Sequins
|

I was dressed and ready to roll a suitcase out my bedroom door, when I hesitated, deciding I didn't like what I was wearing. I changed my shirt from a plain black tee to a sequined one that picked up the blue in my jeans. Standing before the mirror I giggled, thinking why is it so important to wear this sequined shirt for a three-hour drive to Detroit?
My intuitive inner voice said, "Because Esther would like that shirt." My inner logical voice said, "That's ridiculous, you aren't going to see Ester today. You could wear it tomorrow at the workshop where Esther will be speaking before hundreds of people. I smiled at my reflection in the mirror, deciding just to wear the shirt that seemed to leap out at me from its hanger in the closet. It just felt good to wear the shirt today, not tomorrow. So I did.
Having resolved my wardrobe dilemma, I drove to Detroit to attend an Art of Allowing Workshop with Esther and Jerry Hicks. Each time I hear Esther speak on an audio or videotape, my eyes moisten with tears of inspiration. It is not her message as much as it is her voice. Her voice feels good to me. It seems to emit a kind of frequency or amplitude that reaches inside and opens my heart like violins reaching for the sweetest notes on the scale.
Driving north, filtered light and shadow swept across Ohio's countryside, quieting my mind. The waning sunlight sent rays into the prisms of my sequins, splashing spots of colored rainbows all over the car dashboard. I smiled with wonder. I stopped at a rest area and while standing before the restroom air dryer rubbing my wet hands, the sun streamed through a window and found my shirt again. A woman paused from her exit and said, "You look like you are standing in the middle of a rainbow." I giggled in response.
Synchronicity
I found the Dearborn Doubletree Inn with no trouble and checked in. I pulled my car around back, parked, rolled my suitcase through a side doorway, and meandered over to the elevator. It was quiet and I felt suddenly alone in a large hotel. Just as the elevator doors closed, they popped open again and a blonde haired woman stood before me with that elevator- questioning look that asks, up or down? I said "Up!" and she smiled and stepped in. Right behind her a man and a woman joined us and I looked at them briefly and then looked down to the floor, showing good elevator etiquette.
For a mature couple, they laughed and played with each other like eager teenagers, which piqued my interest. The woman insisted that her purse belonged to her husband, making him hold it as they giggled together. Then the woman swung around and pointed at my chest, saying, "I like that shirt." I stared into Esther's eyes and smiled. Apparently, my intuitive hunch proved correct. Esther did like my sequined shirt.
We exited the elevator together and they entered their room, a few doors down the hall from mine. I unpacked and sat on my bed, pondering the meaning of the moment Esther and I shared. I marveled at all that needed to be in place for such a colliding moment to occur. It began with a silly irrational thought. An impulse I decided not to ignore, which blossomed into prisms of rainbow light that somehow connected with the preferences of a woman I do not know but decided to come and hear speak on a topic I love.
I learn time and again, that when I trust the flow of my intuitive guidance, the universe moves heaven and earth to align all of creation in order to show me that my life is a magical mystery tour. For me, things that don't make sense, when paired together, always seem to add up in the end.
