Spiritual Mastery for the 21st Century
Our Inner Radiance

“Back of all evolution there is an inner power, a manifestation of life, an Inner Radiance which pushes the unfoldment of all forms of life–from atoms to planets–on to their destined perfected manifestation.”

Many years ago I discovered a gem of a book concerning the evolvement of man into God-man called, “The Inner Radiance.” This delightful book by Harriette and Homer Curtiss was an incredible find and one that I attribute to the God within me. It seems that this pair of Christian mystics was part of a much larger society attempting to bring mankind into oneness through more metaphysical thinking and activity. They did much of their work between 1909 and 1935 - at a time when the world was at war, constantly. It was their belief that they were part of a vanguard heralding in the Age of Aquarius. Their publishing company was based right outside of Washington, D.C., in a neighborhood where I grew up, Chevy Chase, MD.
In many articles about their work, there is mention of a unifying philosophy held by many at that time (and today). I have put their beliefs in quotes below. I think you will find that the path we have inherited to global enlightenment was well laid down for all of us to follow:
“The Purpose of the League is: To establish unity and cooperation of thought and action among individuals and organizations throughout the world devoted to the Science of Mind and of Being, and to bring them, so far as possible, under one name and organization; to promote interest in and the practice of a true spiritual philosophy of life; to develop the highest self-culture through right thinking, as a means of bringing one's loftiest ideals into present realization; to stimulate faith in and the study of the highest nature of man, in its relation to health, happiness, and progress; to teach the universal Fatherhood and Motherhood of God and the all-inclusive Brotherhood of Man; that One Life is immanent in the universe, and is both Centre and Circumference of all things visible and invisible, and that the Intelligence is above all and in all; and that from this Infinite Life and Intelligence proceed all Light, Love and Truth. These simple statements are in their nature tentative, and imply no limitations or boundaries to future progress and growth, as larger measures of light and truth shall be revealed.''

Among those writing at the same time were: Rudolf Steiner, Karl Jung, Aldous Huxley, Arthur Ford and Albert Einstein. It is clear that many of us come by our heritage, here in the West, by birthright. Throughout the works of Harriette and Homer are references always to the Christ Power, not just references to Jesus but, to all those who have held and wielded that power. They see all of us as God-men and women. They reference the concept of the Mother-Father God frequently and always speak to the fact that we are spirit moving through form. They see the experience of being human as a tool for the God within and, see our failure to grow spiritually as a denial that we are spirit first and form, second. I must admit, I was blown away by their incredible spiritual intelligence and the volumes of information they wrote down, so meticulously. Even better, Homer equally shared his power with his very psychic wife at a time when women were not yet recognized as sources of their own God-power.
It is my belief that our generation needs to look back upon the intuitive historians of our time and for that matter, all time. I ran across a special prayer written by Harriette Curtiss in “Realms of the Living Dead,” which is so appropriate for our time:
“Beloved of Christ, keep your star shining bright, out through the darkness of Earth’s dreary night. “Mid toil and confusion of battle and strife, send your message of love. It is Life.”
It appears that 100 years of humanity’s growth has not altered so much the messages of our mystics? Homer adds his own take on our spiritual path in “The Inner Radiance,” by saying:
We are indeed Sons and Daughters of God...and, if children, then heirs; heirs of God...And the more we meditate upon Him and strive to express His divine qualities, the more He grows in His power to manifest them through us...”
Today we strive as never before to maintain a spiritual-earthly equilibrium. The idea of moderation in all things must seem as difficult today, as it did a century ago. Wars are still being waged. The innocent are still being sacrificed for our ignorance and the world is not at ONE, yet. Chapter after chapter of this remarkable tome has given me back a renewed sense of myself, my goals and my other-worldliness, which gives me hope and a good shove in the back. Now is the time for all of us to get on this very difficult magic carpet of energy which is manifesting at such a high level of speed that most of us cannot figure out if we are going or coming. We cannot afford to ask questions and act later. The time for doing so was years ago, is my best guess, so, stop complaining about the stress of the energy and get on board, now. This truly is the time where a line is drawn in the sand -- the ever-changing sands of time. If you stop to reflect logically, you are going to miss the train. When your teachers say, “When your waiting is full, the next teacher will come,” know they are referring to times such as these.
Homer refers to different groups of “God-conscious” people, all over the world, coming together to slowly enact change. He sees the Christ Power as a unifying spirit of God, which when manifested through each spiritual being, will light up God’s Kingdom forever in the lower realms.
It is their belief that Jesus is not returning to His form once again but, coming through each and every believer manifesting the light. I like the idea of being a compass point of light for God (whatever God you believe in!), and, thinking that I am a small part of God’s greater plan. I also like that every minute of my life I can utilize this higher power to manifest a better world. I would like to think that Jesus was a great teacher who believed in His students.’ And, in that divine belief He knew, as all good parents do, that children will grow up and take on the mantle of power.
I love that Homer and Harriette always end their books with suggested affirmations that can assist each of us in maintaining our own spiritual growth. I would like to leave you with a quote to lighten your life and send you on your Path to divinity:
“Prayer for Light -
Oh Christ Power! Light thou within my heart
The Flame of Divine Love and Wisdom,
That I may dwell forever in the radiance of Thy countenance
And rest in the Light of Thy Smile.”

Dr. Gwen G. MacGregor is a nationally recognized intuitive life coach and metaphysical teacher with clients in 37 states and 7 countries.
She is also a Certified Transpersonal Hypnotherapist with a thriving practice helping clients modify addictive thinking through spiritual, mental and magical means.

Dr. Gwen has also volunteered for the American Red Cross, and The Washington Home Hospice of Washington, D.C.
Dr. MacGregor is a regular contributor on radio stations in Washington, DC, Baltimore and Annapolis and has appeared as a guest on the "Art Bell Show." She has also appeared on "Inside Edition," "America's Most Wanted," and the New Age television series, "Strange Universe."
Known for her clear receptionand accurate spirit readings, she is often called upon to assist in locating missing children, and has consulted on Civil Defense Air and Sea Rescue Missions. Her work with angels and spiritual mastery led to a splendid article being written in The Washington Post.
She consults with medical doctors, acupuncturists, psychologists and chiropractors to assist in patient diagnosis. She has been teaching for Prince George's & Howard County, MD, Community Colleges,' Continuing Education Programs for over 10 years as well as conducting ongoing Master's Classes in Ascension Studies. Dr. MacGregor has a B.A. in Sociology (U of MD), an M.S. inSocial Work (U of MD), a Doctorate in Divinity (ULC-CA) and a ChT in Transpersonal Hypnotherapy (NATH).
Dr. MacGregor regularly takes her innovative approach to intuitivecounseling on the road presenting informative seminars at community centers, corporate board rooms, festivals and New Age Expos. Her individual spiritual consultations address issues such as personal health, success, loving relationships and self-empowerment techniques for corporations and individuals. She is a distinguished Reiki Master, and incorporates healing touch and esoteric ceremonial techniques into much of her work.
As a spiritual counselor and clairvoyant, Gwen G. MacGregor has dedicated the last 26 years of her life to promoting balanced spiritual and physical integration.
