Tarot: Gigi Miner's Ethyrial Tarot
Veritas
|
|
 |
by Gigi Miner |

Veritas is the Latin word for truth. It is also the name of my monthly newsletter. Why the name Veritas, you might ask. I have had one persistent focus in my life. Okay, I have had many foci in my life, but if I were to narrow it down to the essence of all of those pursuits, the thing for which I continually search is truth.
Now, truth is a conundrum. What might be truth for me is not necessarily truth for you. Then we are faced with the possibility that there may be absolute truths and that they stand right next to the various shades of grey. Thus, truth is an elusive critter, to say the least.

In case you have not guessed, our card this month is the Veritas card from the Ethyrial Tarot © deck. In a regular deck, this card would be Justice, in which we might see the classic woman standing blindfolded with the scales in hand. In this card, we see the scales tipped to one side. Upon the heavier scale is the word, Veritas. Note how the scales seem to blend into the background. True justice will seldom stand out from its environment. You may have noticed in your life that the times that you notice things are when they are not just or fair. Also, we see a sword as part of the card. The sword is distinguishable from the rest of the card. The sword of truth cuts both ways, making it a dangerous weapon. When we want the truth, we have to be willing to see it in ourselves. That is one of the most difficult things to do.
This year is coming to a close. What better time to take account of our lives than just before a new year begins? The holidays may have us socializing more than normal. This can lead us places that remind us just why it was that we did not like Aunt Lu or Cousin Tom. Sometimes those moments of dislike are glimpses into some truth that we can grab hold of and examine. So, rather than avoiding the people who most rub you the wrong way, why not consider it an opportunity to delve into the deeper recesses of our souls to pull out the “why” of such irritations.
Others of us may not have much family or friends with which to visit. For us, this time of being alone might usher in other feelings that can do much the same in terms of providing us food for thought. If we can take each moment in our lives as an opportunity to learn something, we may find that it becomes more of an adventure than a burden. For me, truth is a quest. I consider it to be like a giant puzzle and some mean kid came along and kicked the pieces all over the planet. Now the pieces of the puzzle are scattered and the only way to find out what the picture on the puzzle is, is to search out those pieces and put them back together. We do not have a cover for the box that divulges the whole picture. We have only those pieces to gather. Of course, one of the difficulties of this is that we run across other puzzle pieces that do not fit our puzzle. Here we have to try them out and see if they fit. Occasionally, we find one that nearly fits. We may hang onto that piece for ages before we realize that it is preventing us from adding the correct pieces to the puzzle. But, when we do finally toss that errant piece, we open up a myriad of things that we can add.
Our lives are much like this puzzle. Some things fit well for a long time, or so we think. Occasionally, someone else tells us that this piece is a perfect fit for us. Only we can say what will fit and what will not. Only we know for sure what our truth will be. Sometimes it takes us a while to figure it all out. In fact, I might hazard to guess that most of us will take this entire earthly journey to get just a few pieces of the puzzle in place.
What happens when we find our complete picture? What happens when all the truth is gathered together in one place? That is an intriguing question. Imagine all the people of the world coming together, each with their small piece to add. If ever we could join together all of those bits of truth, the possibilities would be staggering. What is enlightenment other than seeing “the truth”?
Let us look at our card again. What in your life is tipping your scales? It is normal to have things occasionally tip us out of balance. Money, work, family, they all have moments of taking more of us than normal. What I want you to think about is what your life’s quest is. Mine is the pursuit of truth. Perhaps yours is learning about healing. Maybe you have an affinity with plants and nature. We each have our gifts and obsessions, if you want to call them that. Something in our lives drives our focus more than the rest. It need not be something that outwardly seems to serve mankind. There is nothing wrong with something that drives us and only us. We cannot see how our ripples journey outward. Someone who loves macramé may only seem to be enjoying tying a bunch of knots in order to decorate their home, but when they share this talent with a child, they give that child a new skill and perhaps a love of their own.
Do not disregard something in your life because you think it unimportant. Each note in a melody may seem boring and unimportant by itself. Put the notes together in the right way, however, and you have a work of genius that can move the soul to tears.
Veritas has its own, unique message to give. For some of us our truth is to love our family. For others, we want to know the secrets of the universe. The only thing that is constant is that we need to seek out our own answers and implement them into our lives. This year is coming to a close. We have the chance to lay down the things that no longer serve us in preparation for something better coming into our lives. Rather than fight the process, let it flow. There is nothing wrong with saying good-bye to one thing in favor of something better.
Thank you to all of you who have shared this year with me by visiting The Meta Arts and reading my column. I hope that it has helped you find your own version of Veritas in your life.

Gigi Miner,
Tarot Consultant,
Author & Teacher

Gigi Miner is a minister, ordained by the Universal Life Church, and has a Doctorate of Motivation from the same.
“One of the greatest benefits of Tarot is being able to take control of your life rather then be a victim of it,” is the motto of this professional Tarot consultant, author, and teacher, from upstate New York.
Moonlighting as an adult education instructor, Gigi brings that experience into her Tarot and writing work, helping clients and readers to find their own inner wisdom. Gigi has taught classes on tarot in regular and e-formats.
Believing that "laughter is the best medicine,” there is often a lighter tone to her teachings. When conducting an adult-education class, one of the main questions she asks is, "Are you having fun?” If the answer is "yes" then she knows that her students are learning more then if she were teaching in a more traditional mode.
Gigi has written articles for various newsletters, including Tarot Celebrations, World Tarot Network, and Gateway to Tarot. She has released a book entitled, “Light-of-Day Tarot & Dream Work,” which is available at www.lulu.com/ladyfogg.
Her two novels, "Card Shark" & "The Fallen" are available at all online bookstores or by visiting:
