2008: A Year of New Beginnings

The year 2008 is a Number 1 year in Pythagorian numerology. The number 1 heralds new beginnings. It is also a very strong success number, possessing the power for you to stand alone with confidence and conviction. For those on a spiritual path, it is the start of a new initiatory process, a move into a whole new dimension of yourself, with profound changes you will experience from within. Often, this will mean you begin losing interest in much of what used to compel you. Or even worse, you might start to feel “shadowy” and very much aware of your negative side or shortcomings. And along with this uncomfortable set of qualities, there is a longing for some new way to live, or some urgent need within you to express your truer nature. Spurred on by the Laws (or Lords) of Evolution, you are literally stepping upon a new and wider floor of your inner mansion of Selfhood, being called to become more of who you truly are. This is the year when you’ll be able to disentangle Spirit from matter and stand aside to review y our patterns from a distance so you can see the thread of meaning in all your events. This will lead to an integral insight that will enable you to move on through to your next station along your evolutionary path of awakening. You will realize your identity as a spiritual being encased in physical matter, here to learn how to be human. This shift in identity is transformational in itself!
The number 2008 becomes the Number 10 (by adding the 2 and the 8), which is the 1 plus a 0. Pythagoras worked with the single digit numbers 1 through 9 only. The 0 simply lifts the Number 1 qualities up to a higher octave, enhancing their effectiveness. The Number 10 is the number of Destiny, ruled by the planet Jupiter. It’s symbol is the Wheel of Fortune that stands for the cosmic Law of Cycles, the very essence of movement itself that reminds us that everything is constantly changing. This ever so positive number represents the whole circle of life. The number 10 also stands for synthesis, capable of bringing together aspects of your life that were heretofore un-integrated or in some kind of disharmony. It’s all about regeneration. This will be a year when you can discover through our own experience -- and then with solid conviction -- that after every death there is always a new birth.
Learning to cooperate with the natural Law of Cycles helps us accept our earthly condition while simultaneously feeling connected to the greater cycles that rule the universe. The quality of Number 10 reminds us that the temporal and the eternal are in constant relationship. There will always be the stability of a fixed center while the periphery of the Wheel of Destiny widens and narrows, as our daily lives will reveal. The center is the eternal, and the periphery is humankind’s temporal and often erratic existence that ebbs and flows as our life situations are created and mis-created as we move through time. Sometimes you’ll be in a closing down phase, where something is ending. And this can be scary. Or conversely, you may be experiencing a widening or expansion of your life in some amazing new way, but which can also bring about much uncertainty and fear. Embodying the energy of the Number 10 eases us into more acceptance of the paradoxes of life, more able to see that all has a sacred purpose, even the hard parts. In a 10 year, we’re encouraged to shift our consciousness from ego-dominance to soul-dominance, where we will note many interesting turn-arounds in our thinking. This is a year when we can more easily bring order out of chaos, so it provides a great opportunity for those of you who may be struggling with a life fraught with dysfunction or unhappiness. It is the “turning of the wheel,” with much enhancement of inner strength inviting you to move on.
Now, in support of this particular Number 10, the numbers 2 and 8 (from the year 2008) are at play in our consciousness. The number 2 is endowed with the energy of the Divine Feminine Principle, which urges us to turn inward to connect with our innate wisdom and intuition. Number 2 holds the deepest secrets of esotericism reflected in “the voice of the Silence:” You just know. And you learn to trust that. Number 8 in numerology stands for the Cosmic Law “As above, so below,” and carries the strength of fact that the higher Self is always in command of our lower nature. Even when you feel at the mercy of your lower “needy” nature, please know that you’re living in illusion. You can always rise above it because you are your Higher Self!
So enjoy this cosmic time of numinous support in your personal life, and may High Magic follow you throughout the year! May this new year be filled with a deep sense of fulfillment for you and for all those you love. JACQUELYN SMALL, LMSW, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in human psychology and clinical social work. She is a licensed non-denominational minister and a licensed psychotherapist who works with both spiritual and psychological concerns.

She has a long history in addiction counselor training, consulting and counseling, and trains all kinds of health professionals in the emerging field of spiritual psychology. She is one of the teachers who has been selected by Unity Church for their national TV ministry. She served as the Director of Training for the Texas Commission on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for nine years, and served on the adjunct faculty of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Stanford, California for four years.
Jacquelyn has authored eight books about soul-based psychology and the process of personal transformation, some of which have become classics in the counseling and consciousness fields.
