The process...is itself a healing process, partly because you have someone there who is taking the time to tell you a story that has great meaning to them. They’re taking the time to do this because your life could use some help...They want to give it to you in a form that becomes inseparable from your whole self. That’s what stories do. Stories differ from advice in that, once you get them (or live them), they become a fabric of your whole soul. That is why they heal you."

In the last 20 years, I have spent a great deal of time teaching children and adults ways to stay safe in their world. In showing them personal paths to empowerment, I utilized the power of mythology, storytelling and child psychology. I was deeply fortunate to find a man who had lived a virtuous path full of adventure who shared with me his vision of giving back every child and adult their own personal story to tell. He came from the perspective of law enforcement so, his words were often modeled around legal pictures and advice which often went over the heads of kids and their parents. Then one day, he turned his personal story into a grand knight’s tale and off he flew! We all need to turn our wisdom into a great story but, only after we have truly lived out lives. Never before have we so badly needed our storytellers to return and remind us to live our lives, fully.
The past few months have seen the advent of many earth changes, and prophets and politicians alike see this time we are moving into as a divide or change from the past. I have said for the past 5 years that The Sword has drawn the line in the sand (Iraq or the Middle East), now which side of the line will you be seen on? One side belongs to the Books of the Dead and the next, the creative forces of change for the living. We have all the advice of the past but, as Alice Walker reminded
us above, advice is cheap and not as moving as personal sagas and journeys accomplished. How are we to stay on this new path and not venture backwards as so many civilizations have done in the past? We re-write history by living our lives fully and then, living to tell our tales! All our tales!
Joseph Campbell took every opportunity in his lifetime to remind us how important tales of glory are to us as nations and individuals. Then there are great storytellers like Kenneth Clarke, Ken Burns and Spike Lee to take up the mantle for our nation and world. God was kind enough to give us the "illumination" of this time with a single word whispered into the ears of great authors like, Shakti Gawain, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer and many more. That word was, Intention. Intention implies action, dreams, visions, quests to go on...There is NO SECRET to the idea that we are all here to re-create and upgrade the Earth, if we understand that we are what myth and storytelling is all about. So, what do we desperately need to follow in order to get back on track with our own tale of glory?
We need to all get a life! You know, just because you identify with Indiana Jones doesn’t mean you get to emulate him in your life? And, when you kill terrorists playing computer games, it doesn’t mean you are the hero of any tale. Re-living old stories, desperately clinging to old music and living your life through technology does not create new tales to be told. Our minds are no longer feeding our hearts. This is why our children are growing increasingly bored, not only at school but, with their parents and other adult, so-called role models. This nation has taken the arts, imagination and recess, for the past 15 years, away from most of the new generation of kids. How do we create our own stories without art, music, books that we read (other than for homework!) in schools and also lose the ability to be heard?
This generation and those to come have different mountains to climb than we did. They are closer to The Voice at the top of the mountain than we were. The new frontier, where all heroes may distinguish themselves in the near future may be above the mind and come from accessing spirit ahead. I definitely believe that the chaos on Earth cannot be relieved any longer by thinking
logically. Nothing shows us this so compellingly as does this unpopular war and our inability to end it. I believe that God is tweaking our collective consciousness’ and asking us to pave a bright new path full of stories and challenges that will propel generations of kids to come. We must use our collective "intention" as well as our own personal beliefs to come to the aid of Earth, her children and our future. I for one am sick of watching teenagers today celebrate Woodstock like it was their own creation! It is up to the New Brotherhood to give them something to talk about!
So, how can you live a heroic life in this new age of spirit shaping form? Remember that thoughts are powerful things when motivated by your own spiritual foundation. Unite in groups of like-minded people with a central cause to do good. Doing good things can be as simple as re-planting forests after vicious forest-fires have rampaged over the wilderness. We never hear of those stories, do we? Or maybe, we can clean up what water we do have at our disposal? Water that we buy houses next to or vacation by or simply drive over every day on our way to work. We spend so much time bemoaning our fate and not enough time moving quickly and expeditiously into the future.
A new client came to me yesterday with stars in her eyes. She was all of 18 years of age and had just discovered meditation and opened an inner doorway. Her wonder and awe cleansed my sad mind and reminded me of how powerful I could be if I could attract one such as she...a bright, shining star. She is fast becoming one of my stories to tell. I know so many heroes. Heroes with great hearts, shining souls and grand tales to tell. But, stories must wait till the end of the day after we have walked for many miles doing good deeds. Let us upgrade our children’s education with spiritual, not only religious, stories and myths so that they can get the hang of this quest business. Heroes always have a bigger and better mountain to climb.
Give the music and arts back to schoolchildren. Let them run and play again so they stay healthy and can dream big dreams of a bright future. Remember, we are the stewards of this new generation and of our own hearts. I am always reminded of the picture of greed and close-mindedness that Tolkien created in Denethor, Steward of Gondor, father to Boromir and Faramir. Denethor forgot that there was a bigger picture playing out around him and into the future of generations to come. And when he discovered that he was about to be replaced by the rightful king, he wanted to destroy all that was good and just so that the real champion of Gondor would inherit a devastated kingdom. Sound familiar? Our kids need to dream, strive to paths of glory and inherit the Kingdom of God within all levels of being. It is the birthright of all of us but, many of our tales have been told by now.
Can we not open the coffers of our greedy little minds and egos and free up the fodder of dreams, art, love, freedom and stories of old to inspire our children to grow greater than we could ever be? Can we teach them to pull upon the spirit within as Steiner envisioned so long ago and can be seen today in his Waldorf Schools? The new tales are coming, and we, of inspired spiritual thought, may well be the deciders upon how these children’s stories shape the future for all of us. Get out of our way as we shape a more tolerant, wise society, oh you demons of greed, complacency and boredom!

Dr. Gwen G. MacGregor is a nationally recognized intuitive life coach and metaphysical teacher with clients in 37 states and 7 countries.

physical, mental and spiritual levels. She has worked with "Indigo"children for most of her adult life.
Dr. Gwen has also volunteered for the American Red Cross, and The Washington Home Hospice of Washington, D.C.
Dr. MacGregor is a regular contributor on radio stations in Washington, DC, Baltimore and Annapolis and has appeared as a guest on the "Art Bell Show." She has also appeared on "Inside Edition," "America's Most Wanted," and the New Age television series, "Strange Universe."
Known for her clear receptionand accurate spirit readings, she is often called upon to assist in locating missing children, and has consulted on Civil Defense Air and Sea Rescue Missions. Her work with angels and spiritual mastery led to a splendid article being written in The Washington Post.
She consults with medical doctors, acupuncturists, psychologists and chiropractors to assist in patient diagnosis. She has been teaching for Prince George's & Howard County, MD, Community Colleges,' Continuing Education Programs for over 10 years as well as conducting ongoing Master's Classes in Ascension Studies. Dr. MacGregor has a B.A. in Sociology (U of MD), an M.S. inSocial Work (U of MD), a Doctorate in Divinity (ULC-CA) and a ChT in Transpersonal Hypnotherapy (NATH).
Dr. MacGregor regularly takes her innovative approach to intuitivecounseling on the road presenting informative seminars at community centers, corporate board rooms, festivals and New Age Expos. Her individual spiritual consultations address issues such as personal health, success, loving relationships and self-empowerment techniques for corporations and individuals. She is a distinguished Reiki Master, and incorporates healing touch and esoteric ceremonial techniques into much of her work.
