Healing & Alternative Health
Herbal Valentines
|
|

I formulated a love potion for my wedding and gave it out to everyone. Years later hundreds of people have taken it and it is a favorite among my family friends and students. I thought that this Valentines Day would be a good time to give the recipe to the world!
This Rose Love Potion can be taken with a loved one or you can use it to fall in love with yourself. Here in my herbal pharmacy we jut made one and half gallons of it. One of my apprentices was pretty excited after processing it all!
Rose Love Potion
One and a half cups glycerin
One half cup brandy
One quarter cup water
One half cup rose petals
One half cup damiana leaf
One eighth cup orange peel
One teaspoon cardamom
One teaspoon cinnamon
One teaspoon ginger
One teaspoon clove
Three dates
One vanilla bean
Glycerin can be purchased at any health food store. Use filtered water and buy some good brandy. Remove the pits from the dates, chop up the vanilla bean and mix everything together in the blender. Put all of the blended ingredients into a sterilized half gallon mason jar. Let it sit for two to three weeks in a cool dry cabinet. Shake it up every once in a while. Purchase some finely woven cotton muslin from the fabric store. Most new fabric is processed with chemicals so you need to wash it in the washing machine before you use it. Cut the cloth into about an eight by eight inch square piece. Put a medium sized kitchen funnel on top of another sterilized mason jar. Place the cloth over the funnel and then pour the herbal mixture through the cloth into the jar. Discard the herbs and fruit, and the strained out liquid is your love potion! The shelf life is one to two years. It is best to store it in a dark colored bottle or in a cool dark place.
You can take twenty to thirty drops directly from the bottle. You can add one half an ounce of Rose Love Potion to one cup of seltzer water and make a soda with it. You can add it to warm water and make a tea. You can pour an ounce over ice cream, put it in a smoothie or you can drizzle it on your body and use your imagination.
Valentines Day is a holiday that falls on a cross quarter time of the seasonal calendar. The four basic markings of the seasonal calendar are the two solstices and equinoxes. The cross quarter times are the days that fall in between a solstice and an equinox. Valentines Day is the half way mark between winter solstice and spring equinox.
Winter Solstice is the time during which we dream deeper to conceive ideas for the coming year. Many people make New Year’s resolutions around this time. At spring equinox we see the sprouts of those new ideas just as we see the plant world bringing forth new life. Half way between winter solstice and spring equinox is the time of firming up the intention of what is to manifest. It is a time to weed out what is not needed to provide more vitality for what has been planted. So it is a great time to re-commit to what has been intended for the year.
What better way to acknowledge life springing forth than with pleasure. Valentines Day is about love, pleasure and beauty, all of which help to quicken and expand whatever your intention is. Let your pleasure fuel your prayer.
