Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily Life is….

by Shaun Brown
Sight From The Inside Out ~The Grey Matter

I am an audiovisual person. I process information by looking at a picture or listening to the content of a CD. Processing information through my eyes and ears, instead of reading text is how my brain is wired. Such as, looking at the picture of an apple is more acceptable to the way I receive information than reading each letter, that forms the word apple, that then, when read, represents the picture of an apple.

This sight is a common right brain characteristic, or creative thinker distinction from a left-brain. I would rather see a picture than read text. So I don’t read books much, I look for the answers in the short and sweet versions. CD’s and photographs if possible are always preferred. I have bought several hi-tech products and I find that they have one big instruction sheet with pictures and few words, for assemblage, and then they have the thick little notebook with all of the wordage details for the readers. They meet the needs of left and right brain people when it comes to explaining how their product works, very smart~ If you happen to be left and right brain that’s a bonus!

Regardless of your proclivities your view of the world is the way your grey matter perceives molecular vibrations. The Hindus say that everything you see in front of your eyes is a dream, an illusion. These images are a projection of reflected vibrations stemming from what you are thinking. When you close your eyes this dream disappears and all that is left is the entire Universe tucked inside of you. There in lies the field of possibilities~as Deepak Chopra puts it.

When you change your thinking you change the outside pictures of your world. You are the director of your movies so to speak. Remember when you were little you were taught the rhyme: Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream? What dream or vision on the inside are you projecting as your outside world? It’s your dream.

Meditation is the invitation and introduction to that infinite Universe already contained in you. I realize that when I talk about the business of daily meditation I am speaking to the choir. But like a mindful parrot, I cannot help but continue to repeat what I have learned and hope my thoughts bring about options to good change in others. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel and life as a creative type doesn’t have to be a struggle. It also doesn’t hurt to have the support, love and guidance from an elder. Ask me how I know?

So here is my repetition of guarantee that if you do the dance of morning meditation it will change your life for the better. Force yourself to try this following exercise for one month. If joy and balance are too much to handle remember that your misery will always be gladly refunded. There are no victims only volunteers in your dream. That can be good news because it means that you can take responsibility for the wonderful things that appear in your world by moving the not so wonderful illusions aside.
Get Centered~ Remember Who You Are

Following are tips I have learned to change my dreams:

One of the most common pitfalls made is not being grounded, to feel off balance. One of the hardest questions I can ask you is, “Do you have a higher Power in your life?” In other words do you feel connected to a source of unlimited energy that you can tap into for infinite guidance, anchor and support? If you are not connected to any sort of Supreme Force, you’re in the game alone. When you have no place to give your problems to they stay within and pretty soon you are holding the weight of the world all by yourself. I don’t think that was the intended plan. Especially since the entire Universe resides within in us. That would mean that we are separated from ourselves right?

Here are simple instructions for getting connected.

Create a sacred space. This will be your sacred place to connect with a Higher Source in the morning or when ever you need to get back to center. It can be just a small table, or as elaborate as you like. I keep my “prayer station” very simple. A white candle, some of my favorite incense (never synthetic), and a few icons of Higher Power symbols that resonate with me and give me focus. If you live with others, let them know that you are creating a special place for yourself to go and be quiet. If this concept is a problem or is not taken seriously with the people in your life, ask yourself why they are in your life? The exception, of course, being your children, don’t get rid of them! Actually when you come from a centered, genuine place, letting them know your intentions to be quiet and meditate or at least not to knock when you are in “special time,” can spill over into there lives as a habit and give them permission to have their own sacred space and quite time. Hmmm.

Upon awakening (within the first hour) go to your prayer station, light the candle and incense (optional) and set an intent that you would like to connect with Universal Power. You are always safe and secure when you set the intent to connect with the Light. Spend some time slowly breathing in and out. Imagine that as you breathe in, your feet are connected to Mother Earth, and as you breathe out, the top of your head is connected to The Heavens. With eyes closed imagine energy coming through the soles of your feet from Mother Earth filling your whole body up to the top of your head, and as you exhale see the top of your head opening up, like a crown, receiving energy that flows down from the Heavens filling your body to the soles of your feet. Watch that energy continue down into the Mother Earth~ she willingly dissolves it for you. Sit with this exercise. Breathe this vision in and out slowly. It only takes a few breaths in this manner every morning to start. After you’re still, a simple prayer of, “God direct me in this day” is good. Oh, and by the way, the greatest prayer that could ever leave your lips is: “Thank You.”

Have a notebook in front of you so that when your busy head says, “Buy cat food, call John, do laundry,” put these thoughts to paper and it will start to s-l-o-w your brain down. This allows you to continue with the meditation without the urgency of ego wanting you to stop meditating. The ego likes to be in control.

So basically you’re setting the intent to s-l-o-w down your brain. As you do this every day it will become easier and easier and you will become easier and easier. When you are finished with your 5-20 minute meditation you will have a list of things already written down to do! I have been practicing this simple meditation since 1992 and I still use a notebook every morning. The ego just never goes away, BUT it can be trained to sit on the sidelines and give my Inner Self time with my Soul’s purpose before it takes me into my day of service.
And Then There’s The Controlling Expectations Part
When you begin the journey of letting go, and letting the Universe take charge of your Life, you might notice some changes happening. Anything that will stand in the way of you being on your path will fall away. This can be good or bad news depending on how much your ego is invested in the need to control the outcome.

The falling away could be a relationship, location, job, or attitude. Instinctively, we all know that when we ask for Guidance it will come. Listening and doing the suggested gut feeling footwork is another matter. That is why most people say they don’t have time to meditate and don’t usually ask for guidance unless it is the guidance they want to hear. If you have time to breath you have time to meditate. I am not trying to seem like your parent but I do reach the urgency of a co-dependent when it comes to wishing someone their wellbeing. Although you know the adage you can lead a horse to water and so on.

When you receive guidance, but already have a personal agenda, the reply to the Universe is, “Ok, God that’s not the answer I wanted,” and then proceed to do it your way. When your need to control the outcome is so great, the end game usually winds up a mess and you wonder how you got there one more time. Ask for Guidance and then pay attention. Life is a never-ending upward spiral of choosing dreams that transport us towards the Light~ or not. Regardless of what is going on in the dream it is our birthright to eventually become the Light. Even if we go kicking and screaming, we are all entitled to be happy joyous and free.

A Poem

Pain Can Get Your Attention

In my deep sobbing I reached a place where it would have been ok if my heart had stopped. The feelings were so intense. I am grieving the loss of what I thought the outcome was going to look like, I am having an ego death-again.

Working through this pain instead of finding a distraction, forces me to get on the road I am meant to be on, I hate that there are no guarantees and I have to wait to see the outcome and maybe I won’t ever see the answer. My faith that I am where I am supposed to be is strong. I have nothing else in which to cling on to. I can’t drink or conveniently blame others as a distraction for where I perceive my life should be instead of where it is in the now. I am grateful for the connection and guidance, I don’t like not having guarantees. Eventually the “ah ha’s” usually come and I am again humbled and look back at the arrogance of my Spiritual hissy fit.

For right now I am tormented~ this too shall pass.

Until next time~
