 |
by Raven |
|
|
Jet is the world’s first gem material used as a talisman since the Stone Age times to protect from “entities of darkness”. Jet is the hard variety of coal and may occur in red, yellow, brown, green, grayish-blue or any combination thereof. Jet is amorphous and not considered a crystal or mineral. Jet is a brown coal from driftwood and other seawater soaked organic material called Lignite.
Name:
The Ancient name for Jet originated from the Greek word “Gagates”. The Greeks claimed that the stone was first found in the fabled river Gagates in Lycia. The name Jet has evolved through the Latin word “gagete” into the old French word “jaiet”.

Scientific Properties:
Color: Black, dark-brown, brown-black
Hardness: 2 1/4 4
Crystal System: Amorphous
Chemical Composition: Compressed Lignite, mostly carbon
Fluorescence: None
Uses: Gemstone, ornamental stone
Source: Australia, France, Greece, Switzerland, United States and Worldwide
Associated Mineral: Amber
Historical Presence:
Paleolithic Caves in France and Switzerland found Jet ornaments
Pueblo Indians Ruins shaped and carved Jet with flint tools
1500 B.C. evidence of mining found in England
Greece Ancient Physician Galen searched for the fabled River Gagates in Asia Minor but failed. He reported small deposits of Jet in the eastern shore of the Dead Sea, and used fragments of jet as a cure for swelling of the knees.
2nd Century B.C. Nicander prescribed Jet smoke fumigation to remove the Black Death Plague, the use of the black stone was believe to cure the plague
Ancient Rome Pliny the Elder used fumes of burning jet to cure hysteria, epilepsy and acted as a test for virginity. It was also used to relieve toothaches in powdered form as a dentifrice mixed with wine.
Early Catholic Church used as material for crosses and rosaries effective to drive away bad dreams and hallucinations when prayers are recited on black rosaries. It was believed that the devil and his black angels brought about these maladies the black stone has powers in counteracting the spirits of darkness. In 654-680, saint Hilda, Abbess of the northeastern English monastery of Streoneshalh was known to use the Black Rosary. Later, the monastery became the Whitby Abbey and the Jet found nearby was known as Whitby Jet.
18th Century Jet material returned in popularity for use in religious articles
19th Century, early 20th Century Queen Victoria of England, wore the gem as a sign for her long continual mourning as a result it became a mourning jewelry favored as the “jewels of widows”
Middle Ages used to treat delusions, hallucinations, to diminish depression and has been used to dispel fearful thoughts. For Centuries it was powered and mixed with wax and prescribed to as a salve in the treatment of scrofula tuberculosis of the lymph system and joints.
Modern Practioner claims jet increases fertility and relieves problems with female reproductive organs.

Metaphysical Use and Properties:
JET
CHAKRA (S): Root/Base
VIBRATION: Number 8
ZODIAC: Capricorn
ATTRIBUTES:
It has been used as a talisman since Stone Age times, used in olden times to protect from "entities of darkness". Jet draws off negative energy and alleviates unreasonable fear. Jet is actually formed from fossilized wood but looks like coal. It is a stone of protection when worn around the neck. Those attracted to Jet are said to be "old souls". It can also be used to open to psychic experiences and to assist the quest for spiritual enlightenment. Jet jewelry was said to become part of the body of the wearer. This suggests that jet jewelry inherited or purchased should be cleansed with particular care and when used in healing should be thoroughly cleansed after each application. Jet is said to stabilize finances and protect businesses. It can be placed in the cash drawer or the wealth corner of the house. Jet promotes taking control of life and balances mood swings and alleviates depression. It cleanses the base chakra and stimulates the rise of kundalini force toward the crown chakra.
HEALING:
Jet treats migraines, epilepsy and colds. It diminishes glandular and lymphatic swellings and heals stomach pain. It was traditionally used for menstrual cramps.

Raven is a Pacific Islander born and raised in the Philippines. She has a degree in Bachelor of Science and Business Administration and attended two years of graduate school. Raven lives with her husband and son in Las Vegas, Nevada. She created an e-commerce business, Raven Crystals guided with love, intuition, and the spiritual magical energy of the Raven.
Raven is a Reiki Level 3 Practitioner and a student of Quantum Touch Healing. She channels Reiki Energy daily for distant healings and practices hands on healing several times a week.
Raven became interested in healing stones when she first became a student of Reiki. She was delighted with the beauty and qualities of the stones and decided she wanted to share them with friends and family. She began purchasing stones and studying the healing properties of each stone. Her desire grew and she wanted to provide unique, rare and hard to find items, as they were the most intriguing in shape and have such radiant colors along with their extraordinary energy and healing properties.
Raven has created an e-commerce business with the intention of sending Love, Light and Peace to everyone receiving Earth’s children from the mineral kingdom. She personally selects each specimen and provides an abundance of information about each crystal and mineral on display.
Raven has created several one of a kind new age products; Raven Energy Wands, the Antahkarana Grid with crystals and minerals and several display ideas found only at Raven Crystals.
