Tell Me Something New?

by Rev. David Ault
Tia Elma's smile beamed at Gerardo. The two of them had not seen each other in well over ten years. As we sat in the bustling Mexican eatery where the final bottom tip of Texas blends into Matamoras, Mexico, I reverently observed the two holding hands and talking excitedly in Spanish.
Her eyes shined.

It was hard to tell whether the glow came from a deep sense of love within her well-lived soul, an excitement from seeing her long missed nephew or whether it was a side effect set off by the brightest pink knit cap interlaced with sequins I had ever witnessed. I'll say it was a beautiful melding of all the above and the shimmering, shiny colored cap set off by her stark white hair made Tia Elma the focal point of the entire restaurant.

As we sat, comfortably stuffed after a breakfast of Huevas Rancheros, she asked with precious sincerity, " Enseñame algo que no se." "Tell me something new - something I don't know."

It wasn't so much the heart to heart talk that followed that brought a smile to my soul but the idea that here, in her eighties, she was still eager and willing to learn.

I remember silently praying in that moment, "please let me be this way when I reach this age."

All too often as we age, our willingness to learn something new can become sidelined by the shutting down of our personal desire. We grow weary, perhaps jaded over the concept that life is and will always be one continual classroom. We may have thought that once we “got it”, we’d finally be able to stop all this seeking and learning.

But the enlightened life traveler understands that life is CREATIVE, thought is CREATIVE and thus our cellular construct is CREATIVE.

It is our inherent nature to seek and evolve. In other words, learning is forever a part of all our lives.

So why not embrace our evolution with the thought that everyday left on earth holds potential for extraordinary, sweet surprises?

Something within Tia Elma understood and desired to do just that. Even her challenges with walking, losing her driving privileges and still being a principal care-giver for another family member in their nineties, she felt that discovery was the key to longevity.

Discovery - the key to longevity.

Upon awakening do we ask ourselves, what discoveries will life present me? And are we open to them?

Metaphysician Ernest Holmes called it, being open at the top – our unencumbered willingness to learn, and nurture the seeker within.

Once we grasp the idea that being a seeker is natural, we can begin to let our divine nature step to the front and lead us on the adventurous long and winding road.

Tia Elma was a beautiful reminder that life will always produce sweet surprises on that road - much like a spiritual tree holds ripe and delicious fruit. But, we have to be willing to make the effort to walk to the tree, raise our hands to the heavens and take what it offers.

David Ault
Visionary Vocalist, Author & Motivational Speaker
David Ault is highly regarded as one of the finest visionary vocalists and motivational speakers within the New Thought/transformational movement.

His focus on remembering the Divine within and reclaiming that connection has empowered hundreds of thousands on their spiritual journey. The union of David’s charismatic message and heartfelt singing has elevated him to guest speaker of choice in many nationwide churches and global organizations.

As a licensed minister and practitioner through Religious Science International, as well as author, songwriter/recording artist, David has traveled and shared his gifts for well over fifteen years.

Working closely with notables Louise Hay and Marianne Williamson and sharing the stage with many cherished mentors ranging from the late Og Mandino to Dr. Barbara King, Jerald Jampolsky, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, Father Leo Booth and Mary Manin-Morrisey, David harvested that experience and developed his own unique style of teaching. His compassionate presence, warmth and humor continue to be an unforgettable guidepost for audiences as they rediscover and reawaken to their personal magnificence.

Starting out as a professional actor and singer, David worked extensively in Broadway tour shows, film and television winning critics awards in both New York and Los Angeles.

Throughout the 1980’s, David, along with the late Jerry Florence and Keith Kimberlin made their mark in New thought history by helping pioneer an unexplored musical genre—visionary vocal music. Known as Alliance, their remarkable blend became legendary, helping establish them as one of the most successful vocal groups in the Spiritual recording field.

David continues this musical path with the release of his critically acclaimed recordings, The Healing Bridge, Travelin’ With The Angels, All Is Calm, All Is Bright, And Then It Is Morning, all distributed through his Los Angeles based organization, The Conscious Company. Now, his highly anticipated literary debut, Where Regret Cannot Find Me, is heralded as “a fresh and exciting discovery in Spiritual literature ... a work of pure heart!”

“I feel extremely blessed and grateful in following this path”, says David. “It is my ongoing intention to create a message in word and music that assists us all in reawakening to our personal magnificence!”
