Tarot: Gigi Miner's Ethyrial Tarot

It Ain’t Easy

by Gigi Miner
Fall begins its march to our doorsteps. I adore this time of the year. Each week that comes involves changes that I find beautiful and invigorating. Life mimics the seasons, so I find. Spring is chaotic and sometimes messy, much like youth. Summer is hot and full of activity, similar to our child-rearing years. Fall is calmer and much more pleasant, in my own humble opinion. There is a beauty that comes from experience and age that cannot be appreciated or understood until you are there.

Our card this month is the Page of Wands from the Ethyrial Tarot ©. We see a young cat asleep, wand in paws. Wands herald the spirit. They are energy and fire. It would seem that our little feline has burned his wand on both ends and now tries to regain some of that energy. Pages in the tarot usually speak of learning. They can also be messengers. The two to me go hand in hand. When we have a lesson to learn, there is a message attached. Our little Page is not out in the clear. The darkness that surrounds him is not anything ominous. It is simply that his sight is limited at his young age. Lessons come to illuminate us. In spite of our age, even as we are in the autumns of our lives, there will be plenty of times when we are just a Page. We cannot see the way before us. Life becomes less simple instead of more so. It ain’t easy.

Given that our Page is holding a wand, his lesson is likely to be of a spiritual nature. Spiritual lessons are amongst the hardest to learn. We learn quickly not to touch a hot stove. It does not take us too much to understand the concept of braking too quickly on an icy road. However, put a spiritual conundrum before us and all bets are off. I saw a bumper sticker that said, “Oh no, not another learning experience”. That seems to sum up this area of our lives. When life decides to grace us with a spiritual lesson, the moans are audible. Still, if we are to be complete beings, we need to embrace such moments for the lessons that they contain. Once we cross through to the other side, usually, it is well worth the trip.

Let us look at our Page of Wands once again. Is he sleeping because he is exhausted from his lessons or does he sleep to avoid them? This is a question that we all should ask ourselves from time to time. It is not an easy thing to walk a spiritual path. It is even less easy when you choose to do it “right”. I do not like that word, “right”. It has too many connotations to it that do not fit well with the spiritual walk. Still, the limited human language leaves us to read between the lines in many cases. This Page’s wand is not shining well. Is it burnout or apathy? Only he can know for sure. Pages are notorious for moving too fast and too far. Add wands to the picture and you have the epitome of a leaper who does not look first. Youth can be the culprit. When our Page shows up with a mature adult, then perhaps the lessons have not yet been learned.

No matter how old, everyone still has lessons to be learned. In fact, the older that I get, the more that I realize that I do not know nearly as much as I did during the previous year. There is a plethora of individuals out there who have it all figured out. They can tell you what you need to do to get rich, be more beautiful, alter the energies of the entire planet, and so forth. What I have found is that just because something might work (and I say “might” for a reason) for someone else does not mean that it will work for you. Each person has to learn his or her own lessons in his or her own way. Think of it as spiritual fingerprints. Mine will not match yours and visa versa. I can tell you my experiences. I can offer guidance using the means by which I have found help. Still, when it comes down to it, you, and only you can decide what is best for you. All of the experts that tout the perfections of their methods are doing one thing; taking your money.

Many human beings are waking up to the fact that there is a spiritual life to be lived. Something in the air is telling us that change is coming and we, too, must change. This awakening has many people looking for answers wherever they can find them. If you are new to the spiritual arena then it is natural that you have no clue how things work. Just as in any pursuit, until you have some experience under your belt, you are likely to believe anything that comes your way simply because you are open and willing to find some truth. This is when you are at your most vulnerable, much like our Page.

Seeking a spiritual life is admirable. In fact, it is natural as we are spiritual beings and not having that part of our life leaves us incomplete. The fact remains, it is essential that we not believe everything that we hear. Each piece of information needs to be examined in your own light. From there, you can decide if it is something with which you feel comfortable. Just because someone is a good salesperson does not mean that you have to buy what they are selling.

Our Page of Wands is sleeping. No doubt, he needs the rest. There is so much information out there that it becomes so very difficult to distinguish truth from baloney. The resting, the pulling away from the world for a while is essential to finding the balance that we need in order to discern truth from fiction. The Page of Wands wants us to learn. He wants us to hear the message that he brings. However, he also wants us to gain some spiritual maturity before we commit ourselves to a belief system that may prove more harmful for us than beneficial.

As we step into autumn, perhaps as we watch the change of seasons, we can remember to look before we leap. A spiritual thirst is a good thing. Sadly, not all spiritual doctrines are equally as good. There is nothing wrong with questioning. Anything worth your time and effort will stand up to the deepest scrutiny. Let nature teach you. Nature never lies. Fall is coming and the animals and plants will begin to show signs of the approaching changes. In the spirit, you may be feeling an autumn approaching. Do no move in fear. Move in knowledge. Allow yourself time to learn and to understand. Fear is a prison. Knowledge and understanding give you the keys. No, it ain’t easy…but if you are patient with yourself and allow things to progress naturally, you may find that it ain’t so difficult either.

Tarot Consultant,
Author & Teacher

Gigi Miner is a minister, ordained by the Universal Life Church, and has a Doctorate of Motivation from the same.

“One of the greatest benefits of Tarot is being able to take control of your life rather then be a victim of it,” is the motto of this professional Tarot consultant, author, and teacher, from upstate New York.

Moonlighting as an adult education instructor, Gigi brings that experience into her Tarot and writing work, helping clients and readers to find their own inner wisdom. Gigi has taught classes on tarot in regular and e-formats.

Believing that "laughter is the best medicine,” there is often a lighter tone to her teachings. When conducting an adult-education class, one of the main questions she asks is, "Are you having fun?” If the answer is "yes" then she knows that her students are learning more then if she were teaching in a more traditional mode.

Gigi has written articles for various newsletters, including Tarot Celebrations, World Tarot Network, and Gateway to Tarot. She has released a book entitled, “Light-of-Day Tarot & Dream Work,” which is available at www.lulu.com/ladyfogg.

Her two novels, "Card Shark" & "The Fallen" are available at all online bookstores or by visiting:
