers, and society expect them to be.
In these sessions, she focuses on typical childhood concerns such as family and peer relationships, the best educational approaches, and the child's special gifts and abilities. She can be reached for consultations at (503)291-7891, by email, or at her web page. Ask about her special rate for children's charts.
Donna is also co-editor of Vibration and a frequent contributor. She has written fourteen books on astrology and other metaphysical topics, including her Flower Remedies Handbook. Astrologers who want to know the special considerations involved in doing children's charts can read the chapter on this topic in Donna's text, The Consulting Astrologer's Guidebook.
Listed in several Who’s Who volumes, she has given seminars on astrology around the world and won the prestigious Regulus Award at the 1998 UAC.
