Spiritual Mastery for the 21st Century

Mighty Winds of Change

by Dr. Gwen MacGregor
“Like Mercury, the element of air is a messenger of greater things. It rules the mind, and brings with it knowledge, inspiration and the power to think in abstract detail...This is the power of air magic: to see beyond, to open our minds to the possibilities that lie hidden within us. It is also the element of justice. It is only when we are focused that we can truly decide what is right...”

Air Magic by Jennifer McDevitt

MWe have all witnessed the power of air while watching great storms wreak havoc upon the Earth, or in the winter, when our breath shows itself misty. The element of “air” is quite simply the first gift of God - the first breath. This powerful force of God and therefore, Mother Nature is often feared and misunderstood. As an element, it represents the thinking mind of the Creator. It is both abstract and yet flowing. It moves across the planet continually, seeding both our minds and bodies, bringing forth all sorts of weather patterns in its path. Today, as we find ourselves facing tornado and hurricane season once again, have we realized that the winds may be our very salvation and hope for changes across the globe in the future?

All esoteric thought revolves around the higher expression of divine thought made manifest on Earth in a continuing process of understanding or rejection of change. The great winds have often been relegated into the dominion of the archangels of the Four Directions: Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael. And as such, these winds represent the continuing force of God upon the Earth and the full Universe. These archangels are not your garden variety, fluffy-winged celestial messengers as much as they are the changing force of God’s Plan moving ceaselessly across our minds and hearts to effect change. I believe that the great winds, like everything else, began with the much celebrated “Big Bang.” The winds, whether they be trade or tornadic, keep the flow of God’s higher understanding moving continuously. Winds on Earth represent everything from relief from heat, to dispersing God’s wisdom to bringing rains, to supplying clean energy, etc. What if these winds are truly the “Breath of God?” And if that is so, why have so many of us stopped listening, stopped breathing fully and embraced fear instead of celebrating a power we can utilize to change our world?

We all like to talk about how you create your world through your thoughts and actions. But, what does that mean when you live in New Orleans and Katrina devastates your city or, if you live in desert-like Morocco and the great sandstorms dictate the arid, almost-unliveable landscape? Do we believe that the residents of New Orleans and the Sahara created their own disastrous living conditions? Like all things spiritual, we cannot jump to black or white decisions. Plus, everyone knows karma catches up to you eventually but, not soon enough to have caused the damage to most of New Orlean’s population, probably. In the case of desert regions, arid or non-creative thinking over many centuries can be a culprit. Why an individual chooses to be born into areas facing devastation or continuing desolation is usually for power reasons, atonement or growth. The winds compel us to move, change, restructure, flow, build again, explore and just keep on going. Mercury represents air in the Greek pantheon of Gods. He was a winged messenger with a quixotic sense of work ethic and all he touched were changed forever. Have you ever wondered why the Planet Mercury is closest to the Sun? It’s work must be pretty important to God, eh?

Now, let’s get back to tornado/hurricane season and how we can receive the big winds differently this year. Firstly, we need to get back into moderation in our minds and bodies. Moderation allows change to occur mostly, without negative devastation. I think people with the ability to change often find themselves near water, volcanoes, dust bowls, etc. Acceptance of change can be a good thing but, simply accepting such force is usually not very helpful to God, in itself. The wind carries new information, it can wipe slates clean and provide new paths or directions. Or, it can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. When a surfer paddles out to catch the next big wave, they are striving to roll with that wave, not be engulfed by the energy of the ocean. We can begin to create change by not only being cautious in windy weather, but, also wielding the power of intention to “steer” the winds into a more benign spin. That does not mean we can control the great energy of God as it brings forth sweeping change. A surfer does not try to defeat the ocean. They only wish to ride the power and be one with the force. During this threatening time of catastrophe, seed these endangered areas with your moderate thoughts, prayers and understanding. Yes, we can change the landscape of nature in all the best ways if we work from within.

The chaos of unlimited possibilities, the power of God to disseminate sweeping change and, our many thoughts all have one thing in common, POWER. Power has no negative or positive charge. It simply is. And, we can all wield some of the power for positive change when we get in balance with our emotions and activities within humanity. It takes a long time and a great deal of imbalance to create a hurricane like Katrina. The divine Mother/Father God saw the distortion of the wind being created long before our tempers and hatreds got a hold of it. But, the heavenly host and Creator learned long ago how to change the spin, if you will, of the destructive wind. It was decided that the destruction would bring the world together in empathy and mass helpfulness. New plans for the area were laid into that hurricane’s very core of power. The spin, while still destructive, laid new seeds for balance and hope in the future. We can assist that process now and every day of our lives by staying in balance, practicing random acts of kindness and being good to ourselves.

So, how do we spread our powerful affirmations over these winds? Simply by visualizing the winds bringing helpful rains, cleansing and yet, never having to strike land. Seek to send the hurricanes out into the Atlantic, away from critical shipping lanes. Visualize the white light of God taking over the winds within the storm and change the “thought patterns” within the messenger we call the tornado or hurricane. Those who face the destruction are in fear and cannot hold the line of love...but, we can. Let’s assist as we can and not only with relief funds and physical activity, afterwards. You and I provoke and create the winds of change. Why do the winds have to devastate? They do not. All our unbalanced thoughts and emotions can place this orb we call Earth into more physical devastation. We can turn the greenhouse gases off with visualization and clean up the oceans as well.

Many of my clients who come to me because they cannot handle change in their lives are familiar with positive affirmation, meditation or quite simply, the power of positive thinking. And yet, they still seek a magic wand to heal them, soothe them or simply allow them to escape the change without effort. Why is it easier to take an anti-depression medicine versus exercising your will of God in a 20-minute meditation every day? Why do we all seek individual power in ways that simply do not exist in eternity? I can’t answer for anyone else but, myself. The first thought of God, the very air we breathe is constantly being cleaned and used to send us new thoughts and wisdom, every summer/fall in the guise of thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes. I say, let us claim the power utilizing the teamwork of illuminated minds and hearts by, cleaning our own houses of God in preparation for this wonderful season of winds. Can you not visualize that wonderful scene from “The Wizard of Oz,” as the house slowly spins back down to Earth, and out of the tornado, and Dorothy opens the door to the more beautiful life before her? By accepting change and responsibility for her own actions and emotions, she finds a great adventure waiting for her as she discovers the Yellow Brick Road.

Just one last thought...air is but one of four great elements. Let us find our way back to moderation so we can enjoy all the power as it was meant to be manifested by our enlightened beings.

All the best,
